Rating: Summary: Dungeon Siege Review: An exciting game but the story goes Dungeon, Town, Dungeon in My opinion it should have some side parts like a arena for you to fight in like gladiators and earn money. It has a complex weaponery thing were you have to reach a certain level in Strength, Dexcisity, and knowledge to use certain weapons. It has many weapons and cool looking armour and shields but i still think the game can be boring if you play long enough.
Rating: Summary: Demo is nice, game may be another matter Review: When diciding whether or not to buy a game i either try the demo or see it at a friend's house or some other way of see how the game compares to what it is cut out to be. In this case i used the demo. When i first started out i noticed many good things, and many not so good things. One of the good things is the camara angle, i could easily manuver the camara anywhere i wanted to get a good view of what i was doing. the graphics were also very good but the monsters were slightly disapointing. They dont have the greusome, wicked appearance as in other games such as Diablo II etc. The weapon system is a little dissapointing. You don't train in a certain weapon, you just find the weapon that does the most damage and use it if you can. Spells are generally the same. Also, i was trying to figure out 1. what is the point of mana when you have unlimited mana potions which can keep you going till doomsday, and 2. How exactly can you lose this game since i never even came close to dying because as soon as my health went below halfway i would use a healing potion and since i had an invantory full of those i was pretty much invinceable. Those are generally my complaints. The ups about this game are a few new things added in, such as the pack mule. Not a major advantage but a nice touch. Also the fact that you arnt stuck with certain people the entire game. You can choose which you want to hire and fire. I just wish they would have backround stories that might actually play a part in the overall storyline (whatever that is), which is the biggest problem of the lot. There is no storyline, no mystery, no suspence. You just fight your way to the end and thats it. The Krondor series was much better at doing this. Well, this is just my two cents. hope it helped.
Rating: Summary: keeps crashing Review: It is a nice game with not very detailed but overall beautiful graphics. This seems to be characteristic of Microsoft games from their flight simulators to RPG's - fuzzy/blurry textures that look beautiful if you move your chair back four or five feet from the monitor or squint your eyes. Also, this game keeps randomly crashing my computer for some reason. Worked with Microsoft tech support on it to no avail thus far. But the gameplay itself is fun and I like the lack of an artificial limit on what my character can do - if I use spells more I advance my magical skills - if I use my weapons I advance my hand-to-hand combat skill. I really like this feature a lot. I do wish that there were more spells but then again you can never have enough spells in a game as far as I am concerned. Finally, the music is very nice and not boringly repedetive like some games out there. Overall I recommend buying this game.
Rating: Summary: Pretty darn bad Review: I completely agree with the fellow who called it "Gauntlet 2002." Dungeon Siege is slightly more advanced than the old arcade favorite, but nearly just as mindless. This game is nice to look at, nice to listen to, but playing it is about as exciting as watching paint dry. There is no role-playing here, just an endlessly boring series of battles where the extent of your tactical involvement is to say "attack this monster with a [insert weapon/spell type here]" - at which point you just sit back and watch the pretty pictures. If you like that sort of thing, then I guess Dungeon Siege is the game for you (hey, it takes all kinds).
Rating: Summary: Gorgeous-looking, simple and accessible. Review: ... Dungeon Siege is that gorgeous, curvaceous, friendly, but empty-headed blonde(or should I say, redhead?) from your neighborhood. And even though you really love to discuss latest developments in rocket science with your Ph.D. colleagues, now and then you still might wanna call that pretty girl and take her out to a nightclub for some mindless fun. If you are all rocket science, and don't [money] at a game store. If you expect Baldur's Gate 75, a quick trip to official website will quickly tell you that you should look elsewhere - so please do not knock this game for what it never pretended to be. As ... games go, DS delivers 100%. This out of the way, Dungeon Siege IS absolutely great-looking. You'll need some good silicon to squeeze the most of it (My 1.2GHz Athlon, 512MB DDR, GeForce2 Ultra is more than up to the task) Sound is great too. What I REALLY love is character-development system. In this game it's very hard to find yourself stuck with something you don't really enjoy. Especially in early game, characters are flexible enough to adapt to your style. If you want to make Gloern a combat mage, and Merik an archer, all you need is a little effort. Combat system is also a treat. If you feel confident, you can set attack modes, and send your party into carnage while you go fix a sandwich. Or you can micromanage by pausing, and ordering precisely every cast, swing, and arrow if the battle is tough. To recap: If you want a game that looks and feels good, has simple gameplay, and just allows you to relax, give Dungeon siege a try.
