Summary: Nothing But TROUBLE!!!!
Review: I wish I had read the reviews before I bought this product. I've had nothing but trouble with my computer since the installation. My computer wouldn't shut down properly. It crashes several times a day with the blue screen of death. I finally uninstalled Internet Security Suite. I'm still getting the blue screen of death. I never had any problems with my computer before this. I think I would have been better off getting a virus!!

Summary: Okay product - if you can debug the problems
Review: I have multiple computers and I buy both Norton and Mcafee internet security suites every year and this year was no different. Installed Mcafee on my XP pro machine and the installation was perfect - led me through a couple of screens and configuration was simple. I was connected to the internet and everything looked perfect.

It was perfect till I tried to access my Floppy/CDRW/USP ports, they had been disabled. Sent an email to Mcafee - It has been a week and I am still waiting for a response. Called up their online tech support (the small chat window - got connected in about 2 minutes) - the lady gave me a few instructions and said they would solve the problem and as expected they did not solve the problem but she did hint that the Mcafee Privacy might me the culprit.

After spending hours fiddling around with the configurations with no use, I decided to UNINSTALL the suite and I had my drives back. I decided on a custom install but did not install Mcafee Spam Killer and Mcafee privacy (could be an overkill) but it not only solved my drive problem but also it does look like it use less CPU resources than before. My connection to the internet seems faster.

If I have the patience, I will write a review for Norton suite but it really doesn't seem to matter which software since Norton is considerably CPU intensive than its 2003 counterpart but it is a sleeker GUI for configuration than Mcafee. I like the norton live updates and hate the small windows that popup when Mcafee has updated the software. Overall I would say the two are a wash but I would pick mcafee for the fact that it seems faster than Norton. Please don't buy it because it has BETTER SUPPORT - SUPPORT SUCKS.

Summary: Surfing on a brick
Review: Hi, I've been trying IS6 now for 2 months, and have found it very hard work. It works well as a Firewall, antivirus, but the Security Center & Spamkiller are c**p. The security center has to keepbeing turned off all the time and thats going to safe, decent sites, the spamkiller works on rules, which are not the hardest thing for spammers to break, so 90% gets through. I dont know whether its my configuration but I have had to uninstall Privacy Center, and use Cloudmark Spamnet for anti-spam.

One example is security center doesnt work with remote desktop, so you have to go to the remote dektop and switch of SC before connecting.
I wish I had gone for Norton Security

Summary: If you are AMD user, please leave it alone
Review: This Firewall is really good, I only have the problems with the VirusScan. Anti-popout is not so good, it will disable the right click feature. This is a very good program except the antivirus program has the weakness of instability.
What should I say is "one little piece of rat crap pollute the whole pot of soup".

If your OS are using other languages more than English, please also leave it alone. You will frequently receive the error messages.

I gave it to my friend who favors intel-based PC.
It's the second time that I gave him Mcafee product.

The first time, I was using VirusScan 6.0. error messages!
I thought my mobo's AMI bios and amd750 chipsets have problems, because WarCraft III always got blue screen.

For this time, I am using sis746 chipsets with WinXP home and AMI BIOS. I have no problems with games or other apps. When the VirusScan was trying to touch my Non-English files, then error messages for NIT-on access scan came out instantly. It's not so stable on the AMD based PC anyway. I did not try the Award BIOS
based AMD system, but I think two times is enough for me.(...) He is runing it fine. His MOBO is using Award BIOS and intel chipsets.


I was being a Mcafee user for ten years-start from ver 2.x. I have to say goodbye now, because I won't like to pay for other people once again.^o^

Summary: Very disappointed
Review: We bought this to "protect" ourselves on the internet. After we download according to the easy to follow directions, we found out that we could not even log on to our internet server. We did not have another computer to access the "internet technical support." When we wanted to call for phone support, they wanted to charge us $39 for their service or $2.95 per minute of service. We were extremely disappointed. We'll buy Norton next time.

Summary: Bad Product
Review: I read these reviews and still bought the product, big mistake. It worked well for a week, then all the updates to spammkiller started coming. Now spamkiller deletes my mail off the mail server. I can read it from the spamkiller window but can't download it to my mail program. I can't even go to my providors web mail and see it. The the firewall is working, I guess. I have tired support and there answer was reinstall, reinstall and reinstall. How about uninstall?

Summary: crashes and problems sharing files
Review: Bought this thing without reading any reviews, mistake... After installing my Win 2000 pc got a blue screen on every start-up. After talking to the (luckily free) chat support and applying numerous fixes that did nothing to my problem, I got a hotfix that fixed exactly the problem i had described to support for hours (blue screen). That took the better part of a long weekend to fix.

But the nightmare wasn't over. Now I cannot share anything from my computer, even if I disable all the Mcafee services. When I uninstall it works. Have spendt close to 10 hrs talking to 5 different support people. No solution yet. They claim they are researching the problem...

Both of these problems happened on both the Win 2000 computers I tried to install on. They were clean installations with no exxotic hardware or software on them. Now I'm getting rid of the crap altogether

The only positive thing to say is that it has been easy for me to get a support person to talk to on their free chat. Then, they are not very knowledgable so I'm not sure if it is good for much...

Unfortunately it doesn't look like Norton is much of an alternative so I'm not sure what to do...

Summary: DO NOT INSTALL - Nightmare Software
Review: I have spent the last 6 hours fighting with this crappy software. Fortunately I could never even get the software to install completely. Unfortunately this crap software doesn't uninstall either! Contacted McAfee tech support via chat and they suggested that I uninstall and then reinstall the software! Thanks! Have done it seven times... now going through the registry line by line removing the garbage left behind. Use Norton. Use Kasperksy. Use anything but this crap. You have been warned.

Summary: Worked Good For Me
Review: At the risk of being labeled a McAfee stooge, I wanted to provide a positive review for McAfee Internet Security Suite 2004. I installed all of the applications of the suite with no problems. I have a year old Dell 4550 with XP Professional. I had let my Microsoft Updates slide a bit, forgot about them, and the machine got infected with Sasser. After battling Sasser for a day (on two different machines) and with my Norton Antivirus subscription running out at the end of May, I decided to get serious about Internet security. I have never had anything but Norton Anti-virus, no firewalls, not anti-spy, no privacy service. So I read about Norton Internet Security at the Norton site. It sounded great and it had favorable reviews with the publications. So I checked Amazon for prices. Much to my surprise there was major weeping and gnashing of teeth in the user reviews, 171 reviews and most of them terribly negative. Ok, so I checked out McAfee Internet Security. It appeared to be principally the same product, with similar features. It as well had reviewed positively in magazines, but McAfee's user reviews were not better than Norton's. There were far less of them, only 52, but again most were negative.

Not wanting blue screens of death, wiped out registries, or a computer that ran slow as sludge. I decided to look around. I found basically the same thing, positive reviews in the magazines and negative user reviews, only far less reviews altogether. So I went back to Norton and McAfee. Using a vague notion that happy users do not write as many reviews as angry users, coupled with the fact that Amazon's price on McAfee was significantly lower than Norton (I did not qualify for either company's rebate) I decided to go with McAfee.

I installed the entire suite without a hitch. I was impressed with the relative simplicity of the configuration process. The program asked questions which for the most part I understood, rather than the typical provide the "GNP of the TCI/IP of the IPS of DNS of the port number 3213 at which baud rate" etc etc. In fact I did not have to refer to any of the address, IPS, gobblygook. The upgrade process seemed a bit clunky at first but worked well. Within several hours I had the suite completely installed, upgraded, registered, and configured. The computer has behaved normally and I believe runs at the normal speed. The applications all seem to work well, and they upgrade automatically while logged on to the Internet.

Am I putting in a plug for McAfee? Not really, I have no axes to grind or laurels to lay. I do feel that with the overwhelming number of bad reviews that it might be helpful for a potential buyer to realize that there are some people who had good luck with the installation. I certainly am no computer whiz. All I can say is that I had no problems, the applications are working well, and it is a nice piece of software for Amazon's $40 price tag. Good luck!

Summary: OverlyFrustrated
Review: This product has caused me to waste many hours of my life trying to make it work. I have made many contacts with tech support, and am still not squared away. I wish I had stuck with Norton. My reasons: (1)It was extremely difficult to set up in the first place, as it did not communicate to me that my registration was effective; so I kept trying to re-register, which was not possible.Probably 20 hours of computer time were wasted on this, largely due to bad advice from tech support. (2)One month after installation, Privacy Service had expired. I followed tech support's directions, it was working, and the next day everything had expired, and none of the protections were working. (3)After uninstalling and reinstalling per tech support's advice, registration will not go through again. (4)It should not take so many hours to get a program to work. Tech support, which is on line, is often very slow to work with, and one needs to have nothing else to do and a lot of time to spare to work things through with them. After following tech's chat room advice, some problems still were not fixed, and I had to take other routes to get answers.
