Rating: Summary: Icewind Dale Review: Great game. finally someone lets me make my own party of six instead of making me do with one character and a silly story.Talk about replayability, If i didn't get the party right the first time, I can recreate and do it again
Rating: Summary: Beautiful story. Definantly RPG game Review: Although IWD doesn't have the state of the art graphics and stuff, this is a great RPG game for people who prefer to do more that just hack and slash. The storyline, though kinda short, it still good. In many cases, the game awards you for NOT killing, but trying to talk your way out of situations, capturing the true essence of RPG. Even though I don't think IWD can compare to Baldur's Gate in terms of size, number of quests and all, it is still a good game in itself.
Rating: Summary: Very fun game, surprisingly replayable, but bug-ridden Review: I've had this game for about three months now and have only now reached the point of getting tired with it. It's basically Advanced Dungeons & Dragons on your computer. You create a party of up to 6 characters, who can be different classes: fighters, clerics (priests), magic users, thieves, and so on. You can equip them with different weapons, learn different spells, and so on. Then you go and kill a bunch of monsters. The tougher the monster is, the more experience you get. As you get more experience, you rise in level and become more powerful -- you are harder to kill, you find it easier to hit opponents, you can learn more numerous and more powerful spells, and so on. The game is linear, so it's the same each time you play it. Still, there's enough variation in the different character classes that playing it again isn't as boring as you might think. I started with a party of 5, won, tried a party of 4, won, tried a party of 3, won, and tried a party of 1, and won. (I did cheat a bit on the party of 1 by arming him with the best armor and weapons that I'd come across in earlier games -- the game lets you cheat like that.) Note, however, that the game is VERY bug-ridden. It's crashed dozens of different times, and some of the bugs can't be fixed simply by rebooting. There is a patch available for the game, but it does not solve all of the problems (and may cause others). It is imperative that players of this game check one of the available websites devoted to "Icewind Dale" for technical assistance. Otherwise, the game is fast-paced, addictive, and has great graphics.
Rating: Summary: Power Gamers unite! Review: Hello, I just wanted to say that I haven't found a computer like the one in years -- one that I *make* time in my busy to schedule to play, that I play all the time, that I think about when I'm not playing... it's wonderful. It's the kind of AD&D I really love -- not having to bother with some author's notion of a good plot, it's as Minsc would say "Swords, not words!" This game is an excellent choice if you're favorite place to strategize is on the battlefield. You'll fight so many satisfying battles and have many chances to test out next tactics -- it's an AD&D general's dream. Don't miss it, it's like Eye of the Beholder with souped-up graphics, and so much more depth.
Rating: Summary: Don't Miss This One! Review: After my 3 months spent with Baldur's Gate I was desperate for another game that would consume me in the same way. I searched desperately and bought many that I loaded on my computer, played for a few minutes then un-installed... disappointed. Not so with Icewind Dale! The only complaint I have is that it is very time consuming to go back to areas you already left (there are only certain places you can move to different areas). Other than that... I have never been so mad, intrigued, happy, pi**ed off, TERRIFIED, or challenged the way I was with ID. It took me about 3 weeks of CONSTANT game playing to finish the game (although the ending is kind of cheesy) and I was left (once again) wanting more. Although it will probably be a long time before I go through the whole game again, it will be one I keep for years. If you want a game that challenges your mind AND keeps you entertained, Icewind Dale will fix you right up.
Rating: Summary: Serving up a party of 6 Review: I just finished IWD, it kept me busy for 2 months. This a very flexible game, allowing you many choses on the type of party that you wish to play with. I found the beginning of the game very easy. If you are familiar with RPG's then you should have no trouble putting together a party that will last you throughout the game, avoiding false starts. The game is called a dungeon crawl. Meaning that there is more action and less story than you find in other RPG's. However there is a story and will keep you amused as you find out what is going on. There is also a few surprise villians. This game is well worth buying, you will get many hour of entertainment from it.
Rating: Summary: [none] Review: When baldur's gate came out,it was the rage. Now Icewind Dale out and it a improment...in some ways. Firstof all, the max hit point points per level, the salvation from relaoding that plagued Baldur's Gate. The next major thing, well Minsc said it better than I can: "Less talk, more fight". There is an amazing large amount fighting in Icewind Dale, by the time you make it to Kuldahar, all should at least at level two or or the brink of two or three; in baldur's gate the main charater was at level two until at least Nashkel! All the new spells are nice but you only one level seven spell and the rest are all just scrolls. One of the most annoying things is throught th e game you reloading because your charater are dying. People are how have played Icewind Dale but have Played Baldur's Gate are thinking no problem I'll just recuit more. Wrong, you create you whole party. Anyway, this eventually stops when your druid/cleric leans animate dead. Overall this game is worth playing.
Rating: Summary: Step one-BG, Two-TSC, Three - IWD, Four- BG2... Review: This game rocks. What more can really be said? Time was taken to create realism in the form of environment... lush surroundings and detailed 'monsters'. This makes for a very enjoyable 'romp' in an adventure that you're nomally forced to only read about. Try it, you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: BUY THIS GAME NOW! YOU WONT REGRET IT! Review: Ill have to admit Im an avid Sci-Fi and fantasy geek. However, as far as my gaming tastes go, I usually play first person shooters. This all changed the day Icewind Dale was released! I shifted uncomfortably as I forked over my money to buy a game that was in a genre I usually could care less about. The one catch that brought me to this title in the first place was the name itself Icewind Dale. Those of you who have read the RA Salvatore books know what Im talking about! And I admit totally, once I loaded the game up I was swept into an obsession that had me playing every night for the first 2 weeks after I bought the game. The higher points of the game are the beautiful background art and the music. The art was painstakingly molded to provide that desolate snowdrifted emptiness that the games title implies. And the dungeons themselves give the player that creepy feeling in the stomach when emininent danger is approaching. The music, in my opinion, is nothing short of AMAZING. These lovely tunes sweep you up into a world of mystery that every RPG should try to emulate. The gameplay, though clunky sometimes, was excellent as well. The ability to plan out your moves while paused gave a good mix of turnbased and real time strategy. Sure the technology is a bit behind the times, but who cares Im now( after playing this game) a firm believer in the idea that a game need not be cutting edge to provide a good experience! As for what else I have to say about this title: BUY IT NOW! YOU WONT REGRET IT!
Rating: Summary: Phenomenal... Review: There's no other way to describe this RPG. It is excellent in nearly every way. The graphics are breathtaking, the music is inspiring, and the plot is great. As for the length of the game, it will take you at least as long to finish as Baldur's Gate, but instead of wandering about endless wilderness you'll be seeing things that are a LOT more interesting. You get far more experience than in BG as well, which means faster leveling up (which you will need). The monsters are detailed and include some of the biggest (and toughest) AD&D entities. Spells have been expanded to the 7th level, with a few findable scrolls of 8th and 9th level spells. All of the spells have been redone from BG's rather repetitive graphics, making spellcasting a great deal of fun even though most of it is similar. The thing that surprised me most of all was the multiplay. Baldur's Gate was notorious for crashing and massive lag problems when played on a slow connection, but this game runs as if you're playing by yourself when you're using a 56k modem! Load times, ever a pain in BG, have been reduced drastically. I'm rather astonished that they managed to fit all this onto only 2 CDs. On that note, you only need one CD to play, so no more swapping either. My only complaint is that the game resolution is stuck at the old 640x480, supposedly because 800x600 is reserved for BG2. At any rate, GET THIS GAME. You will not regret it.
