Summary: A great game, but....
Review: If you have an older computer, or lack the appropriate computer skills, this is a beast. Even with the patch, it crashes constantly. Everytime I am just starting to get the hang of the controls, it locks up and shuts down, (usually right before I am about to save my progress). The game play itself is amusing, but there is a lot of walking involved, which if your computer is older or slower, can become pretty tedious.

Summary: Awesome game, lots of fun
Review: This game is very good for RPG'ers, and D&D players. The character classes are from D&D as well. This is basically AD&D made into a computer game that you can play on your computer (no duh). The combat is simple enough for anyone, and looks cool, as well. The meat of the game is adventuring and completing quests. All during this time your being submersed in a complex and interesting story line that evolves every new area you walk into, or with every person you talk to. The FMV sequences are no where near competition to the Diablo II ones (which, btw, are the best FMV sequences on the game market as of Jan 2001 and counting), but they tell the story in vivid 3D. The on-screen graphics are awesome as well, although in one of the towns, you feel like your falling in your chair because of the way the characters are positioned on the screen relative to the surroundings. The actual roleplaying is surberb. Not only are you made in deep detail, you can control up to 5 other NPC's in your party for a total of 6 people. With a large variety of spells, weapons, magic items, and monsters, you'll be busy for well over the estimated 100 hours of gameplay. If your an experienced RPG'er, this game is a must-have because of it's awesome content. If your an AD&D player, be warned that this game is based on 2nd Ed rules, but otherwise, GET THE GAME! If your new to RPG's in general, get this and Diablo, playing Diablo first so you can learn all the terms and character development. It will really teach you how to play RPG's. Than move on to Baldur's Gate (that is, if you haven't already gotten hooked to Diablo :-)

Summary: A step up in D&D computer gaming
Review: I've played D&D since 1978, and played all of the D&D computer products (yes, ALL of them) since the very first Gold Box hit the shelves sometime around 1988. And Baldur's Gate is an incredible step up for those of us used to the too-linear game format from those games. Baldur's Gate is innovative in that you can choose where your party goes. Even though the flow of the storyline is still controlled by a 'chapter' method, you can still have leeway as to where your party goes. Usually, though, unless you follow a general storyline (which is laid out for you rather well; it doesn't leave you scratching your head wondering what to do next), you'll end up stepping into an area that you weren't meant to step into until you were a much higher level - and you end up getting wiped out. (If you want an example, when you first head for the Friendly Arm Inn in the beginning of the game, try going north to the farm. Have fun with the ankhegs!) The story centers on you, the main character. You choose the character you want, and if you're familiar with D&D you'll find nothing different here. All the other members in your party are NPC's, and therefore computer controlled. You do have a measure of direction over them, by altering AI 'scripts' to govern how they behave in certain situations. And, if you don't feel like messing with that, you have the option of turning the AI and directing them all on your own. They still communicate with each other, though, which is entertaining. Try having a Good NPC and an Evil NPC in your party, and watch as they make verbal jabs at each other. I was at first skeptical of the combat system, until I realized that the Pause button is there to alleviate those exact concerns I had. You can stop the action and then assign tasks to all your party members, then unpause it to let them carry out their missions. Sometimes, though, when fighting many baddies you will see a character kill his/her opponent, then stand there like a dummy while the others are fighting on. This is why, if you turn off the AI, you need to keep an eye on your party. Spellcasting is somewhat more difficult, in that you click on an icon representing the spell you want to cast. Sometimes, this is a pain if you don't know the symbol and have to right click on it or leave the pointer over it to let the game identify the spell. Otherwise it is very simple; click on the spell, click where you want it to go, and it happens. The game comes with a few voices for your character that you pick while generating him/her. I don't like any of them, and you're also going to get tired of the limited number of character portraits. But, there are websites out there just for this problem; you can download more pictures of characters and voice-overs to give the game more enjoyment. All in all it is an excellent game, and it makes me wonder if things have advanced this far in twenty-two years, what the heck will we be playing in another twenty-two years?

Summary: AD&D Heaven
Review: If you liked playing AD&D in high school, as I did, Then you will probably love Baldur's Gate. The game is huge, over 2GB at full install. If your hard drive is big enough to hold it all, so you don't have to change disks periodically, this game is amazing. Once I got used to the interface, I was hooked on BG. BG was the first computer game I ever owned so I can't compare graphic etc. to other games. Since I'm not one to get hung up about an extra nanosecond of load time here or there, I found BG to be extremely addictive. Some people like to whine about graphics here or plot line there, but I'm not some people. BOTTOM LINE. THIS GAME IS FUN!

