Summary: High potential brought down by incompetent company
Review: It is hard to believe that people working now at Funcom even ever made this game this far. The release version didn't differ from Beta4 much and the release version should be considered as Beta5. It has game breaking bugs, exploits and it is unstable. Every time they make a fix, they break more than they fix and issue emergency patch which again usually breaks more things. The company is smokescreening a lot and the story the game promises is nowhere to be seen. They even dont have ETA for the story which was to be main selling point of this game.
Good:
- Very nice graphics and music
- Nice special effects like sandstorms etc.
- If it worked and had the promised story, it would be best
Bad:
- Unstable
- Game breaking exploits and bugs
- Horrendous, almost nonexistent support
- Programmers who break many things for each thing they fix
- Its all eye candy. Content is non existent
- Story is non existent
- Mid to High level game is broken, non existent and plain boring
- Major incompetence from the company in every aspect of development, programming, customer support and QA dept.
End result?
Wasted opportunity. A game that could have been best but was brought down by over hype and incompetence. Will stay as hall mark of how not to do MMORPG

Summary: Its pretty good, but it could be better
Review: I have been playing this game for 2 days, I have a level 5 omni-tek soldier, and its pretty cool. Usually you kill things for XP and do missions for money. The whole game is about character developement, and its really fun. However, this game has some major flaws for instance the lag. The lag in the game is lag I have never seen before. I am talking about 4000 ping just when there is a group of people huddled together, its horrible. Usually you dont see that many people in the game and in fact, the game is so HUGE you dont see that many people. And when you do see a person in the game all they do is run by you like you are not even there. People in this game to not care that other people are in the game they just go on doing what they want to do and never care about talking or doing anything with others. But if you are bored with the MMORPGs we have out now, and have a very good modem or dont care about doing stuff with people either, get this game. Or else wait a couple months for the lag to get better.

Summary: A HUGE disapointment . . .
Review: Don't let the pretty graphics fool you--there is nothing here. It is as thought they made a nice graphics engine and then, lo and behold, decided to tack a MMPORPG onto it as an afterthought. The game is just plain shallow. After nearly 3 months, basic things like trade skills are still not implemented. Don't make the same mistake I did--stay far FAR away from this game!

Summary: Amazing game, horrible system
Review: I played this game once on a friends computer, and was astounded by the graphics, play time and style, and the variability of the game itself. I them bought the game... and have regretted it ever since. I have not been able to play, no matter how many times I download and install patches manually, Funcom support doesn't respond to any queries (they have no phone, and their e-mail system just sends back and automatic reply), and when I tried to unsubscribe from the service, the system wouldn't let me. It's been over a month, and I still can't get online.

Don't buy this game.

Summary: This game is extremely good
Review: This game has bad rating because of technical difficulties. Almost all of those difficulties are gone now, and look at the reviews, theyre all very old, many of the from the Beta Phases. Actually this game is very good, and they have over 70 000 customers already, and the game opened in late June. Its is a huge world, and extremely detailed.. You can explore for hundreds of hours, and find lots of new friends. Care less about negative OLD reviews and give this game a chance. See you on Rubi-Ka

Summary: Just plain horrible, in every regard
Review: I was in the beta...well...I never actually played in the beta because I could never get the game to work. Then I was dumb enough to buy the game...lol. After about a week of hair pulling, countless crashes to desktop, a few re installs, I actually got into the game and played..for about 10 minutes at a time or until I zoned and crashed to desktop. But these problems are covered in other reviews, let's get to the real problems.

1. BORING: Once you get past all the bugs, (if you can), you find out what the game is really all about. Well...not much. One of the main selling points for this game, is that camping would be eliminated by the "random missions generators". The key word here is RANDOM. Everything about this game is random and generic, and that's it's biggest downfall. There is no sense of purpose, no sense of direction, and no sense of accomplishment.
The missions all start to look the same after about the 10th one, and you'll be on hundreds of them if you ever want any cash. This also ties in to the lack of boss mobs, and lack of dungeons.
You fight mostly outdoors, or in the "missions". Which are randomly generated "dungeons". The implementation of which is absolutely horrible. Mobs are spawned with no ryhme or reason, some dungeons have ZERO mobs in them, some have 5 that will all rush you at zone it.

2. SERIOUS coding and engine problems: Not even going to go into all of these as they alone would take up the 1000 word limit on reviews, needless to say it's overwhelming.

3. Crashing, crashing, and more crashing: Self explainatory.

4. Character creation: Suppose to eliminate cookie cutter characters, but it doesn't. Sure, you can train anything you want, but because of the skill system, and the way the points you get to spend must be distributed to make your character viable, you end up with really only one path you can take per given proffesion.

5. Monster AI: The single WORST programming of AI I have ever seen in any video game...and that's saying a lot.

6. Exploits, cheats, hacks: By the time I left, which was under one month into release, there were already players that were level 150+. Being that this is a PvP game, that's not good. Exploits were RAMPANT and numerous. Exploiters went scott free.

7. Balance of proffesions: Non existant. The game is so unbalanced it's not even funny. There are 2 viable classes to play if you want to live PvP, forget it if you play any of the others.

Just a note about me. I'm an avid gamer, and have 3 characters over 50 in EQ, and 4 over 50 in AC. So I obviously have the patience for online gaming...lol.

This game fails in every single aspect of gameplay. It's boring, repetitive, buggy, unbalanced, and just plain no fun. Avoid at all costs, you have been warned.

Summary: I have played UO, EQ and AC...AO is the worst game ever.
Review: AO has manage to go backwards instead of forwards. Buggy...no support...nobody monitoring the boards. Just the other day they claim they accidently erased the Message boards..bull! There are so many negative comments on those boards, they had to erase them, altho if you go there now...its full again of negative comments. Don't buy or try this game. If you want to try a game that looks decent and has people who seem to care about the game...try DAoC (Dark Age of Camelot) [....]

STAY AWAY FROM ANARCHY-ONLINE!!!!

Summary: 2 Years?! Hello ;)
Review: I must say, I was greatly disappointed. P3 800, 256 meg, GeForce 2.. u n p l a y a b l e btw, on a cable connection. Move for 2 seconds, hard drive hits for 10.. There is no customer support. Did anyone miss out on the fact that they have been writing code for this for 2 years?! I'd be embarassed to say I had anything to do with it. Funcom said they.... who cares, they didn't make it right. I'm not paying for beta.. er alpha testing.. sure EQ started with problems, but they made it right. Funcom fell on their face. Thanks for nothing FC :/

Review: I hav played Everquest and i gotta tell u AO is a EQ killer!!i know that in the begining y had alot os flaws and bugs but noow is great and palyable. the difierence between EQ and AO is that in AO the newbie quests are good and the loot is great and in EQ the quests [aren't good] and the loot [isn't good] too , in AO the gameplay is more instresting than in EQ. Summary: The first Sci-Fi MMORPG, and it works!
Review: Let's be honest, the first three weeks of AO's release were miserable for players and, I would imagine, Funcom. Funcom spent an incredible amount of time making AO an enjoyable, playable product. The initial problems have been corrected, and aside from a few minor issues, the game is in a very playable state. When considering buying AO, keep the following in mind: First: This is *very* much a Sci-Fi game. You won't find any pixies or goblins, and aside from a rather beautifully rendered area called Avalon (Which contains Camelot), the majority of cities are futuristic. You can still hack and slash with melee weapons, but Funcom managed to make range weapons a viable choice for primary combat. Second: If you're looking for an update to UT or Half-Life, look elsewhere. This game is based in a persistent world, in which character development is the primary gauge of progress. Like other MMORPGs before it, much of the action and interaction with the world is text based. You'll still get plenty of adrenaline kicks if you get into it, but that's not the focus. Third: Unlike EverQuest, AO allows for very individualized characters and professions. You can, for example, play a Doctor that uses piercing weapons, specializes in jet piloting, and constructs heavy weapons as a trade skill. The old "Cookie-Cutter Syndrome" of EQ has been mitigated by Funcom's creative and well-implemented Improvement Points system. Finally: Anarchy Online is ***FUN*** . Unlike EverQuest, you won't spend 15 minutes in between each fight, or lose 10 hours of experience per death. If you specialize in treatment, you can heal yourself effectively, cutting back on downtime tremendously. Clearly, Funcom made AO to be a fast-paced game, rather than a mind-numbing dirge of repetitive tedium, a la EQ. AO is much more light-hearted and player-centered than EQ... You won't feel like there's a vengeful Dungeon Master trying to ruin your gaming experience at all costs. AO has its problems, but in light of other games in the genre, it is a solid game with definite staying power. Don't hesitate to try it out!
