Rating: Summary: BUYER BEWARE!!!!! Review: I must say that this is one of the worst games I have played since Outpost. The manual is utterly useless. It has hardly any solid information about the controls or flow of the game. The controls are non-intuitive and sluggish. The game play is very poor and kluggy. This game is so bad, I thought there must be a patch for it. But I was wrong. I am playing this on a P4 H/T with a GB of RAM and a G-Force video card. Unless you enjoy disappointment, avoid this game at all cost.
Rating: Summary: I can see fine... Review: I personally liked this game. I don't know why I can while most other people can't, but I could see fine during the night, and although the jungles are a little hard to navigate through, you get the hang of it after a while. I loved all the battles you could do in this game, and the freedom of deciding where to go next..
Rating: Summary: Frustratingly Difficult Review: I was looking forward to this game for a long time. However, I found it to be annoyingly difficult. There is no level balance at all that I can see. You start out poor with poor equipment, which is fine except that everyone you run into can kill you in one swipe. Not to mention that it's hard to get money, but you have a lot of expenses. You might be tempted to say 'well that's life', well, this isn't life...it's a game. If I wanted life, I'd go to work for entertainment. I couldn't find any way to scale the difficulty, nor did it seem was I able to adjust the sensitivity or flip the axis on any of the movement controls. I'm going to keep plugging away, because it does get easier as you figure it out, but the learning curve is very steep, much like a some of the football games. I give this two stars only because it shows potential, if I can survive long enough to develope the character's skills to a point that the game is enjoyable. Naturally the instruction book that came with the game was abysmally general, and not very clear. It's sad that that's become the norm.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Game Review: Just an incredible game as far as graphics are concerned. I've never seen anything like it. The 3D detail is amazing. The colors are rich and contrasting; this game is a work of graphic art. Being able to explore an environtment of something like seven hugely detailed islands is the other thing about this game that stands out to me. It takes a long time to see everything! Yeah, it's darn hard to get used to the controls, but once you do, things are a lot of fun. Get the game. Pirates of the Caribbean rocks!
Rating: Summary: Bugs ahoy! Review: My computer is well within the minimum specs for this title yet I could not get it to run properly. Once I began a new game the thing would freeze. I've played many high end games on my computer with few if any problems. Please avoid as Pirates of the Caribbean has faulty (incomplete?) programing and might not work on your computer.
Rating: Summary: Belongs in Davy Jones locker! Review: Ok here is my beef, I own "Sea Dogs" and I also own "Morrowind" both which I thoroughly enjoyed. But after beating this "Non-Linear" game in only 4 days I can say this game is a huge bust. I must admit im not a huge rpg game fan but if it has something to do with leveling up in order to get bigger and better things such as ships I have got to have it. I find it hard to believe the creators of morrowind made this game, it looks great but underneath is a hideously awful game. It seems like every other person you run into for a job proposal is named Rooper, and the ending which I wont give away, is extremely disappointing. I will however say that to call this game "Non-linear" is an extreme hoax because once you've gotten so far there is no turning back, and right at the point where your thinking the fun is just beginning, the ending will be in its place, and all the time you've spent leveling up to finally capture the ship of your dreams will end up in an extremely watery grave leaving you with no since of fulfillment or enjoyment at all! Because once you get it you will lose it and there is nothing you can do about it but watch with horror from starboard as the credits role and the game ends. My biggest problem with this game is the ending, maybe I just ran into a streak of luck which allowed me to level up fast (I did not cheat) but even so to be forced to end the game after capturing a ship which cannot be bought and not even getting to take it for a test drive or anything is pretty awful. One of the things I loved about The original "Sea Dogs" and "Morrowind"(which I still haven't finished yet) was that you decided when the game would end, and it did not force it upon you. I seriously doubt I had even finished leveling my character up to a level anywhere near his maximum potential which dualy upsets me, But alas, this was a disney production so I guess it was only to be expected. ...
Rating: Summary: Pirates of the Caribbean Review: Pirates is an open-ended game with sword fights, sailing, and many different quests. Although the controls are a bit tricky at first, you soon get the hang of it. The instruction manual is only good for the controls, other then that it just basically tells a story. The graphics are incredible, the plot is awesome and it has nothing to do with the movie.
Rating: Summary: Only looks good on the surface. Review: Pirates of the caribbean is a very good 'looking' game. It has some very attractive features. Unfortunately it is SO sloppy it's not worth trying to get around the problems. First, the manual is almost useless. There are aspects of game place that the manual doesn't even begin to describe. There are sections of the manual that are completely missing. As others have mentioned, there are BUGS. Plenty of them. I've had characters that you had to interact with inhabiting the same physical space as other characters - making it impossible to interact with them. I've also had outright crashes where the game just quits. Bethesda's support was quick and responsive - for the first couple days before they finally just gave up. Their solution? Start again. Well.. after starting again for the 3rd time I lost interrest. There are other "Pirate" games out there.. Spend your money on one of those.
Rating: Summary: A very buggy game. Review: Pirates of the Caribbean was originally called Sea Dogs 2 until Disney and a few hefty bags of money changed the title overnight. That surprising change led to an early release of the game (earlier than expected at least). Regretfully the game we have now is practically unfinished. A few times while playing I thought "Who the hell tested this game?" and believe me, there are so many bugs that this question is very valid. On a side note PoC is very similar to another recent computer game, Port Royale. PR has no flashy graphics, but it is still a very good title. I recommend it if you like pirates games. Graphics-wise PoC is beautiful. It uses what seems to be a modification of the Morrowind engine. The water looks especially good. Storms are quite impressive too. The interfact of the game is consolish. The game is not exactly a port, but it has been designed for X-box as well as PC and this is evident. Even though I got used to the interface I still think it was overly and unnecessarily complicated. But whatever. The game itself places you in the boots of captain Nathaniel Hawk. You can have a fleet of up to four ships and with them you can roam the sees fighting and boarding (boarding's the best) other ships, you can trade, scout the islands of the archipelago, do some (easy) side missions and even capture forts. Regretfully some of these components are not well-done. For example trading. When you trade the only prices you see on the screen are the buy/sell prices for the current trader. To check what is good to buy and what not you hve to go to the main "stuff" menu (character, ships, quests, etc menu) and select "trade routes". Note that even there you only learn what's exported and imported on each island. You do not learn the specific prices. Annoying, huh? Ship battles are well-done. Basically you just... Well, fight. You can shoot four different types of ammo (normal, crew-killing, sails-destroying and ship-sinking ammos). You can also board. When you board, you have to combat some enemies and the more crew and the better morale you have, the easier this is. This reminds me, sometimes you control your character in third person view (islands and boarding ships) and in these cases you can fight. When you fight you have the following moves - slash(guess), block (you can still get through it), dodge(character jumps backwards, better than block I think) and shoot with the gun (hits one enemy pretty bad, have to reload which takes a while). Fighting is a little bit fun for a while, but it is not overly complex and quickly gets boring. What is annoying is that a few times during the story line I had to fight whether I wanted to or not, with say 3 guys in a closed place with no space. I had to stay in block because there was no room to dodge. I had a lot of skills in fighting and the best sword. The enemies still broke through my block. I had to repeat the fight 5+ times until I managed to kill one of them with a lucky strike early on and barely killed the other two. Regardless of this the melee fighting is fairly well-done. The game has RPG elements. As you progress and gain experience your character can gain some abilities and improve his skills. The skills are fighting, cannoneering, trading and such. The abilities are like the perks in fallout, for those who know what I mean. You just get some bonus on the instant. Now let us bash the game for a while. First, all the walking. When you get to a city you can walk around it. It's OK initially, but obviously it quickly gets boring. So to get you to the tavern, shop and other fun places, the designers implemetnted the quick-movement button. This is all very nice, but every time you go to a city and you want to go back to see, when you click go to port you start at the city gates and have to go to your ship manually. Which can sometimes take a minute. Do this 60 times (which you'll probably do before you finish the game) and voala - one wasted hour. Sometimes you also have to explore the jungles, which is extremely frustrating whithout a map. The game also features a million of bugs. There's all kinds of bugs. I'm not even going to go into them. But it's simply ridiculous. One other annoying thing is that when you finish the main quest line the game ends. How stupid is that? The game is supposed to be open-ended, for christ's sake! Anyway, a new mod was just released to make up for that (you are allowed to continue), but this doesn't excuse the developers. So to wrap it up, this game is simply unfinished and unpolished. It is still pretty fun for a while (say 10 hours, a lot of them sepnt... walking... around), but on the overall it is not especially good. Too buggy. On the other hand if you like pirate games, Sea Dogs 1, or the movie, this game is for you.
Rating: Summary: best pirates game ever Review: Pirates of the Caribbean, despite all of the other reviews, is frankly the best RPG and pirate game i have ever played/heard of Its great graphics go beyond that of any Xbox game. Its Islands look so real that my mom walked by the screen and did a double take. Aside from graphics, its plot is awesome (except that its not as much like the movie as i had hoped) You can control, buy, customize, and capture real ships. You can explore catacombs and jungles. At the end you can even raid an incan temple! You can build up your party and fleet and customize their/your abilities. In fact there is so much you can do, that i cand fit it in the 1000 word limit. The rest i have to say is that it may not work on some computers with POOR graphics cards (for those of u POTC haters) and that when i got it, i was amazed at how much i enjoyed it. I also have to say that im sorry for the people who cant play it because of bad computers because your missing the best computer game that i have ever played! so for all of you POTC lovers BUY THIS GAME!!! it will be more than worth your money
