Summary: Magic Online too Expensive? No - Its Cheap!
Review: Many here say that magic Online is a great game, but unfortunatly its too expensive. How ca that be? Finally you can make a living playing magic. Drafting in Boosterdrafts cost you appx. 12$ to get started but if you are anything but a newbie to Magic, you can go a long way by selling the drafted cards, getting you to next booster draft and setting some of the cards aside from every draft. Id say that in comparision to playing Magic in real life, you can come VERY far with an investment of say... 25 $. For my 12$ I still play drafts, you only need to get used to selling the Rares that only takes unwanted space in your collection... GG Magic... Good Game Wizards of the Coast!

Summary: What an INCOMPLETE CD
Review: Now normaly when you buy an online game thats supposed to be a full version, you have expectations of playing that game soon after installing it. Well i must say that i installed this game in the late morning and I am STILL DOWNLOADING files and updates that are an apparent requirement FIVE HOURS later! For all of us that still are in the unfortunate dark age of dial up modems, the phone bill is going to be more expensive then the game is! And i havent even played it yet! If they plan on so many updates for a game that KNOWS it will require them, WotC should constantly send out new UPDATED CD's so that an entire day doesnt have to go by just to start playing a game. So to all those people out there that have dial up like myself, either switch to DSL or cable now or just dont bother with Magic Online. People are complaining about spending money on online cards, im complaining about spending more money on the game itself than i have to!

Summary: What the hell were they thinging?
Review: OK Granted it's fun it's easy to find somebody to play with but what about thoses long hard hours of staring down decklists to create that perfect deck? The feeling of hunger cause you saved your lunch money to make a trip to the local card convention IE Frank & Sons if you know what i'm tlaking about but still. Making players "BUY" cards online as well as irl? Wut the hell they are just using this as a market stat to get noobs hooked on it

Summary: Quite Possibly The Most Expensive Game You Will Ever Buy
Review: Only people with an access to a credit card and a willingness to use it should buy this game. You probably also should be familiar with the game or be willing to spend.

The biggest advantage is that you can play this game anytime you want and there are no longer rules questions since the interface won't let you play a card illegally. ... Unfortunately, you have to pay tax on everything you buy online . With all the good accountants in the world, I don't know how Hasbro could have let this happen.

However, I hear that if you win the tournament, you do get a prize, so it is a bit like gambling.

If you don't want to pay money each time you play, you can go to the casual play area. They even have a setup for multi-player games like emperor and 4 way.

They also have forums for trading cards online.

An excellent interface for playing Magic. You can now play 24x7. With the software, you get a credit for creating an account. After that, you have to buy online card packs.

You can also play some pre-made mono-colored decks in the practice area without buying cards.

To play cheaply in the casual area, you can buy a theme deck that includes a playable deck with land... and add or remove cards.

Great game, but can become very expensive.

Summary: Get over your "Virtual" groaning
Review: The effort involved with implementing a gaming system like this is monumental to say the least and that implementation is just the tip of the iceburg. Maintaining the server, debugging and adding new cards as expansions and revisions are released in the "real" world will be more than a full time job. ... you can take part in a 4 wk Sealed Deck League with a chance to win more booster decks. I have played almost 100 matches for that [money] and look forward to many more.
I was initially put off by the cost of "virtual" cards, but when really thought out, it isn't a bad deal for universal access to such a great game!

Summary: It's Great! Just like the card game, but online!
Review: The game itself plays great! Like anything, it isn't perfect, but it sure is fun! I love the fact that I can now play online with old friends who no longer live close. Leaping Lizards did a great job, and the game is getting better every day!

So if you're an obsessive-compulsive nut case and unable to control what you spend, then you should probably stay away from this game. It's loads of fun, so you might be hooked. But if you are a semi-normal human being with an ounce of self-control, then you are in for a great time! Play with old friends, and make new ones! I highly recommend it!

Summary: You Do Get Some Cards To Start With!
Review: This game is fantastic. Especially if you have no one local to play with. It just like the paper card game, allowing you to buy, sell, and trade cards. The card selcetion is what is currently allowed in standard format play, so you won't get to play with a lot of good older cards, but the selection and diversity I have seen online is great. These cards won't wear out or bend!

Several reviewers have stated you don't get any cards with this set. It's not true, you get a certificate good in the online store for one starter deck, which contains 75 cards. After that you have to buy, trade or beg for cards, just like in real life. Or if you want, you can play with that one deck forever and never spend another cent.

The implementation of Magic rules is great, and you don't have to worry about anyone trying to cheat you, or missinterpret the rules. The game looks and plays beautiful. You can join or form clans, that will eventually get to participate in clan only events. Join leagues, play multiplayer games like Three Headed Giant or Emperor. There are online tourneys to enter, with rankings and prizes (but these do cost money, just like real life). But, the best thing about Magic Online, is now I can find an opponent anytime I want to play a game.

Summary: Paying Money for online cards?
Review: This game is one big money-making scheme! OK first you have to buy the game itself. If you do this u can set up an online account without paying the 10 dollars but it wouild be cheaper if you bought the game online without buying the cd! Second you have to buy online decks and cards for the prices they sell them in real life! I mean you have to pay ten dollars for an intangible version of a card that you will never really ever own! All they have to do is lower the prices to about 2 dollars per preconstructee deck adn they will generate much more capital per customer due to the fact that people are turned off by this game due to it's heavy cost! Wizards should be ashamed for making a high priced game like this..it's great to play IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO SPARE. BUYER BEWARE!

Summary: Perfect for the lonely player
Review: This is not a game for just anyone, you have to purchase your product as if it were regular MTG. If thats not a problem, or you already play MTG this is pretty close to the real thing. The really great thing besides various types of MTG is that there are tournies, drafts, leagues etc... You can trade cards, chat, post cards for sale. Collecting a whole online set, you can trade it in for a physical set. The gaming options are are endless. Plus if you get home say 3am and want to play, there's always someone to play.

Summary: Nice concept, big moneymaking scheme
Review: This is not the same as playing magic in real life. If you already have a huge collection of real cards like me, you will have to start all over and pay for a bunch of "virtual" cards.
Get the magic the gathering interactive encyclopedia, if you can even find it (I suspect wizards phased it out to make people buy this). It lets you play online and use any cards you want - even replicate your real life deck, or improve it.
The encylopedia does not implement the rules, so you need to make sure you play with people who know them. Otherwise its much better than this.
