Rating: Summary: NOT compatible with XP Review: Look, I've used Drive Image and Partition Magic for many years now and they have saved my data and posterior on many occasions. I had to upgrade to these newer versions because I now use Windows XP, what a pain! Neither one will boot to DOS so I am forced to use the emergency disks. The solution involves my having to send a copy of the 0 head of my drive to tech support so they can change it (WTFO). AND, Drive image doesn't like NTFS partitions created by XP. Any image files created on such a partition will not be accessible to use, rename, move, or delete (again, WTFO). I don't know what else to say, but after spending this much $$$ these dudes had better be putting out some major patches ASAP (no, the ones they have out do not fix these problems)I'd consider Norton Ghost, they seem to the compatibility thing down....
Rating: Summary: You'll be sorry, this is terrible software! Review: Power Quest's Partition Magic is wonderful, but you would think Drive Image would follow in Partition Magic's footsteps...WRONG! This is probably the worst software that I EVER bought. There are only some burners that are compatible with the software, so they say. I even bought one of the burners on their compatibility list. Their support staff wanted to blame it on the burner. Their support page is full of error messages and fixes, if that's not a good clue I don't know what is. I wanted it because Partition Magic is such a great utility, I was sure that Drive Image was great also. Man was I fooled. I had to make them give me my money back. I hope you take my word for it because I hate to see people go through what I went through. This doesn't even rate one star, but [...] scale starts at one. I would probably give it a negative 5 stars to tell you the truth.
Rating: Summary: Running XP Professional? Save your money! Review: The description says "Support for Windows XP", but that's only partially true. You don't find out until you read the manual that the included DataKeeper software for data file backups is not supported for XP. If your running Windows XP Professional you can backup and restore your hard drive with the Automated Sytem Restore and Automated System Recovery that you paid for when you bought XP Professional. ....
Rating: Summary: Drive Image is bogus for XP users Review: The product specification is misleading, this software does not work well with NTFS partitions, as you probably know the system partition in XP must be an NTFS partition. How can this possibly be advertised as XP compatable? I never got it to work even with their on line help support, they just finally gave up on it. Plus everything must be done from boot disks, which really makes it a DOS based program and not an XP utility program. Do not buy, there are better options available, I would suggest Norton Ghost rather than this winner.
Rating: Summary: Great Product Review: This product has solved so many problems and allowed us to deploy operating systems so easily, we would recommend it for anyone (home or business) that wants to easily manage and backup their operating systems.
Rating: Summary: PowerQuest knows about Issues, but failed to resolve them. Review: This program is a waste of money, and not because it is a DOS program, but because by default it failed to recognize my PLEXTOR CD-RW. What good is a drive backup program that does not recognize the image destination? Previously using Win 98 I used PlEXTOR CD-RESQ to backup my hard drive. It was not perfect, but it worked without having to do anything major. Another interesting fact is that PlEXTOR and SYMANTIC co-produced CD-RESQ. PowerQuest knows about the compatibility issues. How do I know? If you buy the software, and skim through the manual, you'll know what I'm talking about. If you are using Windows XP, then you have to use your Windows 95/98 startup disc in place of disc 1 of the Drive Image startup disc. No big deal right? Well, there is more...according to the manual, if the program fails to recognize the CD-RW dirve, then you must edit a line in the Config.sys file. WHY would ANYONE want to do that after freshly installing and configuring WIN XP? What is the consequense of editing the system configuration file? To be more accurate, it would require removing a line in the config.sys of Drive C, or it might work if I edited config.sys of the "virtual floppy". I found out that Norton Ghost (which I had before I purchased Drive Image 5) will backup my hard drive without the hassle. My advice? If you have Windows XP, or a PLEXTOR CD-RW, then don't buy Drive Image 5.0. Get Norton SystemWorks 2002 Pro which comes with Norton Ghost. I like software that works without having to edit system configuration files, how about you?
Rating: Summary: This software is a must for Quality Assurance/Testing Review: This software is the best thing I have ever found for making images of installed software configurations. You can install any OS to a partition and then image the partition before installing other software. After installing and testing the software, you can revert back to the original image in just a couple of minutes! This has saved my butt several times, and makes it easier for my testers to test on clean machines. It is scriptable, allowing me to deploy multiple operating systems to a single machine in succession. This has literally saved me HUNDREDS of hours. The multicast support is great too!
Rating: Summary: I love it! Review: When I damage my computers operating system, all I have to do is restore it using Drive Image and I'm back up and running in less than 1/2 hour. Drive Image's Windows XP support is more than just a life saver. I love this product.
Rating: Summary: Did not work for me Review: With a 450 Pentium III and Win 98SE, I could not get Drive Image 5.0 to write to the second CDR when prompted to do so. Powerequest Tech support said "they are aware of the problem and working on a solution". In an online forum, it was mentioned that "5.0 would not work with SDRam" in their conversation with PQ Support. In my followup call to support I was asked "who told you that 5.0 would not work with SDRam? and that I had 5.01, not 5.0 and the CDR spanning issue was resolved in the 5.01 version". In frustration I asked for a refund of my money -has to be within 30 days of purchase, even though I pointed out that the limited warranty talks of 90 days, one of the conditions being "that the software will perform substantially in accordance with the accompanying documentation". And it does not perform for me.
