Summary: Mission Impossible meets the X-Files
Review: Well Well. Warren Spector is at it again. IN case you don't know Warren was the guy that brought us the Original System Shock as weel as the Ultima Underworld Series. This time around he brings us _Deus Ex_ . Set in the Future reminicent of so many futures that get portrayed, ie dark depressing and overrun by terrorists/freedom fighters, you play the role of J.C. Denton, a Kid fresh out of the United Nations Anti-Terrorist Co-OPerative, or UNATCO for short. You are the second in a new breed of agents. Your system is advanced via nano-augmentation. This allows for you to, with the correct augmentations, turn invisible, or be able to run super fast. You also have a collection of skills you can master, from weapons to hacking, to medical. All told there are 11 skills, and a bunch of places for augmentations to be added to your system as well. Your job is to try some _Mission Impossible_ type jobs, and there are always many ways to accomplish them. You can take the _Quake_ style approach, ie a full frontal assault, you can take the _Thief_ style approach, ie. sneak in, or sometimes you can even talk you way past. All in all a great game.

Review: Having the Voodoo3 3500, I didn't run into any of the frame rate problems others can have, but most people agree that one way or another this game is amazing. The only other 3Dshooter that could compare in quality upon release was Half-Life. Graphics, sound, animations, story, skill systems, interface and just about everything else were great. A major plus is the alternative endings and the options you get during gameplay. The only minor problem is the system requirements, but if your computer is relatively new, you'll most likely be able to pull through with acceptable FPS.

Summary: Try it out first
Review: Reviews can only tell you so much, and most of them either say that the product is really good or really bad. There is no substitute for the real thing. That said, download the demo of this game. