Rating: Summary: What you find out AFTER you open the box! Review: Go Back is great time machine. I got hit with a virus AND a Trojan Horse at the same time. I simply went back in time to a safe point and started anew. But....I later needed to re-partition my hard drive. In order to do so the Go Back program had to be disabled along with my Anti-virus program (according to the read-me file). The virus came back from Quarantine immediately and really blew my system because I had NO Protection at that point. It is a great program but with a limitation that can hurt. I only wish this kind of info was on the OUTSIDE of the box! Which non-co-existing program was wrong? You tell me.

Rating: Summary: Download This Software! Review: GoBack is God's gift to PC experts and novices alike. All the users I support use GoBack which mean very few problems for me. GoBack simply puts the computer back to the way it was at any time you choose. Works great, no problems. Contrary to other reviews I benchmarked this software on a number of systems and it only affects system performance by less than 5%. The only downside is that it won't protect you in cases of hardware failure...
Rating: Summary: Sweet Song of Sorrow(s)! Review: GoBack is great! GoBack ain't-so-great! Pick one now, and you'll agree with the other choice later...I teach Quality Assurance Testing software for a living. I've been using GoBack to revert my drives after classes so I don't have to uh, go back and reset all the program options and databases. Three problems I've had with GoBack: 1) creating music CD's, 2) GoBack doesn't tell you how much free space you have remaining in its "History" before it starts overwriting older data. Number three, you ask? A high potential for having to rebuild your entire operating system if you pick a "System Safe Point" and the GoBack fails. If the point you attempt to revert to is more than six days old, you're probably in for a rude surprise. Pick a bad point, and you could doing a total rebuild of your system and all your software from scratch! Oh, and you'll find yourself wishing you'd made those back-ups you've been putting off. GoBack keeps a history. It can store up to 2 Gigabytes of sector changes. The list continues to grow, making you THINK you can still revert to way-back-when. GoBack lacks any form of "Guage" by which you can tell when you're close to running-out of room in the history space. The GoBack log still holds ALL of the human-readable history since the last time you cleared it. So you pick a point to which you'd like to revert. GoBack reboots and then cranks, and cranks, and cranks. Looks good. Eighty-percent. Ninety percent. Then GoBack tells you something like: "Gosh, golly, gee! We know it was in your list, but Buddy... we've lost the data and can not continue. Wanna try a different useless "System Safe Point" and see if it works? We can't tell you if it will, but go ahead, YOU make a guess and we'll give it another shot! Are ya feeling lucky, Kid?" Not to mention that when I try to record an audio CD while GoBack is running, the resultant CD reminds one of the old days of vinyl records. Lots of clicks-and-pops. Hope you have a spare hard drive you can swap-in (sans GoBack) so you can make CD's. If you turn GoBack off to burn CD's, you lose ALL your "history!" Nice idea, this GoBack-stuff. Great start for a "Beta" product. Poor "Quality Control," lack of thought on important issues. And a false sense of security for the uninitiated user. To it's credit: GoBack HAS allowed me to revert a file to what it looked like before I screwed it up (kind-of like Source Code Control without the expense). It's saved me time-and-again when a piece-of-crap software package I've installed has taken control of my system (e.g. ZoneAlarm Pro). It lets me see what files get changed when I do some specific task, or when I install a program. GoBack does have value. Buy it. Use it. DON'T trust it more than six days back. Make back-ups of all your important data. Frequently. Or at the very least: just before you attempt to Go Back.
Rating: Summary: Best Purchase I've Ever Made! Review: Honestly, I use GoBack almost every day! If I get some kind of error from a faulty installation, or an unknown cause, I no longer panic...I just revert my hard drive to 10 minutes earlier! If I download something from an unknown source, and it turns out that the software is crummy, I simply revert to 10 minutes earlier, so that I don't have to worry about viruses or what not. Honestly, I would not be able to live without GoBack... Buy it! Now!
Rating: Summary: PEACE OF MIND. Review: How can you not love a tool that lets you revert back to BEFORE mistakes were made? I was at first skeptical of this software, it just sounds too good to be true, and it seemed to be too easy of an answer to my prayers. Several times I have fallen victim to circumstance (or my own mistakes) and have lost incredibly important data. After several factory restores and heartache and frustration over lost critical and important files, I decided to invest....it's the smartest purchase I've ever made for my computer. With Roxio your pictures, data, email etc are guaranteed safe despite viruses, user error, installation errors or just unknown glitches we've ALL been victim of. I sleep well at night knowing my computer is 100% safe...just as important as firewall and virus scan software. I use the downloaded version to save $10...4 months later I can say this is probably the best utility for my computer I have ever purchased. I'm recommending this software to all my family and friends. It's the best 40 bucks I've ever spent.
Rating: Summary: DONT BUY GO BACK Review: I am a computer tech. and i have had many problems w/ computers that have go back installed. It is not worth the money, because of the problems I have seen it cause.
Rating: Summary: Dont Leave Home Without It !!!!! Review: I am an experienced user who thinks he knows everything. Here is where GO Back comes in this product has saved my a** so many times I can't count. Dont be fooled by the weak attempt by Bills company who has a restore product in their ME version, it smells. You have no control, and you have to go back to points that are at intervals of 10 or more hours, "Man I can strip and rebuild a drive in that period of time.", I need to go back at intervals of 2 min. or 1 1/2 hours a day or a week or last month, sometimes I'll get email cooties and go back saves my a** again. Forget the rest get the best. It is also is great when the kids games video settings mess up my desktop, use GO Back, and all is well it gives me a sense of security that my kids can explore and I wont have to!!! BUY IT NOW!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Peace of mind. Review: I am very particular about my computer. However (at my wife`s insistance), I`ve installed some childrens programs/games for nieces and nephews (ages 3-10) and have a 13 year old niece who likes to surf the internet and leave me little surprises. (changed wallpaper, screensavers, messages, etc.) Needless to say this can sometimes leave me with a jumbled up mess to fix. I`m also a download junkie and always trying new apps and utilities. Although I do periodic back ups it`s nice to be able to pinpoint exactly where I want my system to be restored to. If an install goes bad or new app messes things up it`s a very simple matter to back things up, even if Windows won`t start. I run a DELL XPS with W98/SE Pentium 550mhz/288 megs RAM and have seen no system slowdown whatsoever. Expect to hear some more hardrive activitiy in particular if you have software that updates via the internet on a daily basis and affects a large number of files. Cons, not too many. I would like to see a bit more configurability. Such as not having to protect an extended DOS partition on the C: drive. You have the option of setting passwords on the administrative and user level that will keep prying fingers of 13 year old nieces from deleting your GOBACK history and such. Overall, I highly recommend this protection for anyone who has information on their PC they don`t want to lose.
Rating: Summary: Very good program Review: I don't have GoBack 3, but my extensive use came from an earlier version and the trial version of GoBack 3. Unfortunately my hard drive got fried in a thunder storm and that's something not even GoBack can fix. From what I know about this program is that it is one of the best programs out there. I usually download a lot of stuff, right now I even pushed my computer to 500MB free of 80GB. lol. With so many downloads comes the risk of many things going wrong. With this program installed, you need not worry. Its much better than the System Restore feature for Windows ME and XP. You basically don't have to create a restore point becuse it creates many automatically. You can basically restore your computer to any time. My computer has crashed a couple of times. You know the usual, Windows can't start, freezing after installing bad programs, virus attacks. When all this happends, I just revert the computer to a time before and all is well. It makes me more bold at trying new software. This program is very easy to use, so fear not. Right now I don't have the program, so I'm just looking to buy it now. BTW, this program starts before Windows starts and gives you a couple of seconds to start GoBack if you want. Are there any cons? Yes there are. You must be carefull when reverting your computer. This isn't like the Windows Restore that I think just reverts basically configuration, this literally reverts everything. From installed programs to files. So if you revert it to a time before you started typing that 100 page paper, then that paper is gone. That's just to tell you how good this program is, and with great power comes great responsibility. lol. The amount of memory it allocates to GoBack is dependent on the machine it is running on. This could mean using a lot of memory. I'm not sure but this definately uses a couple gigs on my machine since its an 80 gig. Here's the best thing. If you're not sure whether you want to buy it or not, try downloading the trial version from the roxio website. That's what I did, but that expired. I think its posible to register it after, but its better to have the cd hence I'm buying it.
