Rating: Summary: Capable System Suite Review: Initially when I was looking for something to protect my computer, I looked at the big names like McAfee and Symantec, but after pricing out what they were offering compared to Ontrack, Ontrack was by far the cheapest, and easiest to install and use. I like the full blown suite, rather than the piece meal approach. I have pretty much used everything (personal firewall, disk defrag, recovery disk), and I like the one-click features (well almost one-click). The only thing I find annoying is the fact that you have to click through (about 4 or 5 clicks -- means you cannot leave it unattended) the updates. I wish it could also be one click. If you are looking for a set of utilities to use for your personal computer, I would recommend looking into this package as well.
Rating: Summary: Support NOW Nonexistent Review: Liked software until recently. Discovered problem w/NetDefense blocking critical server update connection(after hours of working on problem w/other software vendor system support) Disabling NetDefense does NOT DISABLE NETDEFENSE. Only unstalling the entire SS4 allows server connection/updates. v-Com support nonexistent. OnTrack(former developer/retailer purchased by V-Com) was good support; "v-com" absolutely terrible. Contact capability intentionally made difficult. All either computer responses/worthless and all problems considered solved unless you contact w/i 48 hours. Contact practically impossible. OnTrack no longer allowed to provide tech support, although I did receive a response f/ OnTrack, they can no longer assist buyers. With NO TECH SUPPORT, software will normally become virtually worthless. Switching to other utilities.
Rating: Summary: Great utility suite Review: Loved it. Works fine with Win98, NT4, 2000 and XP. Those are the only OS' I have used it with. It's a toss up between this package and Systemworks 2002 or 2003 Pro. Both are great products.
Rating: Summary: Obsolete product--no longer updated or supported. Review: SystemSuite 4 is no longer supported or updated as of a couple months ago (sometime around October 2004.) If you want SystemSuite, don't buy this old version, get the latest one (at the time I write this it is version 5, but checl www.v-com.com for the latest)
Rating: Summary: The best package out there Review: This is not the greatest piece of software I've ever used. Nonetheless I like it better than Norton, McAfee etc. Its firewall is pretty good and easy to use. I tried Zone Alarm's demo and it locked my computer up. I like the Registry fixer a lot and the cleanup utility is very useful although it sometimes claims to clean more space than exists on my hard drive. For defragging I prefer Diskeeper but the Jet Defrag utility is all right. The Disk scanning utility has hung up on me once or twice and updating is a slight pain in the rear. But all in all, you can't do better than this for a complete package of virus protection, firewall, and maintenance and repair utilities.
