Summary: Dealing with the IRS is easier...and less frustrating
Review: This program is full of bugs. The updates don't download properly and you will have to do it over and over again. I have received numerous errors, such as the IRS does not recognize my SSN even though I have verified that it was entered correctly. And when you download the software updates, they hide the opting out option below the download button so that they can send you lots of junk e-mails later. Finally after uninstalling the program completely, downloading the update from the internet, (2 hr+ by modem), I was able to do my taxes. The e-filing worked okay. I just wish they would ship a working product that does not have to be completely downloaded. Otherwise, why not just download the whole thing in the first place? In sum, it took me a whole day just to get this program working.

Summary: Awful Program
Review: After reading the comments about TurboTax's registration policy, I abandoned years of its use in favor of TaxCut, and this was a mistake. Those reviews must have been written by TaxCut employees.

TaxCut's interview asks you things like, "Do you need form 2112-yyz?" I don't know those answers; just ask me simple questions as TurboTax does. For some reason TaxCut thinks I own a business, although I don't. Now I believe in "garbage in / garbage out" and take some responsibility for a wrong answer somewhere throughout the interview, but I never suffered this confusion in any of the years I used TurboTax. Anyhow, I'm stuck in a cycle where I fix errors only to generate more errors. When I fix those I get the first set of errors again. It's maddening.

A friend used TurboTax this year, and didn't find the registration process intrusive in the least.

Summary: TaxCut works great and is cheaper than TurboTax
Review: I've used TurboTax for years, but this year based upon price, I decided to try TaxCut - it works great! I e-filed my return quickly and easily.

Plus, you don't have to worry about the spyware in Turbotax!

Summary: This product is horrible
Review: If you want an unrepsonsive, cookie cutter program that looks like it was thrown together in a weekend, than this is the product for you. You can also expect some erroneous error code when you try to e-file, that is neither listed in their help file, or in their knowledge base online. Just an error like Fatal Error UNDEFINED_SOCKET_ERROR. Then you'll find there is no way to actually speak with a human being about your problem (unless you want to buy it of course). So you'll send an email, five days later you'll get a response like try closing tax cut and re-sending it, what a revelation why didn't I try that, oh that's right I did. Seriously too much of a head ache, horrible support if there even is any support. And from a technical persons perspective a truly terrible peice of software.

Summary: North Carolina filers - don't use this product!
Review: I used H&R Block's online filing to generate and e-file my Federal and North Carolina return. There is an error in the NC return. No Declarations Control Number is generated for or printed on form NC-8453, which must be mailed to the State. H&R Block's tech support was no help, and they refused to refund my money. If their online product has this bug, I expect the purchased software does too. North Carolina filers - beware!!!

Summary: Don't Buy This
Review: I bought TaxCut because of all the bad things said now about turbotax. However, it is buggy. In fed, it never prompts u to enter 1099G forms. This can cost u an audit.
In state (NJ), it never prompts you to enter medical deductions. It just silently uses the federal numbers. However, this is wrong. The state numbers are not the same as fed. If u have medical FSA, it cannot itemized on federal, but can be on state. Even worse, on fed, it asks if you have more than 7.5% med expenses, otherwise, don't bother entering. So I didn't enter any med deductions. NJ state is 2%, so I would be able to deduct but taxcut never prompts for it. Just silently puts 0 from fed. Also, it won't e-file if I manually update state med deductions directly in form. Called Tech Support, explained them problems, but they are clueless. Kept telling me to go to hire a tax advisor. :(

Summary: Great Alternative to TurboTax!
Review: I have been a loyal user of TurboTax by Intuit for years. This year they loaded up their software with spyware that killed my hard drive and then they would not give me a new code to install it on my new hard drive. I returned the TurboTax for a full refund from BJ's Wholesale Clube and tried TaxCut. I think the user interface in TaxCut is much better and it imported my TurboTax files from last year with no problems. I highly recommend this product.

Summary: MUCH BETTER THAN TURBO TAX!!!
Review: I used Turbo Tax last year, and I would have to say that it was a little annoying to use. I would have to log onto the Internet occasionally to get the latest updates, and I did not feel comfortable logging on with all of my personal information embedded in Turbo Tax. I looked at the reviews for Turbo Tax this year on Amazon.com, and they seem to be terrible.

I decided to go with TaxCut, and I love it! The software asks you to get the updates online right in the beginning, without taking any information from you. This way you don't have to share anything online. The download was pretty large (14MB), however it was worth it.

It is an easy step by step setup, and you'll be done with your taxes within an hour or so. In addition, the tech support and customer service is amazing! I had a problem, called their number, and wasn't even on hold for a long time!

Summary: Customer Support
Review: While the program is great, the customer support system is lacking. I called the 800 phone number for a recorded message that directed me to a long distance phone number. When I dialed that phone number, another voice message instructed me to dial a different long distance phone number. Two long distance phone calls later I spoke with a customer service representative that was not very helpful.

Summary: Problems with TaxCut
Review: I read about the bad things about TurboTax this year, so switched to TaxCut. But it has problems.
1. It doesn't know about the handling of ESPP or Options,
in this edition, no question about ESPP or option is
asked. You have to do you own calculations (e.g. the ESPP
gain is already included in W-2 etc.), I ended up
doing the math manually myself.

2. It cannot do E-file behind firewall, or even home networks!
I am stuck now, cannot do E-file! I used to do E-file with
the same network with Turbox Tax last year without problem!
This is per TaxCut tech support that you can't file if you
are behind firewall.

3. Other misc usability issues.

I would recommand getting Turbox Tax and that third party
software to wipe out those bad softwares.
