Summary: Unobtrusive yet comprehensive
Review: This program truly is the king of Anti-virus software. It's auto-protect feature, which automatically scans files downloaded from the internet and copied from a CD or floppy really makes me feel secure. The automatic virus-definition updater also ensures that you have the maximum possible protection. All of this without my having to think about it: it's just always there and always working.

Summary: Seems to work smoothly, hands free operation
Review: While I have no evidence of the effectiveness of this product at flagging virii or trojans, it did seem to work smoothly. The one aspect that made it more comfortable for me, compared to McAffee was that it was very unobtrusive. It doesn't bug you, and everything is completly hidden from view. It didn't appear to hog resources too badly, however I'm running a 2GB intel4 with 256MB of RAM.

The auto-update feature didn't seem to work at times, but I usually update manually at regular intervals anyway. The update process was smooth without having to sit and cross your fingers and hope that it didn't lock up your entire system, as was the case with McAffee.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition and it seems to integrate seamlessly with the OS.

Again, I have no means of knowing how effective this program is at detecting and eliminating virii, but it does work smoothly with few if any bugs.

Summary: Not compatible with Win 98
Review: While Symantec states that Norton Anti Virus 2002 Pro is compatible with Windows 98, I am here to tell you... NOT! It also has some problems working with the Zone Alarm firewall. I had to completely reload Win 98 three times (to include reformatting my hard drive twice) and still could not get the software to work. I tried to resolve the timing conflicts in they system files its install created, registry fixes, loading in safe mode... you name it, I tried it. I consider myself a competent Windows user and I'm stumped. Symantec support could not make this software useable. The tips they passed did not resolve the problem. Instead of "effortlessly protecting my system" NAV 2002 Pro turned into 10+ hours of formatting and reloading my system.
