Summary: Hope this is better than Nero OEM
Review: Got Nero OEM version with a DVD R/W drive. Funny thing though, the software is incapable of copying DVD-Video - meaning it can't backup a homemade DVD. It can save data and some type of AVI/MPEG movies to DVD I think, but not author them or duplicate them.

Worst of all, when the drive jumper setting was mis-set and I accidentally left the disk in and rebooted, it locked up my system and I could not even get to the welcome screen in XP. Had to use an old startup mode to get in. After "fixing" everything, it still locked up the program Start button (program list never rose up...).

Round filed it.

I have the Nero Express CD burning software that came with my TDK drive. It operates normally, but of course, does not "do" DVDs.

Got Roxio MC 7, which is only slightly better - it is somewhat clunky, and it reboots my 'puter when I simply try to print a jewel case label - though that was fixed with a 120MB (!) "patch".

Bummers.

Summary: Best in Class
Review: Have been using Nero for over two years. Never had a problem with it. It is some of the easiest software of any type to use. Love the free and regular updates. Briefly tried Roxio. There is no comparison. Nero is well worth the money.

Summary: BEWARE of Stupid Installation Program
Review: I purchased the software after reading many good reviews about this. But after I began to install it, I found that the installer an evil program. It deliberately reduces the speed of my DVDROM to probably 2x. What's more, my DVD Rom (Philips DVD 8631) vibrated so hard that my machine began to tremble. It took 10 minutes or more for it to finish, during which I was worrying that the life time of my DVD Rom must have been significantly reduced. I now understand another reivew mentioning the installation problem. This is probably due to some anti-piracy trick used by NERO. But the trick is rather STUPID, if not EVIL. If your CD/DVD Rom's warranty has expired, think twice before you buy this.

Summary: All in one IS the best way to describe this!
Review: I think it's an excellent software for burning CDs and DVDs. I enjoy using all the applications and Nero StartSmart chooses which application would work best for me automatically. Very user friendly and fun to use!

Summary: Extremely unprofessional
Review: I'm trying to copy my own DV's from my camera, but my copy of Roxio insists on treating its users like weenies and won't allow me to simply copy the simulated DVD files direct to DVD.

I decided to check Nero before buying another program I can't use, but the demo's simply give me a message saying "Your demo has expired". I have never used Nero, never loaded it on my PC, and am really disappointed. I have deleted the demos, run Nero's cleanup tools (and a few of my own), rebooted my PC numerous times, and sent them email telling them of the problem. Apparently, they're not very interested in selling this to anyone. I've been trying to sort this problem out for five days and now I've just given up. Good luck to anyone who buys it.

Summary: The only one that always works... regardless of warts !
Review: I've tried a dozen or so burning packages, including Roxio (they scare me), Intervideo, Pinnacle (they also scare me), DVD Express, and several others. Nero is the only one that I can actually use, and doesn't make we want to scream from excrutiating pain.

Nope, its not perfect, but boy it sure is the best in class. I can sit down, and make a DVD or CD without spending hours trying to figure out what the software designers were thinking. With Roxio or Pinnacle, I have NO idea how to get a DVD done. And those 2 companies spend more time trying to sell me stuff than helping me use their products.

Yup, Nero, after many years of working on their software, has finally gotten to be best in class. Its the only one that you can install, get to work, and use almost immediately.

I also find it funny how almost ALL of the bad reviews here are by folks who have trouble with the Free or Demo versions. While I too, find problematic demo software frustrating, Nero probably does a better job than most of giving people a pretty good idea of their software with free product. But they do have a right to limit functionality of demo software, as they are trying to earn a living from the product.

But hey, I'm just one guy. All I know is that all the other titles I've mentioned just plain stink at being usable. Lots of neat features that I simply cannot use. With Nero, the features are their, and the basic product just works.

