Rating: Summary: massive hardware upgrade necessary for the Luclin expansion Review: I have enjoyed playing EQ for quite a while and have a couple of fairly high level characters on it; I looked forward to the Luclin expansion, but the dreary computer hassles (still not resolved) associated with the expansion (and the socalled help line from Verant/Sony is a cruel hoax, their boilerplate automated responses to questions are clear evidence they have not put in the technical resources to help at all) have sorta soured me on the game
Rating: Summary: What a great expansion. Review: This expansion is great. I have a P3 1ghz with 512mb of Ram and a 32mb video card and the game runs fine with all the new character models loaded. While reading some of the other reviews I realized that there are a lot of dumb people out there that didn't give it a chance. One guy actually said it took 3 hours to install. The installation took no more than 10 minutes. Now the first night the patch server was overloaded so it did take a bit to get in to the game that one time. Since the release date the patches have made it run like the old EverQuest. I have also run this on an AMD 1ghz Athlon and had no problems after the 2nd day. Also some people in their reviews have mentioned Ashron's Call which is a joke of a game. Yes it is easier to solo in AC, but you can still do so in EverQuest. I know many people between 50-60 level that have soled there way to the top.
Rating: Summary: Get a Clue!! Review: Sony has managed to rune all the fun of EQ by releasing the Shadows of Luclin WAY before they were ready. Only a hand full of video cards can handle the game and even those are crashing at least twice and hour. The lag rates have doubled the link deads have tripled and I you think there Tech support is willing to help,,,, You dead wrong! Hands down the worst purchase of the year and I guarantee they will lose thousands of gamers as a result.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable Review: The new graphics and player models are insane. Definitely worth the (money). If you have EQ, this is a must.
Rating: Summary: This game is the best EQ expansion Review: I have not had ANY problems with SoL. Waiting in tech support is for (...) who don't know how to wait for the next patch. With every patch (about every night, just about a minute's worth) the game's "lag", "bad load time" and other factors get better. But for me they were always great. People whine that they cannot run SoL AFTER they bought it when they were informed of the min. system requirements up to 2 months before it's release. They say that you can't play EQ cause you cant run Luclin, well there are still 5 coninents: odus, Antonica, Faydwer, Kunark and Velius. This is a great expansion, 'nuff said.
Rating: Summary: what people in the game say after some time SoL came out Review: A 26 year old gamer since Nintendo came out says: Just as the subject says.. I have yet to see a player complain about SoL at all. As the games name states, it is now even possible to do ever quest more than the other previous expansions. Having played them all, i would have to agree. EQ is not for kids (you know who you are, stop fussing), if you cant upgrade your own computer then dont get this game cuz you will just ad yourself to that list of kids with parents who spoiled them with their credit card accounts to play EQ, then complain about spending money to upgrade the puters CPU or video card. Geeze, after reaching level 55 i thought i was getting near the end, nope, i havent even seen half the land that the original everquest had. If you wanna see pretty pictures and easy game playing with fancy doodahs maybe some of those <gasp> other everquest look alike games will do, those that claim to have made EQ better, just dont complain when you come back to EQ when you get tired of how limited the game is. This game is nearly 3 years old and unlike most games, has patches weekly it seems to keep it changing for the better, which means that during the wee hours they patch the servers. Not sure whose fault it is, but Im sure they could've had better ideas than the continuous patches when SoL first came out. I hope more reviews come out a while after the games patching beginnings do to make the review rating right.
Rating: Summary: Rock on EQ Review: This game is the bomb, all of you who say you don't like it due to bugs you need to be patient, they will work it out. I have a amd 600mhz with 380 ram and tnt 2 vid card, it runs good, if your a true EQ gamer the occasional lag will not matter to you, in closing If you like EQ for sure get luclin (...)
Rating: Summary: Looks great, less filling. Review: Well, I got this the day it came out. Before then, I was sort of falling out of favor with EQ. However, after getting this and suffering through the initial rush to the patch servers, I had a good experience. HOWEVER - Don't underestimate how powerful a PC you need to run this game AT FULL CAPACITY. My machine before was a 500MHz with 512MB RAM and a GEForce2 Ultra64. And I had everyhting turned on. The old zones were good, but the new zones were choppy, and when I saw a group of people, I'd chop up. Verant has done a good job of getting most of the showstopper bugs fixed as of this writing. But I think they did a HUGE disservice to the EQ community by changing the specs the day of release, and shutting out people whose cars do not comply to DX8.1 (Kudos to them for telling people to try out DX8 beforehand...like, a month beforehand. But, that was DX8.0, not 8.1, That was a major faux pas.) Overall, I like the expansion. My Erudite necro looks UBER now, and all the player models look good. Since I upgrades to a Athlon 1800XP, life is better. I love the new Vah Shir race, but you won't see me playing a Beastlord for some time...I'm not paying overinflated prices for BL specific items at inflated prices. :)I'd give it 5 stars, if it weren't for the huge game requirements and the DirectX faux pas.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Pathetic Review: You figured the guys at Verant would have at least tested this buggy piece of garbage. But, as it is, their motto is "your in our world now." and I suppose the rest of that statement ought to read; "and if you don't like it, then tuff..." Horrible customer service and a condescending, and almost disdainful regard for their "customers", is par for the course for these clowns. I would strongly recommend this tittle for those with strong masochistic tendencies.
Rating: Summary: Why did Everquest do this? Review: Everquest has put out Shadows of Lucin without warning us(the old playerbase) that major system modification would be required. NOTE: this also comes right at christmas when most peoples hard earned cash is being spread thin already. I have heard from some of my fellow players spending up to ($$$)to upgrade things like memory, video cards, and even new p.c.'s just to play at the old level. As far as I am concerned this was uncalled for just to put in 1 minor feature that was not required for play. Thos of us who chhose not to upgrade(or cannot afford to) or locked completely out of the game.
