Rating: Summary: Where is the role playing? Whack, whack, whack Review: If it claims to be role playing, I think of Baldur's Gate, Gothic, Morrowind, Neverwinternights. I think of discovering a universe with history, gods, esoteric knowledge, intercultural conflict, interesting and useful treasure. Dungeon Siege pretends to have such things but really just leads you through a variety of landscapes while you kill everything that comes by, and pick up randomly generated objects with ridiculous or irrelevant attributes. I found the game a waste of my time and money.
Rating: Summary: Graphics A+, Storyline C- Review: Fun game, if you like pure hack and slash. Gorgeous graphics, learning-by-doing gameplay, entertaining combat, but way too little in terms of plot and storyline.
Rating: Summary: Play the demo first! Review: For those of you unsure of whether or not you will like Dungeon Siege, my recommendation is to download the demo. It gives you quite a bit of gametime and the opportunity to build up a decent number of characters in your party. I loved the demo and went straight out to purchase the game. The graphics are beautiful and the single player game is very engaging. I was a big fan of Diablo but when I bought Diablo 2 I was quite disappointed. I was worried about a similar results with Dungeon Siege but my fears proved unfounded. The single player game is very enjoyable. Unfortunately, it is too lengthy the game does become slightly tedious and repetitive towards the end. The multiplayer game of the version is even larger than the single player game. However, I found lag to be a very big problem and I also spent long periods of time adventuring without finding a single enemy to engage. Dungeon Siege comes with lots of extras, such as the ability to generate your own maps. However, I'm only reviewing what came in the box. In summary an excellent game with beautiful graphics that gets tedious towards the end, after 30 or so hours of play. Still highly recommended especially to any Diablo fans out there.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: I suppose this is more of a "niche" game than it appears to be at first. Although based on RPG elements, it is not a true RPG, but rather a hack-n-slash game, ala Diablo. If you play Dungeon Siege without cheating, you will never reach the maximum level, because of the exponential growth of the experience requirement, so you always have something to look forward to. Personally I love it, and after about 8 months I still like to play it. The graphics are superb, and the way three dimension is implemented allows for very smooth play. There are no slowdowns because the characters pass "thru" the objects on the map, and this frees up cpu resources that would otherwise be used in calculating pathing and such. The worlds that ship with the game are huge, and you really feel like you are in another world. The music is written by the same composer who wrote the tracks for "Morrowind" and "Total Annhilation". It fits in nicely with the feel of the game, and adds to the overall experience. The game is great in single player but really shines in multiplayer. I have spent many 16 hour sessions hacking and slashing with my friends, taking half a day to kill everything on the map and then starting all over again :) The multiplayer interface is simple and elegant. The community is not as large as those of Neverwinter Nights or Warcraft 3 for example, but it is sufficient. I think of Dungeon Siege multiplayer as a new millenium version of a chatroom, where people get to experience being in another world, while chatting and having a good time.
Rating: Summary: An entertaining game Review: I felt that this was a great release. This game is very similar to Diablo, but also brings new elements to this style of game play. Overall, I felt that this was a very entertaing game (I couldn't stop playing it until I beat it) and would highly recommend it to all Diablo fans.
Rating: Summary: Dungeon Siege is cool! Review: This game is really great, if you are into rpg's that allow you to build up your character class and skills, like fighters, mages, wizards, and archers. Equip your fighters as you create a male or female character, give them a name and send them on a journey from a humble farmer to a great warrior and goblin slayer! There are quests to do and you will be notified once a quest is completed. Allow other character to join your party and equip them, and keep those health and mana potions handy!
Rating: Summary: Nice atmosphere - tedious gameplay Review: For the real hard-core RPG party micro-managers out there this game will provide hours of diversion. However, if we step past the beautiful graphics and dynamic music, we stumble into a game of linear boredom. The problem with RPG's like this is that the myriad of level upgrades and weapon/spell choices completely overwhelm the majority of gamers. YES, the environments are lovely and the pack mule IS a good idea but ultimately the 'click attack' and 'constant checking of health bars' becomes really tiresome. It's a pity, because Dungeon Seige does attempt to appeal to the more casual RPG'er. Overall, a solid and commendable attempt at appealijg to the non-RPG'er. At a budget price it's well worth a look.
Rating: Summary: Zzzzzzzzzz... Review: Honestly I'm an absolutely fanatical RPG fan, and came to Dungeon Siege with high hopes after hearing about it, but it failed to live up to my expectations. Firstly, I was expecting something a little less... DiabloII-ish, and more into the Neverwinter Nights arena. Don't get me wrong, D2 was a great game, and I still thought DS could have some potential, even though it was just a point and click fest. The RPG elements seemed to be very minimal, although you -could- develop you're character any way you wanted, you basically had to chose one thing (fighter, archer, or mage) to be good at, because trying to be good at everything will make you suck at everything. Furthermore, characters are pretty bland, and forgettable, and the -epic storyline- boasted about on the box is non-existent and when it does pop up, it is predictable and humdrum(great evil approaching, you must single handedly save kingdom, yada yada yada, been there, done that, and seen MUCH better(albeit i only managed to slog through 10-15 hours of mindless killing, so there may be some -epic- plot twist, but i seriously doubt that)) Despite that it was just hack'n'slash, I still wanted to give it a chance, but there was some certain -fun- factor missing, the way D2 had an appeal. There was just something that made you want to go on in D2(a lot to do with the great item system), but somehow DS managed to lack that quality, and after the first few hours... well... read the title of this review to get the idea. Major reasons why I feel this way is because: Strategy was non-existant, hack (or fireball or whatever), drink potion, rinse, repeat. The item system felt ripped right out of D2(i.e. strength requirements, random magical properties) but lacked that depth that had made D2 items such fun to collect. As a final gripe, I don't see these -amazing- graphics people were raving about. I guess its because I'm spoiled by console games, because to me -great- graphics is on par with Final Fantasy X, which DS does not even compare with. Although, that said, I still liked the -look- (not necessarily graphics quality) of D2 better than this game. I suppose if you think of this as a D2-esque game you won't be so sorely dissapointed as I was, and perhaps you may find something to like. I however, did not and this game will just be another dust collector.
Rating: Summary: Boring.... Review: The mule is cool. Arcanum players will appreciate the mule. You can get a herd of mules to follow you around. You spend your time whacking critters. If you like mules and whacking critters.... this game is for you. If you want any kind of plot line or NPC dialogue go elsewhere. BG or Morrowind come to mind. I'll give it 3 stars because the graphics don't .... and it almost makes it as a first person shooter game.
Rating: Summary: Boring for even a newbie rpg'er Review: Although the graphics are quite beautiful IMO, especially compared to D2, the game is, well, boring. With an unbelievably linear story, the game takes very little thought, save micromanaging your party (which quicly gets monotonous and annoying). Think I'll stick to D2...no, the graphics aren't quite as spectacular, but at least it's fun.