Rating: Summary: One word, awesome Review: Take the best of Diablo II, Baldour's Gate, mix them together, add a 360 degree angle and zoom capabilities, and there you have single player Dungeon Siege. It's just like everybody says, no wait times, no load times, no anything except awesome graphics, awesome gameplay, awesome dungeon crawling. Now, if you want multiplayer? Take the best of TFC (sorry, there may be others out there, I dunno) and add that into the mix. Plus, you can save your character. Agreed, I played multiplayer online at work, and therefore didn't have a whole lotta time to play, but it's still awesome. And once the siege editor comes out, omg. Now, is the time for the true roleplayer to get his copy of DS, and go to town. Our time has come. I've played EQ, and this game totally kicks EQ's arse.
Rating: Summary: Reminiscent of UO and Diablo Review: After a while, game players start seeing some similar things in every game of the same genre. So yes, this game resembles all those 3D RPGs including UO and EQ and Camelot, etc.. And yes, it could have been a 3D sequel of Diablo. However, I tried Diablo I and II for about 1 hr each...could not get into it and left the game, gave it away, I didn't even want to keep it. But after 7 hrs of Dungeon Seige, I'm still wanting more! I like the interface, and the fact that it seems to play itself is one detail I don't have to worry about. I control my characters to get them in and out of harms way. Everything else is mostly automatic, including targeting, moving to get closer to enemies, attacking, even magic casting if you have that set as the default action for your char. The skill levels increase just like in UO. Keep using your melee weapon, and your Strength and melee skill increases faster than the other attributes. Use magic, and your Intelligence and magic skill increases. Behind the scenes, it might be using the traditional "kill monster A, get 100 exp" but for the user, this is not shown. It's different from the "get 1000 exp, increase to Lvl 2 and add extra 10 pts to your attributes" method. However, this is the what makes UO and this game interesting. You can have a warrior that dabbles in magic, and if you get high levels in every skill, your tank mage will be quite defender of justice. Some positives that stand out for me are the pack mule which can be in your party and carry extra loot. And it won't run into a pack of monsters (as if it could survive) like in UO. The party interface is good also, like Secret of Mana where you can set your extra members on some AI setting so they'll be on defense, aggressive, use melee or magic attacks, etc. Some negatives about this game that stand out for me is that you can't tell why your character that just dropped is dead or simply unconscious (and will get up again). You'll go unconscious so often, you almost wonder when you actually can die. And then when it does happen, you wonder why this time it didn't just go unconscious because now you to reload if you can't ressurect yet. Also you only can start out as human, even though you can get dwarven NPCs to join you later. In the single player, the monsters never re-spawn so you do have to decide which skills you want to focus on. But don't worry if you decide you really need another skill set. You can take that same character into the multi-player mode, and whatever skills and possessions you get there can be brought back into the single-player mode. You can reach up to beyond level 100 so this game will provide lots of game play time.
Rating: Summary: good dungeon crawl Review: this game 'feels' a lot like an older and very good game called Darkstone, which came out in between Diablo and Diablo2 and was in a 3D environment,lets you change camera angles, download different skins for your character, etc... probably in the bargin bins if you want to try it. anyway, DS's character models are rendered nicely (you can choose from different faces, bodies, tec) but it's really the environments that stands out; outdoors can snowing, have fog, etc. in the dungeon you can light the torches and look for levers on the wall -- all done with enough detail so it's not distracting from the gameplay but very discernable. the game seems mostly bug free and the pathing AI is ok. aiming isn't the best especially since the screen centers on the character (you have have up to 8 in a party) you have selected -- the screen jumps a bit when you want to micro manage a big confrontation. you can set different reactions like an abbrevated version of Baldur's Gate's combat scripting. the advancement of skill level and attribute is strictly tied into how you use your character(s). have someone always use a bow and their dex and ranged skill level will advance quicker. use prodominently spells (there are 2 schools, nature and combat magic that you can choose between) and the intelligence and magic (nature or combat) levels will advance faster. so there are no points you need to manually distribute once a character gains enough experience. the plot itself is very linear (not necessarily a bad thing) with some subplots and very little in puzzle solving (up to chapter four where i am at the moment)... all in all a good game... i know that 3 stars looks low but excepting for the multi-character party, if you've played Darkstone, you'd probably see this as a progressively better game but not revoluntionary nor a big leap over Diablo2.