Summary: This game is fun, until you figure it out
Review: I loved this game a lot.. i mean a lot. It was, by far, my favorite game i ever played. Until i beat it like 3 times and made about 20 different teams, i figured out how this game works. first off, i'll explain the obvious. You can choose from 6 races (Human, Elf, Half-Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Halfling). the you choose from 8 classes (Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Mage, Cleric, Druid, Theif, Bard). Then from 6 attribute points (Strangth, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma), to further make your character more personalized. Problem is, theres only 3 good races (Human, Dwarf, Halfling), about 3 good classes (Fighter, Mage, Theif), and only certain races are good with certain classes( Huamns are good at Fighter, Mage: Dwarves are only good at fighters, and Halflings are only good at Theives), so that just destroyed most of the customizing. The other clsses are pretty much worthless, as they are vastly inferior to the three main classes. The races other than those three have disadvantages that greatly outweigh their advantages. Items are also poorly made, as many items are clearly better than others, even at the same price, it was like the makers decided to put trick questions in the game, it almost makes you think your being put in a test, because if you read the entire description about the waepon, you can clearly see they are much better than other weapons that are alike. the puzzles made in here could have been put together by a person with no imagination, as 99% of all the puzzles area as follows, "I got robbed (or lost) this item right over there. Can you get it for me?" Everybody it seems, can't keep track of anything, one person asks you to get his boots back, because he dropped them! There is very little originality to this game, because the characters you meet are very much the same in all aspects. You can create a team of up to 6 people if you know how to work multiplayer, just make a game, and make all your allies computer, that way you get to control all 6 people, and you get to make them all! But soon enough, you'll find out, like i did, that theres a very strict teams you have to create if you want to win. Theres like 3 variations of a team that you should make to win, or else you'll lose very quickly. I wont spoil the fun out of finding the right combo of race/class, but its a very easy choice once you see how the game works.

Overall, I think this game is fun, but to me, this game is definatly not addicitve, as most RPG's are. An it is not a game in which you can keep playing over and over.

Summary: What else is left to be said?
Review: An incredible game. I am addicted and have been staying up far too long every night playing it. Action-packed but intelligent, Baldur's gate is the ultimate D&D experience, better than any late-night dice throwing session I ever had as a kid. As an added bonus, it even runs pretty darn good on my junky 166mhz. My only complaint is that at times monsters are thrown at your player that they are not yet ready for, and that can get kind of annoying as you die again and again and have to keep reloading. But other than that: pure bliss. I would write more, but I have to go play Baldur's Gate now. Buy this product. NOW.

Summary: Diablo? Ha!
Review: If you are like the many blinded PC gamers, than you might believe that Diablo is the ultimate RPG. Let me guide you to the light. Diablo is a good game because of its great multi-player system and more action-based controls. Baulder's gate is so much larger. Diablo had 1 disc, 1 town, and a mere 16 levels under it. Not to mention how small the town was. Baulders Gate has tons of settlements, as well as several large cities. There is a whole world in Baulder's Gate, and it has 5 discs (6 including the expansion.) It is so much bigger, and with the original and the expansion it takes up about the same amount of space as Diablo 2. You can control up to 6 heroes in your party, where in Diablo you control one. Also, every piece of clothing, armor, or weapons changes your character's appearance, where in Diablo only certain classes of weapons change the appearance. Plus there are many more classes. Diablo 2's big accomplishment was that there were 5 classes to chose from, which all look exactly alike to start with. In Baulder's Gate there are many classes, such as the Ranger, Fighter, Cleric, Mage, Thief, and so on. Also, any class can be a selection of mythical people, including Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Halfings, Gnomes, and Half-Elves. And at anytime during the game you can modify your character's appearance. So, if you are looking for a great on and offline RPG, forget Diablo and get Baulder's Gate!

Summary: THIS GAME ROCKS
Review: Baldurs gate is the best RPG game ever invented! When i first bought this game i was thinking it would be as good as Diablo. But i was wong this is way better! i liked the fact that you have a more variety in the choses of you and what your going to be. Also i love the fact that you can go inside the buildings (as long as you have a good thief why not? its an easy way to get cash)! It can never get boring because there is so many side adventures! It is crazy and you can find new stuff every time you play. Im a big Rpg fan and this is one of the best ive ever played, and as soon as i have enough money im going to get the second one because it looks awsome too.

I was reading an other review and i agree that Emlister and Drizzt are kind of annoying (i think) they never really help you and slow you down. If your going to Drizzt ( he has mithril amor +4 and magic swords wich are helpful) go through it for a while. I thought i could take him out with 6 against 1 boy i was wrong!

All in All buy this game you won't regret it!

Summary: Interesting.
Review: This is an interesting title. I never got into it that far but it is pretty cool. Very difficult. Beware not for amateur gamers. I can get about 5 hours in and half my men die. I don't like when that happens, but you got live I guess eh? Good luck if you choose this title.
