Rating: Summary: Too Hard Review: This game has excellent graphics and sound. It's fun at first, but then choosing tons of options andd stuff gets really tedious. I don't reccomend this game.
Rating: Summary: The standard for RPG game brought to the PC! Review: I enjoyed the first Baldur's Gate but I was shocked with the sequel! I had no idea that they had improved upon the game so dramatically. If you're not familiar with the Baldur's Gate series, the games are adaptations of the popular role playing game, Dungeons and Dragons. If you're not knowledgeable of Dungeons and Dragons rules, the game may be frustrating at times, but once you've learned the format, this game is one of the most enjoyable RPGs on the PC ever.Games such as the Ultima series attempted to create a universe that wrapped up the player in a new world. Many have failed in recent years but Baldur's Gate II is one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I have ever had. Set in a realm of dragons and wizards, you control a character through a set of chapters meanwhile completing quests, picking up adventurers to join you, discovering new magical items and figuring out puzzles. New elements of interaction between your party members (love affairs, arguments, etc.) have been included in the sequel to give it a sense of realism. The sequel has also adapted itself in a more efficient way to keep track of your many quests and storylines. The Baldur's Gate world offers your character the chance to be good or evil with alternative missions, reponses, party members and other things available to allow you the chance to role play the game as you'd like. Great features such as inserting your own audio files for your character or playing online with other players are allowed. This game is the standard for RPG titles and you'd have to play an online fantasy game to wrap yourself in a world with more role playing options than this one.
Rating: Summary: Total Sweetness Review: This game totaly rocks. With all the spells and weapons there are to master how can any one go wrong a game like this
Rating: Summary: This is Very Cool with Few Flaws. Review: Balder's Gate 2 is definaly a really cool game. I am a D&D player, and though I play 3rd Edition, I still see that this is a really cool game. There are so many things to do, and I love the way everything affects some of the story. Also, I love the way they allow you to create your VERY OWN character. There are a few problems, like the game freezes up after playing for a long time (you will be playing a long time, and I have a new computer, only a year old). Occaisionally it seems to take too long to level up, and there is not as much to do when you level up, unlike I would have expected from my D&D experiance. Other than that, though, there is really no problems with BG2. It is a well rounded, fully engaging game. I probably should have given it 5 stars, but I kinda expect it to be PERFECT for me to do that. Anyway, if you're thinking about buying it, you probably should. I had the same thoughts myself, but I'm VERY glad I bought it. Yo.
Rating: Summary: It's not for everyone Review: I've played several rpgs over the years from Prince of Persia, Shining Wisdom, Grandia II to Diablo 2 and Everquest, all to the end or very high levels. I read a lot of BG 2 reviews praising it and decided to try it. Having never played any type of D&D games before I found it impossible to jump into this game and get started, right from the first step of character creation where you will have no idea what to do if you haven't done D&D things before. The tutorial was slightly helpful but more than anything it proved to me how dorky and clunky the interface is. The manual is again pretty useless for actually learning to play the game, though it seems to be full of cute stories. I still have no idea how to pick the best weapons for my characters. The combat is just bad, if you can even figure out at the beginning how to manage four players all at the same time without hitting pause every 2 seconds, then you get to watch some really jerky action where your little characters with lousy graphics are mostly hacking at air. The spells are interesting enough but the system for managing them and pressing the sleep button randomly to regenerate them) is horrible. There's no way to tell how tough a monster is without just attacking it and seeing if it dies. There are just bizarre things (apparently D&D) like golems can only be attacked with blunt weapons. And these are just the tip of the iceberg of my experience with the game. So in the end there are hundreds if not thousands of little details to keep track of, an interface that still feels incredibly clunky after I've been trying to play it for 6 months, poor control in general, bad combat with dorky looking characters (with lag and bugs such as freezes even on my 1.4 Mhz Geforce-2 video card machine) and a story that has refused to get me involved with it's stupid dialogue. All this despite me chipping away at it for 6 months just because so many people seem to like it. So I would never recommend it to anyone other than maybe hardcore D&D people who already know those systems. Even then I don't understand why they'd like it with much more playable games out there.
Rating: Summary: Complications Review: When I first opened up the box i was excited and abosolutely horrified. Before me I saw A massive instruction manual. Ive been playing games quite a while, and none have compared to this massive block of depth. Althouhg it was obvious I wasnt going to read throuhg the whole thing, eventually thruohg time I did, which surprised the hell out of me. I had gotten well into the game and was still learning small things that improved my experience just a little more. I was definately satisfied that this game has a depth like no other, seriously. I mean it is an entire world for gods sake! Although i was looking for this kind of thing, some might find it a little overwhelming, but trust me it is well worth your time, So go ahead and buy it, youll be able to tell if youll like it right off, when you notice all the different [stuff] you can do when designing your character. Trust me, this game is absolutely fantastic, even if overwhelming at the beginning.
Rating: Summary: the best game ive ever played Review: i decided to write this when i saw that the average customer review was less than 5 stars. this is the best game i've ever played and other peoples comments as to how it is filled with subquests and nothing else have never passed act 2. the amount of replay value in this game more than triples that of any other game i have played, including BG 1. Buy this game. It is a different game every time you play with a different class or alignment.
Rating: Summary: Unless you have a high-end computer, then don't even bother. Review: I don't think this game is that bad, because it's not. But if you don't have a high-end computer, like me, then your definently gonna have a frustrating time. I tried as hard as I could, but no matter how much I configured the game, I still got slowdown. My computer isn't [bad] at all, it works just fine for me on just about every game. But besides that, the game still has a fair share of problems. First of all, whats the point of leveling up when all you get for it is a few Hit Points???? Second, the battles are boring and slow. Half the time you'll be hitting nothing but air against your enemys. Third, wheres the freedom here?? All you do is get more and more quests CONSTANTLY. You'll find yourself having like 15 quests to do in a very short amount of time. Theres not much exploration in this game either. I thought you would get to travel around but all you get to do is click on a city or something and your there. The graphics aren't great either. Putting the resolution on 800x600 just makes things more difficult to see. Character models [are bad] too. And speaking of characters, theres hardly any character portraits in the game so expect to see a lot of people with the same face as you. The sound is quite lame also. You here the same battle music over and over and over... gets very annoying. The voices are okay, but hearing a guy saying... "Hey Boo"" for the thousandth time gets a little out of control. So in the end, the game definently wasnt what I thought it would be, since I heard so many great things about it, but honestly, I would still be playing it if I didn't get so much slowdown. So like I said, if you don't have a high end computer then just stay away.
Rating: Summary: Really one of the best RPG I ever played Review: This game is really dangerous. My hours of sleep has dramatically reduced. My books lie abandoned on the ground and are going to wait for me till I finished BG2.
Rating: Summary: Guys, and gals too, this game rocks. Review: Alright, this game can be summed up in about two words. Kick A**. I am the type of gamer who was into the gory shoot em up game style, were the action was fast and the plot was non existant. Plus i thought that D&D was stupid. Holy crap was i wrong. This game is by far the best i have ever played and can honestly say that its beter than any shooter on the market. The plot is so thick you can cut it with a knife, the plot twists totaly surprising and amasing, and none of the recycled story crap which is killing the gaming industry. While this is a pretty serious game its not all strong but silent knight in shining armor(or evil knight in blood soaked armor, your choise) but there are some truly amusing peices here too. Don't be surprised if eventualy you start to take a little bit of a liking to your character and crew. So any how, if you are looking for a good, plot driven game, that is new and exiting I can garauntee as a hardcore gamer, that this is one of the best. buy it now!!
