Summary: System Works 2002 (Wonder Works 2002 !)
Review: Norton System Works 2002, is updated from the previous edition and is now fully compatible with windows XP. Installation was a breeze. The program has a more powerful defrag than Windows. You can defrag a file by moving its bits together, but Windows does not compact the disk ie move files to fill the gaps. The disk doctor is also a more powerful program.
The price is worth it for a full Virus Scanner and fax software. This program will fix most problems including cleaning internet mess.

Summary: Great software once again
Review: This is my 3rd Norton Systemworks. Am I biased? You bet, but this is due to my good experiences with Norton's Systemworks.

This is the only Systemworks that will work with XP. I don't have XP,I have ME, but my boyfriend tried to use the 2001 product with XP and it won't even load.

FIXED PREVIOUS PROBLEM WITH NORTON SYSTEMWORK 2001
If you used Norton Systemworks 2001, many people received an error message upon loading that the uninstallation file was incomplete or some such message. It is the only reason I gave Norton Systemworks 2001 a lower grade, that nagging feeling that all was not well, despite its excellent functionality. Norton Systemworks 2002 takes that into consideration and corrects it.

SIMILAR INTERFACE TO NORTON SYSTEMWORKS 2001
The interface from 2001 is retained here. Its one button checkup interface is a winner and gives you a chance to clean up your computer easily. You can schedule this function as well.
Also extremely handy is the Antivirus (a must in today's computers) and the Speed disk. The speed disk orients your file on the computer to make things faster to run. I don't know whether it really runs that faster or not, but if you are going to defrag anyway, you might as well, do it optimized. I did notice Speed disk is not present on the XP computers and I don't know why.
Also essential is Clean Sweep. This little gem of a program cleans out all the space junk from web surfing. If you do this alot, this can add up to a sizeable chunk of memory. I run, the one button checkup, Clean Sweep and the virus check on a weekly basis. Occassionally, the One button check up then pushes me to use Speed disk or Disk Doctor. If you have crashes often due to introducing new software, the Hard Disk can get some errors on it and the Disk Doctor can fix this.

VIRUS CHECK ON EMAIL A LIFESAVER
Recently I saw the results of a virus at work. A co-workers lap top, stopped working. No idea why. Lots of lost work. Hours of recovery to do. Luckily, I kept my virus checker up to date at work and at home. Both this co-worker's files and another's had been snagged by my virus checker, at work and at home.
Invaluable is the email virus checker Norton puts on files coming in. Also invaluable is the year worth of updates Norton provides. Viruses are often new and if you keep up with your virus definitions, you will never get one. The live update function on this is a must. New virus definitions can get pushed onto your system whenever a new one gets out. This is the rage of all the corporate systems and can be had at home with this software.

EXTRA PLUS
Prior to installing Norton Systemworks 2002, I had some kind of weird interaction with Aventail communication software and Outlook. One would not work, if I rebooted with the other software present in the computer. I had to remove the Aventail each time and reinstall. Installing the 2002 software and running it made this crash go away. Now I don't know if 2001 was causing this or not, but the bottom line the problem went away and that is a good thing. Since it was an email problem and the Norton program puts the Antivirus catch in the email coming in, 2001 may have caused this problem.

ONLY ONE QUESTION TYPICAL OF ALL NORTON SYSTEMWORKS, THAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND: WHY IS DOES ONE BUTTON CHECKUP, NOT INCLUDE WINDOCTOR?
I think it would be handier if these two were incorporated.
Windoctor is grouped with Disk Doctor, but I have never had the 1 button check up send me there. I have had to go there seperately and check things out.
Whenever my computer has a problem, I tend to run one and then the other, and I have gotten problems found in both or one or the other. However, this is not a major thing and if you know enough to do this, it works. If you don't you might never get the full advantages of this software.

There is a lot more to Norton Systemworks 2002 than I am putting here. However, this is what I have used and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Below is a quick list:

Utilities:

1. Optimize performance: (Speed disk,Norton Optimization wizard)
2. Find and Fix Problems: (Norton System Doctor, Un-erase Wizard, Norton Disk Doctor, Norton Win Doctor)
3.System Maintenance: (System Information, Wipe Info, Image, Norton File compare)
4. Registry Management:(Norton Registry Editor, Norton Resistry Tracker)

Norton AntiVirus
1. Status
2. Scan for Viruses
3. Reports

Norton CleanSweep
1. Clean up: (Uninstall Wizard, Fast and Safe Clean up)
2. Internet Uninstall: (Internet Cache Cleanup, Cookie Cleanup, Plug in Cleanup, Active X Cleanup)
3. Programs: (Back up wizard, Restore wizard)

Extra Features
1. Symantec Security Check
2. Norton Web Services
3. Expertcity
4. XDrive Plus

Also, Live Up Date, Rescue and Options.

Lots of stuff here I don't even use, but I definitely feel this product is essential to keeping my computer running and well worth the money spent.

Summary: BUYER BEWARE.
Review: I purchased Norton SystemWorks 2002 and installed in on my healthy PC that had no major problems; I just needed basic maintenance and virus protection. After installing and running the utilities, CleanSweep obliterated a massive portion of my hard drive, including over 80% of the 'My Documents' folder, and numerous Program files, components, and extensions. I then discovered the horrible truth about Symantec support: 30 bucks per support phone call, since you obviously can't use the free online help with a crashed machine (I used a friend's computer to submit an inquiry, & waited 2 business days and a weekend for a response). AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS. To date, I've wasted a good 40 hours reinstalling Windows & all my software, and even after running a different Utilites program to repair the damage, my machine still does not run half as well as it did pre-Norton. Unless you consider tedious system rebuilding an exciting challenge, don't make the mistake I did-- choose a better & safer Utilites suite.

Summary: A waste of time and money
Review: I purchased Norton Systemworks Professional 2002 for my home PC running Windows 2000. I was already running Norton Antivirus 2001 and wanted to unify my tools suite into a single interface (instead of the scattering of different tools from different vendors). When I installed Systemworks, I was very annoyed to learn that the 200 days of license time left on Antivirus 2001 would be lost since you cannot install Systemworks 2002 when other Norton products are already installed. Strike one for the software. I uninstalled Antivirus 2001 and installed Systemworks Professional 2002 on the system. I began having problems with other major applications. Things became so unreliable and unpredictable that I decided to get current backups of my files and reinstall everything. Strike two for the software. I reimaged the machine and installed Systemworks on the clean image. After running it for some time, I have now discovered that other actions that I took for granted with other tools are not available in Systemworks. While this is my fault for not investigating fully before purchasing, I feel like a "Professional" version should deliver more. Much more. Strike three. When I get the time, I will reinstall without Systemworks. I have previously been a happy user of Norton Antivirus and PCAnywhere, but this is the end of the road for me when it comes to Norton products.

Summary: Get it now !!
Review: I bought the origional Norton Systemworks. I was going to reinstall it on my new hard drive, but found out that Norton no longer supports it. So, I went out and bought Systemworks 2002.

I just use the different products by themselves. If I ran System Doctor all the time, it'd probably crash my system, as I only have 64kb memory. But, from what I have found using this product, it is a very good product, and worth the price.

Summary: Norton Ghost Component Warning:
Review: I have a laptop computer with a cd burner attached by a USB cable. I bought Norton Ghost 2002 to make an image of my drive on cd. Nowhere on the box, or in the advertisements does it say it will not do this with a USB cd burner. After I opened the box and started reading the manual, on page sixteen there is a warning that Ghost does not support USB cd burners. Be Advised

Summary: Too Bad, not quite ready for WindowsXP
Review: This was a great program before Microsoft introduced WindowsXP. Works great in Windows 98. In WindowsXP you will find some of the Norton's Utility functions provided under Windows 98 missing when running WindowsXP. In fact, I think even $39.95 is too much for what amounts to little more than a virus checker.

All you get besides the virus checker under WindowXP is a (1) duplicate disk defrag program that functions at a slower rate than the one that ships with WindowsXP, (2) a disk doctor {which cannot fix any problems, they are be fixed by rebooting and the CHKDSK program} that functions exactly the same as the error-check utility provided by Microsoft, and (3) a program that checks the registry for missing keys, etc.

If you have WindowsXP do not waste your money on SystemWorks, just buy a virus checker. If you are still using Windows 98 this is a great program.

Summary: useless
Review: This set of program is completely useless. All you need is an anti-virus tool. These other program just suck up you processoer and ram and basically just slow down everything you do. Aviod this program like white powder in your mailbox.

Summary: Some good tools for Pro's, but not for most
Review: First, Symantec needs to revise their OS claims...The ONLY program out of the box that works with XP is the anti-virus. I like the de-frager, but it really isn't as fast as the built in one [from Diskeeper] GHOST is excellent, but is a specialised tool for pros...that I already bought separately, which most companies using it will. My main problem is none works with XP; their last offering [2001] was released for win2000, and all the apps worked with it...this one was released for XP & nothing works.
