Summary: They finally did it right!
Review: After years of at best mediocre D+D type games, we are at last given something worthwhile. This is not a simple game, you actually have to pay attention to what you are doing/ being told. The AI control for the characters is a usefull godsend, otherwise you'd be reduced to a babbling idiot trying to control the actions of six characters simultaneously. beautifully done, and the expansion is a lot of fun too!

Summary: Bgate 2 thumbs up!
Review: An exellent game, hands down the best rpg ever made on a PC platform, even beats some of the console platform greats like ff7 and ff3. A MUST HAVE for any pc rpg fan or any AD&D fan, and with the expansion pack, it adds a whole lot more punch to the great game. The ambience and feel to the game is so relaxing and spectacular. The amount of times I came home from school in a crappy mood and played some bgate to relax are countless.

This ones a killer.

The only negative thing in bgate is there are not enough voices to fill all the people in the game (about a good 1 thousand unique characters!) The game itsself is 2.2 gigs on 5 cds. The cd changing in the game can become quite annoying as well.

Summary: Is it possible to fall asleep playing a game?
Review: I purchased Baldur's Gate because the graphix looked awesome and I had heard some very positive things about this game from various sources. I was very disappointed. This game takes forever to get to the action. I walked around for days easily slaying enemies, talking to people with lengthy dialogues that I didn't care to read, and got lost way too much for my taste. The battles were pathetic and easily winnable until the final battle where I was slain in a matter of seconds.

The turn-based style of fighting is terrible. Having to control six players gave me a headache. Having a limited number of spells and having to sleep to regain your spells is a very bad idea. The monsters were horible. There were no new monsters as you continue deeper and deeper into the game. There were far too many quests where all you did was walk, maybe slay a weak enemy, then walk a whole lot more to solve the quest. I know this is an rpg, but please, give me some action.

I did like the character generation process and like the ability to build up a character then import it into a new game. I also like being able to dual-class or multi-class characters. I feel this adds something to the game that other rpgs' miss.

I would recommend this game to any AD&D fan because it's the same boring garbage that you guys like. However, if you are an action junkie and really loved Diablo as I did then don't waste your money.

I just wonder why there are not more games in the style of Diablo. I see many trying to copy it, but doing a poor job at this.

Summary: The Most Addictive RPG Game Ever
Review: I have never been a fan of computer RPG's until Baldur's Gate came along. That is not to say that I have never given any computer RPG's a test drive. Most of them I found to be both boring and very limited. This game is definately an exception to this. BG allows one to create and customize a character and party using the AD&D rules. As an avid fan of the AD&D game, this was a very pleasant surprise. It is my hope that Interplay follows this game up with many add ons like the old AD&D modules. Tales of the Sword Coast is a good start, but much more can be done. It would be great to be able to continue using the same character in a number of adventures in this AD&D world. About the only real complaint I have with this game revolves around the fact that your character can only advance so far before an experience point limit caps them. This is modified somewhat in TSC, but it would be much better to put a limit of 500,000 (instead of 161,000 w/TSC)to allow for continued playability. So, what do you say Interplay?

Summary: RPG fans got a great payback...after a long while of waiting
Review: Well, I love playing Computer games...and my favourite is RPG. I have played a lot of them since the good old days when the gold box games ruled...until Ultima series..and a lot more

But since not many "good" games released in the past few years, I'm dying waiting to a good one. And Baldur's Gate is that one. This game has all the things any great games should have, the great story line, huge world to explore, non-linear plot, hundreds of Non-Play Characters to interact with...along with nice graphics and music & sound.

Now, I feel so good.. after a very long long time of waiting....and finally.. Baldur's Gate had saved my life

Summary: The Mother of all D&D Video Games
Review: As one of the few people who fondly remembers the old SSI "gold box" games, I have been looking forward to Baldur's Gate for almost 2 years. The game ended up surpassing even my ultra-high expectations. The graphics, music, sound effects, storyline, and dialogue are all top notch, and the game has even addicted my non-RPG fanatic fiancee. The game is tough, but not impossible. I end up having to reload certain fights 4-5 times to win, trying different strategies each time. The game is also more faithful to the "true" D&D rules than any other. (ie, magic items are carefully meted out, not just found in bushes beside the road.)

One minor complaint: Drizzt Du'orden and Elminster are humonga-chodes, two of the silliest, stupidest, most ill-conceived and contrived characters in the history of Role-Playing, and I was not amused to find them in the game. No biggie. I killed Drizzt and took his magical chain mail and sword. :)

I have not been this wrapped up and involved in a game since I bought Civilization II.

Kiss your family and friends good-bye, stock the fridge, and enjoy Baldur's Gate.

Summary: Excellent Storyline and graphics!
Review: I have been playing this game since it has been available and I am hooked! I love Diablo and this game is better than Diablo. The interwoven storylines, the quests and the various characters add richness and depth to this game. The graphics are eye poppingly realistic. I recommend this game highly to anyone looking for a great role playing game

Summary: A false promise but a terrific game.
Review: This game promises to be truly compliant with AD&D rules.

Thats not true! , there are lot of things missing, few levels, few spells (compared to AD&D which is quite large), little interacction with items, environment, that are things important in AD&D.

Still this game is one of the best RPG games ever made, and they tried to follow the AD&D rules, obviously such a compromise was too demanding. (hope they will do a better job with Never Winter Nights)

Storyline is complex and fun, interaction with NPCs is very well made, I wonder How many writers they hired to make such a rich NPC enviroment, Youl never get tired if you talk to NPCs.

Sound and visuals are good, You can easily image yourself walking on the woods, with the sound of the birds, etc etc.

If you are looking forward for games of this type buy it so they can improve the game. Also If you dont want your children to empty their minds with bang, bang games.

Summary: One of the best hack-and-slash RPGs ever
Review: As I mentioned in the summary, this game is in the grand style of RPGs, and it even manages to sneak a not embarrassing story line too. The gameplay is a good execution of more-or-less real time, and the mechanics are classic D&D. The main character is customizable, and he/she will meet many other kindred souls who can join you. With the numerous side quests, wide variety of supporting characters, and well-balanced selection of magical trinkets and critters, this game is, I believe, the standard for RPGs.