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing! Review: As many others, I had been waiting for long to play this game. I really thought I would love it...but I dont. Lets get to the point: This game looks great. My only complaints are the restricted camera movements and zoom, but they are not a problem. Sound is ok, and the music is very good. The real problem of the game is the extremely repetitive gameplay. You simply have to kill thousands of monsters, collect loot and sell part of that loot. There is almost no story. There is almost no interaction with other characters. After playing games like the Baldur's Gate series, it was a bit dissapointing to see that the characters that join your party end up being a bunch of stats, and not a character with some kind of personality, goals he/she wants to achieve... As killing monsters is the only thing you are going to do, at least you can choose how to do it. Your characters can use melee weapons, bows, and magic. About melee: there are lots of different weapons. There is not specific weapon training, so it makes no difference for your characters if its an axe, hammer, sword...your characters won't be specially good or bad with any particular weapon; you will only care about the damage it makes. The same melee skill affects every melee weapon in the game. About ranged attacks: you will have your bow and arrows. Actually, an infinite number of arrows! In a game like Myth, there was some strategy involving the use of bowmen. You could attack from the distance, but arrows could hurt your own troops, so when some of them were fighting monsters in melee, you didn't shoot in order not to injure your soldiers. In Dungeon Siege, forget about that. You can keep shooting arrows in any situation, even if the monsters are just beside the archer. No real strategic element at all. About magic: there are two kinds of magic, nature magic and combat magic. Actually they don't feel as different as one would expect. The problem with the magic system is that you simply don't need it! You will have countless healing potions that you can use at any time, so you don't really need a character that has healing spells. In games like Baldur's Gate and others, having magic casters in the party is very important. Here, you have them because/if you want to have them. You DON'T NEED THEM AT ALL. They have ranged attacks, but so do the archers. Spells use mana, but you also have mana potions, so you can cast spells non-stop. Does this make sense? The existance of mana in this kind of games is a way to limit the ability to cast spells all the time. Introducing mana and countless mana potions, you put a limit and then remove it! If you want to be able to cast an infinite number of spells without stopping, simply use a magic system that doesn't use mana! About the loot:there are lots of different items, but when you get them, in most cases you won't use them. You will keep finding really weak items, and also items you will have to wait a long time to use, because your character needs to advance a lot for that items to be usable by him/her. The inventory system can get a bit annoying, because you will need to place your items in a certain way so some of the new items you get fit in. You can buy a mule to be able to carry more loot, but it counts as a party member, so if you have 8 characters, you can't buy a mule without dimissing a party member. Besides, the mule's behaviour can be a bit upsetting at times. Gameplay is very linear. Quests are rare and rather boring. So in the end this game is about walking from one town to another killing everything you find in the way, entering dungeons and get to their exit killing everything you find ... About the mosters: you will not find much variation in monsters. Killing a krug is fun. After having killed hundreds its not so fun (even though there are krug raiders, krug guards, krug shamen... that look pretty much the same but have a different attack or power). About fighting: Monster AI is very simple. If a monster has a melee attack, he will come to kill you. If you get in a fight that seems too much for you, or simply don't want to melee, you can just run and throw arrows or spells as monsters come for you. If monsters have a ranged attack, they will shoot from the distance, and won't seem to care if you get closer to them in order to chop them with you axe. Fights don't really require the use of melee weapons, or any other particular kind of attack. It is a bit upsetting that having 8 archers in the party, or having 8 magic casters would be almost the same (apart from graphical differences). But if you had 8 melee fighters, and no ranged attacks at all, it would be also ok. You don't really need ranged attacks to kill every monster in the game. It is nice to be able to develop your characters the way you want, the problem is that it makes no big difference! I rate the game with two stars because even though the game looks and sounds great, and is very accesible, it is extremely repetitive and gets boring fast.
Rating: Summary: buy it!!!!!!!!!! Review: i like this game for lots of resons,but 1 i wish to share whith you all is the fact that you can do a real hunt, you can pick a nice spot, get comfortable, and kill, i love the ranged and magic abuilts. its nice to be with a party than alone in the woods or town, ext. for myself, i like going out in a party and gaining lvl when im exploring new dungoens.but, thats only 1 way to play, you wanna go at it alone, you can do it, you jus need the right stuff.remember, this game is not ment for just party fights, you can do it any way you want, and you dont have to stick with 1 skill. i like projectiles, so i use magic, and range, that helps the group alote, and its fun to explore alone. i hope you perchess this game , its is 1 of the most smothest graphice game on the market right now,and it has endless posobliltys, so i say again, buy, i say again , buy this game, its worht the money, and it will hold your entrest tell your old and grey. chris stevens.
