Summary: A souped up Diablo 1, but not as nice to look at as Nox
Review: Sure, Nox has incredible graphics and is a heck of alot of fun to play on line, but Diablo II is sure to hit a home run with its deep game play. Having been on the drawing board for so long, unfortunatley graphics technology has past up this game before it has even hit the shelves. I think that is my only real beef with the game. The game has earned the rest of the 4 out of 5 stars in full! A couple of things to be looking for; The camera view of game play is zoomed in a bit closer to the action than in D1, so your field of veiw isn't quite that braod. The map display is very nice, but can be a bit more intrusive when left up during battles. When talking with an in town character and you have the listed menu displayed, you don't have to hit exit or esc to find your way out of the menu, you just walk away from the character you are talking to (The fewer keystrokes, the better). I have found that some of the houses that you can go into all look the same inside. I hope that this will not be the case when the full version is released, because it shows little imagination. Some of the items that can be found are "socketed" weapons/armor. Jewels and precious stones that are found to have different attributes and enhancments can be installed into these socketed items to furthur enhance them. I have found that to be very nice. When dealing with people in town to purchase new items, you see their actual inventory, not just a list of what to choose from. All in all, is this a game to purchase? Absolutely! Is it everything that you have dreamed of for the past 3-4 years? No, but it's darn close! Keep your expectations of being "wowed" to a conservative minimum, and you will find that this will become one of the best games to hit the streets - EVER.

Summary: Best yet!
Review: I just received the Stress Test demo of Diablo 2 yesterday. After months of waiting for this game, I can tell you, it's not a let down! If you played the original Diablo, and liked it, you will LOVE this game. Everything in the game has been greatly improved, graphics, story line, characters, music, gameplay, and the setup for gaining levels and learning spells and skills is very easy to understand, and still realistic. If you've played Diablo online, you probably know about all the cheaters and hackers that ruin the game. It wont happen again! Diablo II has a large number of factors that keep it from being hacked. Hacking it would be like trying to fit a key into a lock that has 10,000 dents and bends in it. Everything about this game wins! I have yet to see a better PC game than this!

Summary: Over rated, not much better than Diablo 1
Review: There are obvious improvements with Diablo 2 such as improved character developement and better graphics. But there really isn't a whole lot better about this game than its predicessor. Also, the fact that the game has been delayed and delayed some more has really got me wondering if they are ever going to get this right. Who knows, maybe the final version might change my mind, but this latest beta doesn't make me want to go stand in line and buy it whenever it does come out.

Summary: After Beta testing I can assure you this is a must buy
Review: A huge fan of the original I had to try for the Beta. I made it and I can assure you Blizzard took a great game and made it better. The customization of each individual character, the vastly improved graphics combine to make this game one of the best!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Glad I did it
Review: I was approached a few weeks ago by a friend of my cousin who worked for blizzard. He said he knew I loved the original Diablo (I still play it) and wanted to know if I wanted to beta-test it. I said sure.

Playing it for the first time, I found it performed very well on my P-200, 32MB RAM. It begins with an amazing cinematic sequence that fills many of the plot gaps for those unfamiliar with Diablo I. The actual gameplay is the same system of mouse commands, the interface very similar, but less obtrusive (eg. when talking to somebody, the text is not screen-sized, but specific to the part of the screen in which that character is located). The level upgrade system is more logical, less mathematical. The weapons actually appear diffirent when you hold them - a short sword is not identical to a dagger when weilded by the character. I haven't had a chance to play all the characters (the game is VERY long), but they seem very distinct, with varying, but well balanced strangths and weaknesses. As before, however, the general tradeoff is speed and magic for brute strength.

I've come across 100's of distinct weapons, armor, and magic items in the first level only, so I guess there may be 1000 or even more! The soundtrack is eerie and differs in each level. The sounds of dripping water and moaning add true realism to this game when played late at night!

The graphics are far from state of the art, but very decent (I assume this was either 1) to keep the size of the game down or 2) because it's been in production for so long), and I found myself grateful for my 3Dfx card, which greatly smooths out the gameplay (I don't know if it is neccessary on a faster machine, but it is supported nevertheless).

This game is the crowning jewel of my collection. From the depth of the storyline which is, literally years in the making, to the subtle wit and plot twists that are so obviously showing of hard work and dedication. I think this game will be Blizzard's best ever. Buy it now!