Summary: Be prepared to lose media
Review: Nero makes beautiful CDs and the few times I could get it to make a dvd the results were ok. Unfortunately, I've only gotten Nero to make about 3 movie dvds and 5 data dvds in the 6 weeks that I've had it. I've lost about 75 DVD-R disks trying to back up my data.

Apparently Nero has a bug that makes it hang or freeze when writing DVDs. More astonishingly, this is a problem that is well known to almost all Nero users. I have spoken to almost 150 people in the past 6 weeks, and they all agree that Nero has almost no functionality for making DVDs. I wish someone had told me that when I bought it, because I've returned 5 DVD burners to the store thinking that the hardware was defective.

The worst part is that since Nero has cornered the market, few programs have tried to duplicate the features of Nero, so I'm still searching for a piece of software that will make my DVD burner do what it's supposed to do.

Thank you Nero, you've made a $150 dvd burner nearly useless!

Summary: Nero just plain and simple rocks!
Review: Nero version 6 ultra edition is a complete package. It is amazing. It does everything but cook you breakfast ahead software is a classic example of a good company. I've had Nero version 6 for more than a year. I gotta when it first came out, and they have constantly and consistently added upgrades every few weeks free to download. What's nice is they don't have you pay for version 6 .5. Like most companies do.

Nero burning ROM is just a very intricate CD burning program.
Nero vision express is a very basic video editor, but it does the job. The one thing I like about Nero vision express is that it allows me to import replay TV, video files, render them and then I can edit them and Premier Pro.

When you buy this product you buying software that will be consistently upgraded and you won't be nickel and dime. I recommended.

Have fun and get it done

Summary: POTENTIAL BUYERS AND USERS BEWARE!!!
Review: READ ALL THIS PLEASE - Also here's a link for more of what you can expect ( http://club.cdfreaks.com/lite/f-48.html )

NEW or POTENTIAL BUYERS BEWARE!
Included is a copy of the "E" I sent to the Nero sales dept today after finally getting to talk to a tech about my problem with Nero freezing while trying to burn an .avi video file. (program always stops responding at about 60%) My motherboard, my bios, processor, sound and video cards are all new and up to date with plenty of memory etc.. Also you should know that to talk to a tech you are required to give your credit card information 1st and the cost to talk to someone is ? $1.29 a minute! Regardless of the outcome. You should also know that the "fix" the tech suggested was a 3rd party freeware software program used to reformat the video file that adds 1-2 hours before recording and is not Windows XP compatible. He was very rude, talked over me and when I tried to suggest more was wrong with the software (software didn't recognize the DVD-RW as 4+ gigs, but instead read it at 700Mb) He cut me off in the middle of a sentence and put me back on hold - where I had been for 45min. prior!!! So this is what I wrote to the sales dept. - NEW or POTENTIAL BUYERS BEWARE!

After hours of trying to get thru to the Ahead Software Tech staff and giving pre-authorized funds with my credit card to do so, I found the tech very un-helpful with his advice and rudely speaking over me ending with being put back on hold right in the middle a of sentence? I never raised my voice to him nor did I try to speak over him while he spoke over me. I find it hard to believe that a software company as large as Ahead/Nero has absolutely no control over their employees and leaves no recourse for the consumer (the people that help put them where they are today) such as a link and/or phone number to report such incidences. I have immediately put a dispute in for charges I may incur and would never consider paying for a representative of a company like Ahead/Nero to treat their customers in such a manner. I'm sending this "E" in trust that it makes it to the right desk and expect I get a reply in a timely manner.

P.S. - If anyone else has had simular problems I would love to hear about them as I am not done with them yet. I plan to take this as far as need be to have something changed!

Summary: Does NOT burn MP3 files
Review: The Amazon description is misleading. You CANNOT burn unlimited MP3 files with this version - you are limited to 30 mp3 files total with a "demo" license. To burn (mp3 encode) unlimited mp3 files you must purchase the mp3pro plugin from Nero ($35 for the CD). So, this is not really an all-in-one software solution for multimedia files.
