Summary: A Big Waste of Money
Review: When I first played the game, I was actually having a blast with it, but the game got more tiring than fun. Basically the whole meaning of this game is to do missions. And while you do these missions, you hack and kill like 500 monsters. And let me advise you that the only way to kill these monsters is by clicking your mouse. So picture yourself clicking a million times to kill the same monsters over and over again. The villagers don't really care about you. All they do is tell you what to do! Your character is missing a huge plot. And your character doesn't really have a good background story. Actually, your character has no background story at all. You've just mysteriously been put in a certain village and then the villagers just bug you. Trust me, if you think this sounds boring, then don't waste your money on this game.
Now let me tell you about leveling up. When you get a level up, you gain 5 points for your stats, and 1 skill point for your skills. But the bad news is YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE what type of stats you want. Here's an example... If I have 5 points to waste, I'd use 2 on strength and 3 on dexterity. That's basically it. I don't really like this because I think of it as being cheap. I'm used to games when you level up, you gain your new stats automatically. What if you put too much strength points and little life points on your character? Yeah he'll be strong, but one hit on him and he's dead! Its too complex and unfun at the same time. And I hate to say this, but once you waste your points, you can never average it all out to your other stats. Now I think thats cheap. Now let me tell you about the skills: When you level up, you also can gain 1 magic skill. I liked it at first, until I noticed that the skills have levels to themselves too!!! And you know, its not easy trying to figure out which magic skill I want to be in level 2, 3, or 4 because all the magic skills are equally important. But here's a story of what happened to me:
I noticed that Holy Freeze slows downs my enemies and that it really helped me in fighting the monsters. So I kept putting holy freeze to the next level. Before you know it, i had that magic skill up to level 7. But you know what happened? I came across this huge boss who wasn't even AFFECTED by my holy freeze skill! Its like all that leveling up for that freeze spell was for nothing because I could never pass that boss because I used all my skill level on that holy freeze move. And let me tell you, thats all you needed in order to kill ANY monster. But no, they had to give it an exception to this boss. I was very disappointed. And thats why I don't like those games where you learn a magic spell, and you have to choose what level a certain magic spell needs because you don't know what type of spell affects what type of monster or boss. Oh by the way, did I tell you that as you level up, the monsters do too. Thats another frustration that I can't bear.
In conclusion, I must say don't get this game. Its not your typical rpg. It has no real plot (just doing missions for the townspeople who don't want to do anything for themselves), the leveling up system is totally messed up, AND I found so many glitches and mistakes on this game, that I had to give it 1 star. I couldn't believe how this game became so popular. It just isn't worth buying, and I hope my opinion has helped others not to do the same mistake that I have done in buying this game.

Summary: Great RPG, gothic fantasy fun.
Review: First let me say that I have never been the biggest fan of RPGs(though Final Fantasy 7 is an exception). However in the case of Diablo II, I love ehm. It is a highly fun and entertaining game. It revolves around the lands of sanctuary(sanctuary is the name of the world or section of the world). Diablo, the lord of terror, was once imprisoned in a soulstone along with his brothers, the lord of destruction and the lord of hatred(Baal and Mephisto). However now he has been released and is shedding his terror and darkness over the world and of course you must stop him. The Charecters: You have the option of 5 charecter classes in Diablo II. The Amazon: A beautiful but deadly warrior from accross the sea. She is a master at wielding bows and spear weapons. Necromancer: Raising the dead and cusring his enemies are his specialties. The necromancer is one hell of a charecter. He can, after slaying his unfortunate opponents, raise them from the dead as skelatons who fight for him(he can raise one skelaton per exp level). Barbarian: When it comes to fighting, THIS GUY ROCKS. A warrior from far away, ancient, not too mention heavily guarded, mountains, the barbarian is the ultimate charecter when it comes to meelee weaponry. As he charges through he can shout great battle cries which can send his enemies running in fear, or leave them dead. He can slaughter enemies mercilessly before showing signs of weakness, but his most impressive skill is the ability to wield to weapons at once, one in each hand. With an ax in one hand and a sword in the other he can easily exterminate his opponents.
Paladin: A holy crusader, the Paladin fights with faith and the light of truth as his weapons(as well as his sword and shield). He casts holy magicin the form of auras. Don't underestimate him...he can be a strong warrior. Sorceress: Though skilled with weaponry, the sorceress uses elemental spells as her mane weapons. Wielding ice, fire and lightning, she is a demons worst nightmare. All of the charecters have them own advantages and flaws, but they are all great and real fun to play as. Combat and Control: Control is great in this game. You simply click were you want to go and your charecter will move. You can also make them run(though this uses up stamina) which is a big advantage when you need to escape a horde of enemies quickly. You use a two mouse button combat control(unless you use mac). The control of each button is fully customisible. Combat is every where and you can't go a minute without fighting(wether small skirmishes or huge battles). Some say this is a problem and that there isn't enough puzzle involved. Well they have there opinions but it's there is enough exploring to satisfy my intulectial needs and more than enough fighting to satisfy my destructive needs. I will admit that there is one form of over combat. The problem is that they often stick HUGE amounts of monsters in one space(like enough to fill your screen). Then they all charge at you and before you know it your dead(unless you run). This means I often am simply running trying to avoid combat. I don't mind small bands of 3 to 6 or seven but it can be ridicolous.
Items and weaponry: There are PLENTY of items to use in Diablo II. Crossbows, swords, potions, axes bows, spears, you name it. And they are every where. You will probly find yourself filling your inventory in a matter of minutes with weapons and potions. And if you have extra items or ones you can't use then just sell them. One very helpful item is the Town portal scroll with wich you can open a portal to the nearest town(usefull for escaping from large battles when you are cornered or low on health and health potions). All this is not with out a problem. The inventory could be much bigger. However that is only a minor problem. Weapons usage: I really like the way they have set up weapons usage. When you find weapons you may not be able to use them right away because they may be unidentified. This can be fixed with Identity Scrolls. Also weapons require you charecter to be atleast at a certain EXP LVL(Expiriance Level). They also require certain Degrees of strength or dexterity. This keeps you from simply grabbing the best item you see and they blasting your way through the game(this being a good thing as it allows for strategy). Also, weapons degrade in durabilty with usage. This means that you can't just pick your best weapon and use it for ever. You have to compramise and think and balance your weapon usage. Durabily can be replenished at a blacksmith.
Player advancement plays a big role. Unlike in many RPGs where when you advance to a new level the game chooses the HP or EP or SP or DP(striength points, Energy points ETC), in Diablo II you choose this your self. Also whenever you advance to a new EXP LVL you have the options for new skills. You get chose the skills so you customise wether your amazon gets to fling buring arrows or attack with lightning spears, or if you barbarian learns a new battle cry or become better at wielding axes.
One person complained that the caves and maps were not randomly generated. This is not true....they are. I don't know what he/she thinks "Randomly Generated" means but he is wrong about it in this game. You ussually have an idea about what sortof oppenents will inhabit an area but you don't know which in particualar or where they are or where items will be or how the cave will be shaped. THEY ARE RANDOMLY GENERATED.
Grpahics aren't the best but they do fine.
Well there you have it, DiabloII. It is a great game and I highly suggest you buy it. Not a waste of money

Summary: Disgusted
Review: Read all the other reviews, then this one.
This Diablo has an incompetent save feature that precludes you from saving back to your most advantageous moment. Instead, it saves you back to the status you have after a loss. Wonderful!!
Secondly, when you leave, you might start back with a loss of materials painfully accumulated after hours of play.
Thirdly, after increasing your skill level you'll find that the monsters have increased their strengths, etc.
Why bother? Save your money for some other way to waste your time.
Thank you for your time.

Summary: Has its faults.
Review: I played Diablo II to the end, from the defiled Cathedral of the first Act to the literal Hell of the fourth and even went on in the expansion pack and beat that. That says something towards the mindless enjoyment of the game but it was sadly lacking.

First of all I wish that you had been able to choose your species, not just class, there would have been greater replayability if there were more options. Second: Too hack and slash, not enough puzzles or times you really have to think beyond "Kill, kill, kill". Third: As someone else said, it requires patience not skill. Fourth: After the first act I always had at leas 100,000 gold, didn't really have to scrounge to keep good finances, especially since I knew whatever was being sold I could just find later on.

I was happy that not all the quests ended by saying "Kill _______". The Horadric Cube one, where you had to gather pieces of a staff then put them together was nice until I got to the third Act and had to find the pieces of Khalim's Will. Most the plots though, it just seemed like I was another mercenary being paid to slaughter because no one else would dirty their hands.

On a final note, if this had been more plot-driven, if there had been more puzzles and thinknig to it, I would have given it five stars because undeniably this is a fun game to play. As it is however, I'm not sure it deserved four.

Summary: FUN GAME
Review: Ya, DIablo 2 is definitely a game worth your money. My favorite game used to be the original Diablo for the Playstation. I played that game for many hours by myself, and with my cousin. So, I decided to get Diablo 2 for the computer, and it was amazing. I got addicted to this game for a while and couldn't stop playing it. There are fun characters who each have their own unique abilities. A word to the wise is only play this game if you have a significant amount of time. The only thing I don't like about the game is that when you save it you have to kill a whole bunch of evil creatures you just killed. But, don't let that stop u from getting this game, cuz it is among the best out there! My favorite new game

Summary: Great the first time... Dont play online...
Review: It was good the first time through,
but after that, it was all about "MFing" (magic item hunting)
and endless boss/cow runs to improve your pointless charactor.

i have tryed all the classes (around lvl 80 for each+variations)
and it just drones on, and on.. and ON!

dont buy it if you want to maintain sanity, and tanned skin.

buy it if you like doing things over and over again.

(BTW, it isnt anything like diablo1-- that game required skill, not patiance)

Summary: Works great - even on Linux!
Review: I played the demo and have bought the full version. They both work GREAT on Linux (using WineX). No lag, no nothing. Highly recommended.

Summary: Oh please...
Review: Come on! Diablo isn't much. It's just kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, rescue guy or girl who tells you to kill more, than kill again. And they call this an RPG? Folks, RPGs are supposed to have an intresting plot and variety. This is just killing demons for several hours. Sorry, but it gets an F from me.

Summary: Hateful Loving, Loving Hatred
Review: Expect to get addicted to this game -- that much of the hype is true. Then expect to spend hours playing until you either hate yourself, or someone else hates you.

It's fun all right, but it seems so -- visceral and pointless after a while.

And don't let the M rating fool you, as there is definitely nudity in the game. Sure it's on a non-human, but it's still there. I'll leave the rest to you.
