Rating: Summary: What's good and bad Review: I will try and keep this short and to the point. Basicly Morrowind has 3 good things about it and 3 bad things. See if any of the good things are what you want in an RPG game beore you buy it.1. Freedom at last: Many games (in fact all games that I've played) have a victory or game end. Morrowind doesn't have an end. In fact there isn't anything you HAVE to do (the main quest is optional.) You can do ANYTHING you want to. 2. Steal all you want: You can take anything you want! From stealing stuff in containers to "liberating" items off people. The only real hard part is not getting caught. 3. Interaction: You can talk to any character in the game (note that people who want to kill you will not talk.) You can ask people for directions and information. You can talk to them about something in general (like the latest rumors) or somthing more directed (like "do you know anyone with this name.") The 3 maybe 1 or 2 bad things are whatever you don't like about the 3 good things. Enjoy the game (if you want it.)
Rating: Summary: a game of infinite depth Review: i am an rpg gamer by heart, i have played many rpgs, and this is the best one i played. i also avidly awaited NWN and it didnt work( teleportation problem, which bioware has not fixed), and so i bought morrowind, and i must say, it is stunning, in me ways than just visually. i run a low end system(p3 500 mz, gf2 mx, 320 mb ram) and the game runs fine. i do not know what the people who are saying it is running bad on anythig low end are talking about. the graphics are the best i have seen in a game, you make it unto a hill and look down and see trees rising out of fog, and animals and cities all around you, its breathtaking.the true beatuy of the game is with its gameplay.my friend recently asked me what do u do in this game, i said, i dont know, what ever you want, and i am serious about that. i have been playing for many many hours(lost track) and still havnt even touched the main plot line, i havnt been bored once. the leveling system and character creation screen are very creative, and i enjoyed how they put them into the game the way they did. books are everywhere and a lot of the time raise a skill. people are everywhere, and there is always something to do. for a true Rpg'r i reccommend this game, for people who enjoy ames like diablo 2( i certainly didnt) then this isnt a game for you, anybody looking for a real gaming excperience, buy this game.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful! Review: If you have a minute to spare while you're running around doing missions, stop and look up. The graphics in this game are beautiful. The sky is fantastic and you can sit and watch it change from night to day. I was also impressed with the variables that the game allows for. You can do anything. You can follow quests given by certain people or make a name for youself. It is paradise for any ex-Thief players. You can steel everything. I would recommend this game to anyone.
Rating: Summary: A game that offers you a whole WORLD. Review: If you are reading this you have probably read a whole lot of other reviews so I will be short. The graphics and sounds are truly awesome, the music is inspiring, but you will need a good computer to run the game. The RPG system is fun and innovative. Well, not really innovative, but I hadn't seen anything like this. The thing however, is that the game simply offers you a world to explore. You can go ANYWHERE, enter ANY door, swim, breath underwater, fly, jump a mile in the sky, be a hero, be a thief, be a mage, be a villian, be a soldier, be a nobleman or just a mere peasant. You can dress your character, make your own spells, you can do ANYTHING. The problems arising from all that are minor. I had never seen a game that offers that much freedom. I totally reccomend it over NWN. The game is plain good. EDIT: I just finished it. The main quest I mean, the game is endless. 2 thumbs up! Best RPG since BG2. Actually best ALONG with BG2 and Fallout2. I will suggest swift buying ;-).
Rating: Summary: Great game and great fun Review: This game is probably the penultimate game of ever. I have played hundreds and hundreds of games, but this one takes the cake. You can go where you want, do what you want, and reap the reward or the ramifications. If you get bored with one story line, pick up another. If you get bored with that one, go back to the first one, or pick up another one. It's all up to you. The graphics are great, (would be better without the fog) and the story is a little shallow, (you will understand just who you are from the first few hours of play) but rich with detail. I strongly reccommend this game.
Rating: Summary: Something New Around Every Corner Review: PC Role-Playing Games have come a long way since the beginning of the Ultima seriest (et al). For the longest time, from beginning to end you followed the designers' script and plotline and any deviation from it usually meant that bad things were going to happen. Morrowind is, thus far, the ultimate in non-linear computer RPGs. There IS a main plotline for you to participate in that is of the designers' creation...but it is possible to play this game forever without so much as participating in this plotline and delving into one of the MANY sub-plots of the game. You want to do your own thing and touch on this plotline when you feel like it? This is your game. Your character can be anything you want it to be. The major divisions in character types are: Combat, Stealth, and Magic. These are just very basic archetypes. You can take one of their pre-made classes or completely customize your own. Want a caster who is an expert with an axe? Sure. Want a warrior in the heaviest of armors who can turn himself invisible? Go ahead. The only thing to take into consideration in this game is that there is no real way to avoid all combat (melee or magical). Your character can't be a pacifist. Beyond that, your character is whatever you want it to be. Always something to do here - NEVER a boring moment. Wander a bit and you'll bump into a crypt or a dungeon. Or join a Guild or House and get missions (sub-plots) to participate in that way. Join several Guilds if you like. Just be aware that one Guild's mission might conflict with another. This game is SO much more than the central plotline, a statement which cannot be made about just any game. So if you're a PC RPG enthusiast, if you like fantasy games but don't want run-of-the-mill you'll love Morrowind.
Rating: Summary: Prepare to spend less time with loved ones.. Review: Now I'm not a huge RPG fan, I prefer simulations most of the time. However something on the box just grabbed my attention. Could the game really be as cool as the box says. Well, yes it is, and then some. First off the scenery is top notch, and they actually created a vast and completely virtual world. The world you travel in is filled with the little quirks that still continue to surprise me. Day turns to night, and you can actually look up in the night sky and see the stars slowly passing overhead until the sun begins to rise over a mountain or the ocean in the backround. Along with that there is a constant and believable weather system. You could just get a light rain or be smack in the middle of a thunder storm. Also in certain areas you could get stuck in a "blight" storm, which is kind of like a dust/sand storm. Although the best part of the game is that you can do whatever it is you want, and the area you play in gives you plenty to do if you choose to ignore the main storyline. You want to go and slap around some smugglers, go for it. You want to go raid some tombs, fine. If you really feel like it, you can even go diving for pearls in the ocean. Along with that, there is almost always a quest or two you can do in one of the many towns you can visit. Then you can always go back to the main quest any time you feel like it. The only real problems with the game is that it is a bit of a system hog, and your relationships with friends and family will definatly suffer. If only they could understand. Anyway, this game is a must buy for people into first person RPGs. You just may want to wait until a Friday before you start playing it though because it's going to take a lot to tear you away from it.
Rating: Summary: WHY Are You Playing This Game? Review: ... Morrowind is NOT a hack and slash CRPG like Diablo or Dungeon Siege, and it was never intended to be like those games. Morrowind is primarily an adventure game, and as one, it sets a new standard for the genre. The goal of this game is not to wear out your thumb hacking and slaying, the goal of this game is to allow a gamer to step into a massive world filled with adventure and places to explore, ruins to wander in, items to examine... to learn, to test, and to enjoy the game for many weeks, if not MONTHS. The game is not designed to be over in 20-40 hours of gameplay. Morrowind is simply an incredible accomplishment. I play the game an hour or so a day to relax, and expect to be doing so for a long time. It seems as if every region I enter has a hundred new things to try out and explore - its not just hack and slay and run errands, there are real stories here that play themselves out if you invest the time and effort. Yes, it is easy to get lost - but good. And yes, your character grows strong and doesn't die a lot unless you do something stupid - but you're not supposed to die a lot in this game. Killing lizards is not the goal, unraveling storyline after storyline is. And in this, the game is awesome, and well worth the pricetag. I doubt if any game I own can return as much gaming bang for buck as this game does!
Rating: Summary: Starts slow; great middle; slow ending Review: Starts off very slow (weak monsters kill you easily; you have to rest all the time and worst of all, you literally move like a snail). Then, the midgame is very addictive -- it's great to feel the effects of increased skills, new items and exploring. The world is quite expansive. Unfortunately, you're too powerful by the end. You can run at ridiculous speeds, ignore the damage of almost every monster and quests seem like chores. I'm not a fan of purely skill-based experience. Jump up and down 1000 times and you go up a level (because your Acrobatics increases by ten). Umm ... ok. Whatever. Also the combat engine is poor. You can scarcely tell at what point of a swing you'll get hit (making hit-and-run tactics almost impossible), and area-of-affect attacks like fire or cold look the same whether or not you're hit; you have to keep an eye on your life meter. Yes, as other reviewers have stated, it's buggy, but the console lets you work around some of that. And some are nit-picking. And some are real bugs. If you can get over an imperfect piece of software, you'll find it to be a good gaming experience, with some decent ideas. Also, you MUST buy the hintbook or read the online forums -- there are too many people and quests to keep track of and too many locations you will find nearly impossible to track down. And USE THE CONSOLE -- there are some bugs that prevent the completion of quests otherwise. Note: I'm not a hardcore gamer, my perspective is just as an occasional video gamer and RPGer.
Rating: Summary: you need time for this great game! Review: This is a great game . With a strong pc and lots of time you will be glad you made the purchse ..... bottom line !
