Rating: Summary: Beyond great... Review: All that's needed to be said has been, but I thought I should add that you don't chose classes, whatever you use most gets the skill points or levels or what-have-you. It's the main competitor to Neverwinter Nights (being released later me thinks.) Fantastic graphics and probably sure to attract as many experienced rpg'ers as 'n00bs' with the ability to have a party of people with an AI you choose... this includes having one full of archers or warriors or whatever you chose. Also, thanks to advanced AI and mapping it's possible to plan out attacks from a hill with arrows or use a narrow walkway to your advantage with ranged attacks. Truly a new-age blend between Baldur's Gate and Diablo, best for those who found Diablo too tiring or BG too slow.
Rating: Summary: Why give three stars to a five star game? Review: As mentioned, this game takes away all the disadvantages and takes all the advantages of a RPG, thus making this a great RPG. ...you don't pick your own class at the beginning, as the game progresses, the weapons you choose to use, determine the skills you will develop. There is enough flexibility here that you can turn one class into another during the game. Without a loading screen, you can really be hooked into the game without interruptions, which always feels like a 'party poper' when you are really into the game. Other RPGs restict camera movement, but not on this games, it lets player have total control over the camera (can't look up the sky though), zooming in and out. I haven't played this game yet (game is not out yet!), these are just my first impressions of the game. If everything said in the game is done right, this game can really shine.
Rating: Summary: Another lure for the newbie RPG gamer.... Review: This game, form what I have seen and read, has nothing special about it. You cannot choose what character you start off with, just your gender. The only classes you can choose from are fighter, archer, and mage. You can play online, but players can make their own maps thus opening the possibility of game makers buffing up their own character to no end and slaughtering everyone else... This game also promises to be very versatile when it comes to character classes... you can be a fighter and a mage and an archer at the same time... this sort of ruins the overall experience in my opinion. I cannot even believe the other post of this game rating it 5 stars and going by nothing more than the hype on the official site....
Rating: Summary: Terrible terrible terrible game Review: I've got a lot of patience for games... I usually don't care if it's bad. However, this game transcended bad. This game is awful. The term "Role Playing Game" is rediculous. This game has no role playing whatsoever: Conversations are completely linear and players cannot respond. Even worse, the game offers no choice in the way the adventure. The path is completely linear, so much so that after an hour of playing, I could predict every attack the monsters made... they would always attack in a small clearing, with a similar spread of monsters. However, the use of a pack mule, the ability to only drink a small amount of a potion, and the different skill system interested me. While these are good ideas, they don't carry the game. Save however much money you would spend on this, and keep shopping.
Rating: Summary: Seems to be designed with love Review: It's true that this game is a little short of character development, but I think it more than makes up for it in depth of detail, and it seems to be made by folks who cared about how it came out. One example: the donkey, not an essential character at all. Usually runs away from the bad guys, but sometimes tries to help you fight them by kicking. This easily could have been left out, but they didn't. My wife is hooked. She's playing it right now. We like it!
Rating: Summary: What a blast Review: I've never been a big fan of D&D type games and, frankly, I'm still not. The one exception is Dungeon Siege. Unlike other games, this doesn't bog you down in the bizarro world of arcane AD&D rules. More importantly, it has more the adventure flow of a classic FPS with little of the horrible, repetetive running back and forth nonsense found in so many other games of the genre.
My only major criticism is that some of the levels did get a little repetetive. For that, it probably deserves 4 1/2 stars, but that's not an option.
One measure of game enjoyment for me is whether I replay the game and how long it is before I do. In this case, I played it through a second time just after finishing the first (I meant to only play the first level to compare character types, but ended up going all the way through.)
Rating: Summary: Great Graphics, but a bit too busy Review: This game is very fun to play...for awhile. The graphics are stellar...but the basic plot of the game, kill monsters, get experiance points and new weapons so you can kill even bigger monsters get's a little old. There is absolutly no "role playing" involved in this game. It's a beautifully rendered hack and slash. There really isn't even any strategy involved in the fighting. You just point, click, and watch the mayhem. In fact, the screen can get way too busy with all the fighting going on. After awhile, I found myself losing interest.
But it's a very nice PC game for the price it's currently being offered at.
Rating: Summary: Another great rpg Review: I loved this game. The action is cool, the engine, graphics and sceneries are simply to die for. The soundtrack is composed by Jeremy Soule and is of the highest quality. I've made my own audio CD and listen to it every now and then, great medieval music.
The game does have some bad points however. The storyline is pretty thin, the game is very linear and the action is too much of a point-and-click thing.
If you plan on purchasing this title, you will be better off going for Dungeon Siege:Legends of Aranna as it includes this game and also the expansion pack. So save yourself the money and go for Legends of Aranna.
Rating: Summary: What a terrible piece of slop Review: Not only is this game linear, dumb-downed and boring, but its graphics leave something to be desired. I dl'd the demo just to check it out and was highly disappointed. I recomend Neverwinter Nights for the fan of any RPG of high merit.
