Summary: Kaspersky is the BEST
Review: Although not the best at marketing, Kaspersky has consistently won awards and accolades from computer magazines and programmers as the best antiviral product available commercially (see their website). It has repeatedly beaten, or at least did as well as, better-known antiviral products in the past, and is one of the most popular antiviral products in Europe. I usually have more than one antiviral program on my computer, and while I have had my Kaspersky scanner pick up some viral and other nasties that the other scanner failed to detect, I have never had any of the other major scanners detect something that the Kaspersky software did not. It is very good at catching UNKNOWN bugs.

I have used antiviral products from virtually ALL of the major software companies that make them - McAfee, Symmantec, and Computer Associates, but in my opinion, the Kaspersky Personal Anti-viral Pro Kit (a "deluxe" version of the one sold here) is better than all of them by far.

All of the other "security" or antiviral software I have used seemed far more adept at taking over my PC, limiting my choices on how to use the software, crashing my computer should I dare use a competitor's software while theirs was on-board, and sucking-up the system's resources. Kaspersky allows you to "turn-off" and customize their software. My computer runs at 84% system resource use with their program off.

Summary: Average interface but the best in catching
Review: Hi,

Although this antivirus has not really user friendly unterface it works perfect! Found and deleted the most recent virus Mydoom, that kept my ports open.

Simple in new virus definitions update (and free) that are now being released every 3-4 hours. So I'm sure I have the latest virus protection.

Definately I'll continue using it.

Summary: Slows down performance considerably
Review: I switched to Kaspersky Antivirus (KAV) from Norton Antivirus (NAV) after seeing several tests indicating that Kaspersky is the best and most rigorous virus hunter out there.

I have used KAV for almost a year now and I must say I'm very disappointed. It is extremely slow and makes my computer (a Celeron 1.1 GHz, 512 MB) very frustrating to work with. For example: just opening the Windows Start menu triggers KAV, which then steals about 99% of CPU power, and so it may take 20-30 seconds just to select the application I want to start. Of course the application start-up process is also slowed down by KAV adding even more to the delay and frustration.

I also have a problem with KAV detecting virii that it doesn't do anything about. I can see in the log files that KAV has detected a virus, but on the row below it says "disinfection failed" or something like that. An antivirus program that finds lots of virii but doesn't do anything about them is not so useful, in my opition.

I'm going to switch to a different antivirus program now, but I don't know which. McAfee also have high detection rates in the tests I have seen, but my girlfriend has McAfee and on her computer it displays annoying ad-popups!! That's one thing you DON'T want your antivirus program to do...

I gave up Norton AV because it let the Slammer worm infect my computer even with the most up-to-date definition files. Perhaps I should have been more forgiving and give Norton a second chance? We'll see...

Summary: It's good, but not the best, and we all want the best
Review: I've had KAV installed on my system...and it did a pretty good job, but how about the performance of my computer? It was eating too much resources; Norton & McAfee what is it so good about them, excepting its graphical interface ?
Well, here's a tip for those who like KAV: DON"T INSTALL the CENTRE, this will do OK about systeme resources.
But there a better alternative: DR.Web Anti--Virus and it's made in Rusia, also. That's the best antivirus, I really like it: easy to work with, a powerfull heuristic engine, easy to update with small files a few times a day. If you don't like it and still want an alternative to KAV then just use F-Prot (it only consumes about 1-2 megs of RAM and his virus definitions are the best and the largest in the world). Anyway, KAV has a problem in remouving some variants of Cih virus, and that's a nasty and world wide spread threat.
DR.Web is a new generation antivirus !

Summary: Crashed my computer
Review: Installation of this software crashed my computer. I am running Windows XP with Norton anti-virus and considered Kaspersky as a secondary anti-virus program. After the very first attempt to install this software, windows could not start. After many hours of trials to restart, the only way out was to re-install Windows and other programs. I have never had such a disaster before.

Do NOT touch this software!!!!!!

Summary: Good Product That needs Work
Review: No doubt this antivirus software is good at detecting viruses, but it is not user friendly. Most people are not very good at doing their definition updates and running weekly system scans and this software does nothing to make it easy for you. It does, however snap problems that others will miss...mainly do to the fact the industry sales leader, Norton, does not issue new definitions fast enough. The daily updates with this software make it safer...if you do the updates and run the scans.

Someone posted in a review they were using this software as a second anti-virus on the same computer and their system crashed. ANY time you have two anti-virus software on the same computer...running or installed you can expect trouble. The version of this software that I installed detected the old anti-virus software and warned about un-installing it first.
