Summary: Limited CDRW compatibility
Review: Check Dantz's site carefully before purchase - I found only after struggling with the product that the brand-new CDRW on my Dell Dimension 8200 isn't supported for the writing process. Very disappointed that Dantz doesn't work with what should be a very mainstream Hitachi drive.

Summary: Download Trial Version First
Review: Definately download the trial version from Dantz's site first. I tried to get this to work with Windows XP Home edition. My DVD/CDRW drive was listed as supported on the Dantz site, but I had no end of problems. I spoke with their technical staff 3 times and followed their instructions and continued to have errors. Many hours lost. I gave up and chose another backup program.

Summary: Oh, this was a lot of fun with XP
Review: I deleted it in a flash. Crudely single-minded about instantly performing automatic tasks I did not want to perform.

Summary: Download it and try it first!
Review: I downloaded this software from Dantz after a long and exhaustive search. This is the first that supported both WinXP and my CD-RW. And it works just fine, no problems.

I would suggest you go to Dantz' site and download a 30-day trial copy first. This way you can tell if it's going to work for you.

I had used Dantz' software at work to back up some very highly customized workstations, and had no problems with it, even after the workstations were moved to a different area of the company, with different server connections, and so on. We were backing up data up to 50 GB about 5 years ago - an unheard of amount, for those times. So I have had very positive experiences with the software, even in the most demanding of environments.

But I was really put off by the pricing from Dantz. Here at Amazon, the price is reasonable, so do as I suggest: Download a free trial, and see if it works for you. If it does, come back here to Amazon and buy it!

Summary: Will Not Upgrade On Systems With Out Web Access
Review: I have been looking high and low for reliable software for backing up a hard disk to CD-RW's. It has been a frustrating search, and I have donwloaded many different programs to try out. Dantz's Retrospect Express was the first one I've found that actually worked reliably!

It's got a good disaster recovery feature (which I hope to never to need to actually use, although I did try booting from their disaster recovery CD and that worked flawlessly), and it recovers individual files off a backup quickly and easily.

It seems to do exactly what a backup program SHOULD do! And what most other backup programs do not at all seem capable of doing!

Summary: backup disaster
Review: I loaded the program on my computer and started to try a backup onto CD as recommended in the manual. It immediately caused my computer to freeze up and crash. Several more attempts to use it resulted in the same results so to date, this program is worthless. Tried to call customer support but was placed on hold for over 30 min. so gave up. Someone ought to get their act together if this is get any more market share in the software business. It is my first Dantz product and will be my last!!!

Summary: great, reliable backup software
Review: I've been using Retrospect Express for a couple of years now, both on my Mac and PC. It works great. I had some trouble with the new PC version (5.6) working under Windows XP, but a couple of calls to tech support straightened everything out. Dantz support is pretty good -- much better than I'm used to these days!

Summary: Looking for a good backup utility, this is it!
Review: I've used just about every backup utility there is, with many different results...usually bad ones. I first read about this product in a news letter from zdnet. The Anchordesk author, David Coursey uses this, so I thought I would give it a try. This performs a flawless backup of your system to CDR media, and is very easy to use. No need to shutdown your virus protection or uninstall other programs, as with other backup software programs. You won't see this on the shelf in the stores, either. This program won't stall in the middle of a backup like other software...
