Summary: Disgusted
Review: I've had nothing but problems since I installed McAfee Internet Security 4.0 into my computer. I keep getting error messages until I turn McAfee off. If you want tech support you have to call a long distance phone number, & then McAfee charges you a fee to talk to them! There's free tech support on their web page, but they never get back to you!! In a nut shell, I'm out all the money I spent on this software since I can't use it! I would definately recommend not buying McAfee Internet Security 4.0.

Summary: False Security
Review: I've installed Mc Internet Security with MS XP. Every time I log off, all settings are automatically returned to allow maximum intrusion. The general internet "FILTER" is turned off, FIREWALL is turned off. Lower level settings are DISABLED. This is first of all, a security risk, worse because you'd assume it's automatically in place (ie: just as you had set it in the last session). Secondly, it's a major hassle once you understand that it resets itself to zero security evey time you log off. This is NO SECURITY in my opinion. If you use this system, check out it's behaviour. If you want to buy this system to protect yourself...it's an illusion. I can no longer trust this product.

Summary: Don't expect help
Review: McAfee has a great virus program, the equal of Norton. I wanted some internet security so I bought the McAfee Inertnet Security 4.0 package. It is supposed to be XP compatible but when I installed the Internet Security and Firewall package it disabled my Outlook Express. When I went to their website they said that if this happens right click on the VShieled and then click the "Properties" sub menu. Well there is no "Properties" submenu when you right click the VShield.

I emailed their Tech Support and they said that if the VirusScan works well then: "If this is the case then you must be having conflicts with Internet Security and Firewall portions of the MIS product. We are sorry our product did not meet your expectations". This is their actual response; no offer to help no refund no patch or whatever.

Stick with Norton, I wish I did.

Summary: Save yourself, stick with Norton.
Review: McAfee Virus Protection I rate highly, although not as highly as Norton AntiVirus for the sole reason that it's interface isn't as clean and doesn't always let you know what it's doing.

Personal Firewall; a decent product but again pretty "cranky" with setup and configuration.

Internet Security piece of it; IN MY OPINION, ONE OF THE WORST PIECES OF SOFWARE EVER WRITTEN. I was working with a client who bought it and was having issues with it; I got all pieces working, upgraded to the latest and greatest Internet Security from McAfee "live update" and then boom... no programs can access the Internet and I cannot find a way to put the "allowable" programs back. I take a look at the Internet Security audit files and it says something that the user chose not to allow the programs. That is incorrect.

I thought I simply needed to check the website for some directions. The support area has ALMOST NOTHING, but a really nice way to pay for additional support. I do computer setup and configuartion for a living, but I guarantee I will never use McAfee again. If you're a beginner, don't even bother... I'm still confused and I've been doing this for 20 years.

Buyer beware, if you've read all the other reviews and still sitting on the fence, don't do it. I would not use the Internet Security part of it if they paid me.

Summary: Irate Despite Rebates
Review: No amount of rebates can make up for this bug-ridden and downright frustrating program. I've had nothing but error messages and with no help from McAfee support. I concur with the other reviews seen here at Amazon, and give the nod to Norton on Internet Security Utilities.

Summary: Secure...because you won't be able to boot up your computer
Review: Purchased this program based on what I though was a good brand name. I was extremely disappointed by the program. It was difficult to install, caused numerous conflicts (including with my DSL connection software) including one that prevented the computer from booting up. Only after installing just the Anti-virus software (and not having it automatically scan) was I able to actually get the computer to reboot. Needless to say I'll be purchasing Norton tomorrow to replace this.

Summary: Do NOT buy Mcafee Internet Security 4
Review: This is the worst software I have bought in years. It was a nightmare to install, with multiple errors and crashes. I eventually had to reformat my hard drive. Once I did get it installed it created multiple problems with other applications, most notably making Outlook Express crash. Mcafees technical support is useless, either suggesting we use their phone help (which is only available for a fee), or try to uninstall and reinstall the software. I have uninstalled all but the virus scan software and will go back to using Zone Alarm for my firewall. This product was a waste of money and time - I will never purchase another Mcafee product.
