Summary: Grief Killing and Misery Destroys a Great Game System
Review: I once loved this game; it was an Everquest without all of EQ's frustrating points and with a better background. I found myself playing it more than any other game I've ever been involved in.

But in the two months since release I have watched it go from a true joy to a griefers paradise. A month into the game my teen level character was making her first foray into the frontier, hunting fierce monsters and facing occasional onslaughts from the rival realms in some incredible PVP battles. Now that area is empty, as anyone fool enough to set foot in it is one shot killed by an unseen sniper 10 or 20 levels above them--many of whom have found ways to exploit the game system so as to cause XP loss. The once noble battles between the realms have been taken over by rudeness, exploitation of game bugs, and sickening sociopathic behavior. The company is unable to fix the bugs and unwilling to condemn anti-social behavior.

Two months after game release, play had become a chore. I had no ability to fight the griefers from other realms because the preferred tactic was to attack only lower level characters. And no respect for many of my "comrades" who had turned to the same sick behavior. It felt like the dark days of Ultima Online's "dread lord" period. But unlike then, we have other choices, and I've moved back to Everquest. EQ may have problems, but I've never seen an Everquest player defending an emote "/em urinates on the dead corpse of an enemy" as valid roleplaying.

That's the griefer mentality that's destroyed DAOC for me.

Summary: Has good potential
Review: I am not a hardcore player- I only have lv21 and lv19 characters after a month of play. I like the game much better than AC. It is very condusive of a social atmosphere, and the realm vs realm aspect does promote community. Also the guild structure is very nice. The developers are in contact with the player base much more than any other MMORPG I've seen. Realize that the game is still unfinished- a lot of class abilities have not been implemented and the abilities that are in game are still being tweaked. If you are looking for a solo experience you will not like this game. You will get ganked on the frontier, but its not a big deal. Anyway, I like the game and I like the commitment the developer is showing towards it.

Summary: This game IS Everquest.
Review: I am more than a bit angry there was no warning that this game uses the SAME engine as Everquest. Chat is the same, graphics are the same, game play is the same pretty much everything is Everquest all over again. True Everquest players, (people who no longer live in what we call "reality") May argue that this one is different. Trust me. It's the same game. Changing the maps and a few rules doesn't make it something new.

Summary: Excellent Game... If you have the time!
Review: This is the first MMRPG that I've ever played, so I am not going to make the standard "this is ripped from EQ, AC, AO" ad nauseum. I'm a big fan of Arthurian legends, and a big gamer, so I thought that I'd give this game a try. I have not been disappointed with what I've seen thus far.

First off, MMOGs like WWII Online turned me off to the genre, but DAOC has renewed my faith. WWIIOL's graphics were laughable at best. The graphics in DAOC are not bad. They're not the most amazing I've ever seen, but they serve the purpose of the game very well. Some of the effects are even decently impressive. The bottom line on this issue is I think the dev team decided to not overly wow us with the graphics, but with the gameplay.

Secondly, the game allows both for solo combat and for grouping. I've done both with great ease. In grouping, be wary though, good groups can be hard to come by. Get a group with good chemistry, however, and you can level your character like mad! In about 6 hours of playing have taken a Paladin from start to Lvl 9 in good groups.

System-wise I have an Athlon 550, 256MB RAM, and Geforce 256 Vid card, and the game works fine for me. There are parts when it is choppy, like in heavily populated areas (Camelot city), but other than that it runs very smoothly.

I've heard complaints about the experience loss system, complaining about purchasing back constitution, etc. This can be somewhat of a pain, but it is possible to gain half of the experience lost by praying at the point where you died. The upside is that you don't drop any of your items when you die, so your character cannot be looted.

The major downside I see to this game is the fact that it is very time consuming. This is not a complaint, however. It should be time consuming to fully develop a character in a RPG. Also, leveling your character can be much easier if you know the right spots to hunt for your level, or group well. This is a caution though, if you don't have much time to play games, you won't get very far in this one.

Overall, I have extremely enjoyed the game. There are elements I would like to see added, and I have been assured they are working on them. Give it a shot!

Summary: Not all that
Review: I have been out of the MMORPG world since I hung up my UO account in 1999 after two years of play. When I first started with UO, I couldn't put it down. It enthralled me, ensnared me, and I found myself spending every available moment building my characters into Grand Masters.

This game has been completely unable to do that for me. I find myself mindlessly hacking a few monsters, not really caring either way, and eventually walking cross country for hours trying to find something interesting to do. Oh, and did I mention that technical support doesn't exist? Yeah, they have this thing called "petition" for when you have a problem with the game... No one EVER answers it.

It's to the point that I can't imagine anyone enjoying this game beyond the mild amusement of having pretty pictures flash across the screen and cheap chatroom-style conversations with fellow players. Bah...

I bought this game based on Gamespot's rating of "SUPERB". Frankly, I've got no idea what they were thinking.

Summary: if you have nothing but time.
Review: The reason i bought this game was to experience the team based PvP (realm vs realm) The only problem is that if you dont play 8-12 hours a day there is no point in going to the pvp aspect because you wont be able to kill anyone. When i first started out they said you should be level 15 before you go pvp, then it was level 20, now im hearing level 30. If you have the time this would be a really cool game.

Summary: Never thought a role playing game would get someone like me
Review: When I was growing up, D & D and all those other RPGs were really popular with the "nerds" of the school. When one of my friends started to play EverQuest, I wondered how someone could get so addicted to a game. Well, a good friend of mine got two copiesof DAoC, and gave one to me. Needless to say, now I am addicted to it. You can do just about anything, being a great fighter, a healer, an expert craftsman/woman, or if you have enough time, you can do all of the above. The graphics are incredible (went out and bought a new graphics card just for the game) the sound is also very realistic (surround sound for the computer is my next buy. I have the normal two front speakers, and it still sounds like sometimes the attacks are actually coming from behind me). If you have ever wondered what online game to buy, I would suggest this game to anyone. You will more likely than not get addicted to it, but why not get addicted to something that is not going to kill you? Keeps me out of trouble, and it is a very cheap form of entertainment. This is a must buy in my mind.

Review: this game is so amazing! it absolutely crushes other mmorpgs! it's so realistic and the people in it are very friendly! it takes a little time to adjust to the system but once you do, you'll love it! the system also adjusts to your level as you play more and gain more levels!

Summary: Everquest II
Review: So far I am pleased with Dark Age of Camelot, however I don't know if it will be able to "suck me in" the way Everquest did several years ago.

The interface for DAoC is excellent and will be very familiar to EQ players, which makes for an easy transition.

Something about the game (that I haven't quite figured out yet) discourages open chat, so if one of your complaints about EQ was the inane banter happening in many zones, there appears to be less of that here.

The graphics/animation/sound are fantastic.

There are some neat things built in to prevent camping, to prevent higher levels from killing lower level creatures, to keep newbies safe, etc.

I like it enough that I am going to stick with it for awhile.
