Summary: It works !!
Review: A family member of mine can honk up his computer system in no time at all - missing drivers, won't recognize h/w, can't find s/w, etc. Always a big mess and he won't offer hints on what he tweaked. This is the best christmas present I ever bought him (and myself). Its been installed 2 weeks and he's already had cause to run it 3 times to fix the setup. No more gritchy calls to my house to come fix it! It's worked every time so far...what a bargain at this price.

Summary: This product does not work on a new HP computer with XP
Review: After buying this product and installing it on my new 2.4 Ghz HP, I kept getting error messages. Roxio confirmed the problem and provided a downloadable "fix", but after installing the "fix", I could only get my PC to start in safe mode. Then I was given a complicated set of instructions on how to make GoBack work. After a total of 5 hours of agony, I finally un-installed this product (but even the un-install did not work well - it still left me with a nagging error screen at start-up). After tracking down the offending file and just erasing it, I got back to normal using XP system restore. My last act was to toss this product in the can !

Summary: just like Communism: nice theory, horrendous reality
Review: AGH!

Roxio Go Back came with my copy of Norton SystemWorks disk, and the first thing I noticed after installing it was, booting up my PC (1.8 GHz Pentium 4, 512K DDR SDRAM, WinXP) suddenly took up to 3 times longer than before...other software suddenly took 2-3 times longer to boot up. Even my [moderately priced] high-speed cable internet connection slowed down, to how my old dial-up connection was on a good day. I began having problems shutting down, had to resort to just hitting the power off button sometimes. Then I began having problems starting up...once in a while my PC would lockme into in 8-bit display mode, so I had to restart in order to go back to my normal graphics display mode.

Finally, about 3 months later, my PC would start up ONLY in the 8 bit display mode. I lived with this for a few days hoping it would eventually go away, but finally decided to actually USE "Go Back" for a change. So I "went back" about 2 months to an alleged "safe point." Bad, bad idea---it stopped booting up at all and started giving me the XP "Blue Screen of Death." To its credit, I WAS able to get out of this hairy situation by "going back" to a "safe point" only 3 days back, finding myself right back in 8-bit graphics mode. But then again, I would never have NEEDED to "go back" if I hadn't installed this blight disguised as a software utility.

At which point I did a little Internet research, looking at the CNET users' comments on this product I realized that I wasn't the only victim by far. So I removed GoBack, and whaddaya know...PRESTO! All aforementioned problems evaporated and have never come back since. My system now boots up well under 15 seconds instead of 2 minutes, and everything just zings along beautifully.

Moral: somethings are just too good to be true. If you already have Roxio Go Back on your computer, remove it before it starts to screw your PC like it did mine. If you don't have GoBack, spend your money on a CD burner instead and just get in the habit of backing up your docs regularly, or if you want to be extra careful, use Norton Ghost to back up your whole system every couple of weeks.

Summary: Just Say "NO!"
Review: An addendum to my review... Don't do what my friend did and disable Go Back to install "Picture It" or anything else. The Go Back log will be gone, and if you decide you don't like "Picture It" (or whatever) after all, you are S-T-U-C-K. Your whole Go Back log will be G-O-N-E. The whole point of Go Back is to steadily monitor your computer, and leave it to Bill Gates to tell you to disable it so you can't uninstall his product. Can you install "Picture It" without disabling Go Back? I don't know and I won't be finding out. Leave my Go Back alone, Bill.

Summary: Excellent utility, but¿
Review: Be careful if you own dual processor computer - it is not compatible. At least before Roxio publish updates.
Otherwise it's just great piece of software.

Summary: What a Godsend
Review: Before GoBack, if I tried out some software and didn't like it, I'd need the help of about five programs to remove all traces of it, as uninstall engines are quite stupid. And I still could never be sure if I really removed all of it.

With GoBack, I just choose a point in time from its list that is well before the install and off it goes. It reboots, copies a few sectors, up comes Windows, just like before the install. Sherman & Peadbody's Wayback Machine is a reality!

My version came bundled with Norton Utilities 2002, so if you plan on getting that too, check it out. I don't usually write reviews, but GoBack is a flat-out miracle.

Summary: The Greatest Windows Utility Yet!
Review: Computer ran great yesterday? You did something stupid and unistalled AOL because you couldn't get a steady connection & now you can't find one of those disks to re-install? No problem if you have got Roxio's Go Back 3.0 installed. Both of these events have happened to me recently. Rather than spend hours trying to track down the unusual slowness & ghostly hard drive activity on my system I just pointed Go Back to the prior days boot point & let it run while I went to work. When I came home my computer was booted into Windows, running well, & I had a Go Back screen that would allow me to optionally revert forward individual files (I did my Quicken files so that the work/transactions done on the 'slow' day weren't lost).

This program will save you hours of headaches...don't be a slave to your computer..when it acts up just GO BACK!

Summary: If Amazon had a zero star choice I would use it.
Review: Do Not. I repeat do not use this software with XP machines. Nightmare from day two. Able to install ok then the headaches began. Too many to list here and I don't want to get my blood boiling again, but I am an experienced computer user and not afraid of trying new ideas, until this disaster.
Sorry to sound so negative but after all the reinstalls and reformattings and purchasing new hard drives even, I want to help you save a headache.

Summary: Finally
Review: Folks this is actually the only piece of software that, for me, has ever worked flawlesly. You can all toss those restore discs. To test this i took out explorer. Thoses who know will know that without explorer your basically left with a paperweight. Simply and i mean i simply went back to right before i took it out and guess what explorer is back and well. One word amazing!!!!

Summary: I loved it, BUT.........
Review: Go Back has a lot going for it, but when I installed it on my computer it would not boot up. During the boot up phase, and before Windows installed, I was directed to "press any key to continue". I have a USB keyboard and mouse. Because windows did not yet install, I could not "press any key to continue" since my USB ports were not active, and I was stuck. I had to connect a regular serial port keyboard before I could continue the boot up so I could uninstall the software. I tried to contact "tech support" for a possible solution, but was unable to connect. I sent an e-mail query without a response. The theory behind "Go Back" is a good one, but Roxio's tech support is non-existant.
