Rating: Summary: it's not perfect, neither is exploring mars! Review: i've taken symantec systemworks 2003 out of my computers, at home and work. over the years, i had noticed glitches in systemworks and the continual updates that eventually fixed the problems the application created. of course, the newest version always held the solution!well, i took the chance of using system mechanic, v.3 and found it did exactly what i need: in far less diskspace, less memory overhead, and if you followed the easy-to-read warnings and instructions it was a NO-BRAINER system utility. it did exactly what you wanted and let you know what it was doing in simple terms...amazing, huh?? system mechanic 4 is on my home machine and it's been there since it came available. there have been NO PROBLEMS created by the application, nor has system mechanic failed to do what it promised. the professional version is going to be purchased within the next several weeks because i'm cautious before spending money on system utilities and carefully test it before buying multiple copies or licenses. i gave the product four of five stars because the interface, though improved since v.3, is a bit clunky. for my money, i'd rate it 4.5 stars compared to 1.5 stars for symantecs systemworks. sometimes it takes some time and real effort to evaluate a program's worth and usability. if we can land spacecraft on mars, why can't we have a computer OS that really works? and, doesn't require system utilities in the first place!!
Rating: Summary: A Rip-Off Review: Steer clear of this product. I bought System Mechanic to solve what should have been a couple of simple issues -- and ended up spending HOURS getting my Win XP system put back into usable shape. This product is not at all what it claims to be...it is not thought out, the interface is fast and loose -- which for an application that gets into the guts of a system is very dangerous. I have not gotten the tech support they advertise...still waiting for them to respond to a trouble ticket. This is really a bad, bad product. It doesn't even come close to what the maker claims it can do and what it does do, it does badly. Worse than a waste of the purchase price because of the time it will take you to undo the mess it makes and if you don't have good backups, you are toast.
