Summary: Great Game
Review: My friends with PlayStations say it is much better on their systems, but I have really enjoyed this game.

I recommend to all car racing and Unreal/Quake fans.

Summary: Crude, immature, low class?
Review: This game has to be the crudest game ever made, I think the last game that was this bad was redneck rampage, this game has way too much mindless violence, which I guess apeals to simple minds, no plot, and gameplay which goes nowhere, I was so bored after an hour of playing this I poped in Max Payne and stated to re-play it after beating it. I would pass on this one, get HitMan 2 instead, at least that game does not stink as bad as this.

Summary: Excellent game
Review: It seems that people writing negative reviews about this game fall into 1 of 2 categories:

1) Those who have never played a console game port and
2) The "holier than thou" types, who .... in their pants at the thought of video game violence

To those in the first category, the solution to your whining is simple: don't buy GTA3 expecting a PC game. Yes, the graphics are way nicer compared to the PS2 version, but the game is still a console game deep down inside - hence the absence of saving wherever and whenever you want.
That said, I'm glad GTA3 PC is true to its console predecessor, as the game would have been way too easy if players were allowed to save anytime. If you don't like console games, don't kid yourself - GTA3 is not for you.

The second category should just refrain from buying games in general, and instead stick to Martha Stewart specials and Barbie video games. You might also be interested to know that Rockstar was aware of people like you before the game was even released (three words: Pogo the Monkey).

This said, there is something inherently excellent about being able to play GTA3 without having to turn on your Playstation 2. Graphics in this version are nothing short of incredible - even though the requirements are a little high, with a good video card (GeForce4) and a Pentium 3, you can get good results. Sound has also been improved, and even though I will probably never use this option, you can add your own MP3's to create a radio station all your own.

For those unfamiliar with the game, check out the reviews for the PS2 version - the game is a very faithful port (even some of the glitches, hehe). The story is very well written, and I think the tagline one of the magazines used suits this game very well ("A mafioso masterpiece"). Even after having played GTA: Vice City I find GTA3 no less interesting and captivating - it's a different game every time. The city is teeming with life, and the radio stations alone are worthy of an award.

I will conclude this by saying that if there ever was a reason to buy a Playstation 2, GTA3 is it.

Summary: You against the world
Review: I have heard a lot of things about this game, most of it violence worries. ... But if you are a fan of action, violence, strong language, mature themes, and most of all carjackings, I recommend this game as a great stress-reliever. Just don't go killing anyone... and besides that, let the shells fly gamers!

Summary: You against the world
Review: Great game, nothing better than cracking open a Coke while lobbing thousands of M16 rounds into cop vehicles. This game is fun when you start of but becomes boring when you must repeat missions 4-5 times. But levels aren't everything, huge 3-d levels to explore or destroy, because you can play areas eith no objectives, that's right, you make the rules. Still the violence is a little extreme, but this game kicks ...!

Summary: Who can resist stealing a hot car and mowing down innocents?
Review: GTA3 is possibly the most fun game on the market today: for the first 8 billion times. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game with wonderful plot twists and stunning graphics, but after a while, it can REALLY get boring. After you've done the first half, the second half is essentialy the same missions in a different order; bomb this, steal that, kill them. But one thing overshadows all that: The sprawling design of Liberty City. Only one word can describe it: unbelievable. You don't know true fun until you drive a flaming car off one of Liberty City's 3 bridges and explode in mid-air, possibly taking down a chopper in the process. A must have for action fans

Summary: Fun No Matter What You Do
Review: This is a great game no matter what you do. The free movement element in this game is wonderful. After completing the first required mission which takes about two minutes it is up to you to decide what you want it to do, and you can complete the missions at your own leisure.
Another wonderful part of this game is the radio. It gives you the option of listening to any of the premade radio stations or you can make your own, this adds a great deal of feel and realism to the game.
However I do agree with the M rating. The sexual elements and violence in this game is strong, and you should be very mature to play this game. Otherwise buy this game and start jacking all the cars you want to.

Summary: Just plain overrated
Review: Grand Theft Auto is full of potential, but gives way to dumb missions and almost too real violence.

The game offers missions where you can earn money. Between missions, you can wonder around and kill people for money. Nothing all that original here, but the game is well done and the scenery very good.

Gameplay was fine on my P4 2.53. Cars and trucks were realistic, visualizations where well done.

That's where the fun stopped for me. Some missions take a while and many tries to complete. Because the game lacks a decent save feature, you waste a ton of time. This gets really dull after the fourth and fifth tries.

I have no real problem with violence. Games like Doom and Unreal were fun because of the cool weapons and the weird monsters. For me, GTA takes it to a too real place - killing humans on the street for fun. The missions were fine, but the random killing of hundreds of people for money got old quick. For some reason, I'd rather kill fake monsters than things that are very close to people.

Overall, decent but overrated. Feels like a PS2 game, is a PS2 game. I expect a better story and more fun out of a PC game.
