Summary: Thinking about playing it again.
Review: I will admit I have never read the novels of this series but the game intrigued me.

Your character throughout the game is D'kor. You get to travel with him and the dragon he 'impressed' (the dragon accepted him and they share a telepathic connection). You start off very nicely and the characters train you as you go. So you are not left to your own devices on what to do.

The plot line is great, there is a lot of intrigue. You find out about someone D'kor has a crush on (and your dragon chastises you about it, it's cute) and you learn a little gossip about the people in your team.

You can visit the library and read scrolls. It was quite interesting actually, if you read that in the beginning it helps you locate where to go on some of your quests.

Unlike most RPG games there isn't much fighting, it is a more interaction based game. You primarily go questing. One of the major quests is you go on a search for the Waeyerwoman (the female keeper of the gold dragon) and in searching for candidates you happen on a lot of sub-quests.

The plot keeps you guessing who the 'bad guy' is. I highly recommend this game to those who like RPG (role-playing games) and fantasy games.

Summary: Pern Comes to Life!
Review: I've been a fan of the Pern series for about 8 years, ever since a teacher suggested one of the books to me.
When I heard about a computer game being made, I had high expectations. I was not dissapointed.
In DragonRiders, you play the role of D'kor, rider to bronze Zenth. Your Weyrwoman has died recently, and her golden queen dragon, Morath is withering away on the hatching grounds, gaurding a clutch which includes a golden egg. Your mission is to Search out a woman who might be able to Impress the new queen when she hatches.
As you play, you find more and more quests to accomplish, from rescuing a lost boy in the caves, to befriending and helping the people across Pern.
Any fan of the series should get this game, some movie scenes may be slow and the lip synching is sometimes off, but in my own opinion, this is the greatest PC game ever!

Summary: A warning..
Review: I've been waiting 4 years for this game and the moment it was up for sale I ordered it! But to my dismay when it got to my house I found out there are hefty system requirments...which arn't obviously listed anywhere on Amazon.com nor the creator Ubisofts page. So for those like me who don't know this game requires among other things a 3D accelorator card, 300Mhz (Pent2 or higher), and a whole lot of space...

Summary: A (somewhat disappointing) must-have for Pern fans
Review: Like many others, I was absolutely wild to get my hands on this game when I first heard about it, as I`ve been a Pern fan for many many years. I think the developers did a good job considering their limitations, but of course, there was absolutely no way this game could have lived up to my hopes, dreams, and expectations to be totally honest! The controls were a bit difficult, and there were some noticeable bugs, but for a die-hard Pern fan there is no way you could pass up the opportunity to be in the game. It didn`t take too long to beat, but my first time through I wasn`t able to get to all the secrets, so the opportunity to replay and re-enjoy is there. For the Pern enthusiast, this is a must-have. For the gaming enthusiast, I would rate this a `pass`.

Summary: Addictive and Lovable Goodness
Review: Personally, I don't know what the bloody is wrong with these people giving DR:CoP less than above average in reviews. So WHAT if the angles and such are a pain? I've found the whole 'loading time' problem not to be the game, but your computer. Granted, DR:CoP wouldn't load on my old 98 machine, but works like a charm on my new XP. But other than the technical mumbo-jumbo, I tend to look at the whole gameplay interaction rather than how you play it.

Just the *thought* of a Pern game set my senses wild. I've been a fan of Anne McCaffrey's world going on five years now, and I have to say, this game brought /so/ my sense into my perspective of the books. To tell you the truth, I had zilch ideas of what a Weyr looked like - I mean, I knew the whole cavern dealie and such, but this game just made it so much more.. clear. And the firelizards! I /loved/ my little flits, and Zenth. Come on! While I used to think D'kor was just.. icky to look at, you grow to love him even through the hysterical faces and gestures he makes in the Tunnlesnake Caves..

Sure, I know how aggravating it is to deal with the game freezing on you in the glitches (it just about drove me mad some times..) and I know it can be touch with the angles, but I really found the game itself worth it. Come /on!/ You get to be the sexy, confident Bronzerider looking for Gold candidates all while saving Pern. And the Hatching Sands! That had to be my -favorite- environment in the games. **swoons at the pretty Gold..**

Needless to say, if you are a diehard Pern fan (you gotta have atleast some knowledge of the books to understand the game..) and enjoy roleplaying / goal-oriented / generally interesting games, this is for you. The battles aren't exactly dynamic, but then again, did you expect fluffy D'kor to be a ruffian?

**crosses fingers.** I can only wish they'd do a sequel now.. or something of the sort. *_*

Summary: More Dragonriders Please.
Review: The graphics and audio are excellent. I found two drawbacks:(1)controls are keyboard driven...no mouse;(2)plus having zilch capability to scan the immediate environment(panoramic camera)proved frustrating at times.
However, if you are a Dragonrider's fan, this game is well worth the extra time and effort it takes to play it.

Summary: It's the Dragonriders of Pern...sort of
Review: The long awaited video game based on Anne McCaffrey's awesome Pern series is a mixed bag to say the least. On the one hand it provides a great interpretation of life on Pern. You get to interact with all manner of people, be they Rider, Holder, or craftsman. The game is set in the Seventh Pass so don't expect to see any of the characters from the books make appearances. The story is pretty good and the game follows a find item and take it here type of gameplay. If you're familiar with "Resident Evil" you know what I'm talking about. Unfortunately, the game has its flaws. For one, you can't really "ride" your dragon. The dragon acts as more of a glorified transport from area to area. So no Thread fighting. And combat is simplistic and tedious. (tap forward for light attack; hold for heavy). It doesn't really add to the game. In short, if you're a Pern fan its worth a look. But if your looking for a solid video game experience, look elsewhere.

Summary: Ick!
Review: The only reason I bought this game and still own it is because it's Pern. Too bad it's so BAD! Terrible, terrible loading time, wierd voice acting, you don't get to fight Thread, and it's SLOW (story-wise). I almost fell asleep playing it. I know this is really harsh, but if you really want to play the game, BORROW someone else's copy. It's only worth buying if you're a Pern Fanatic.
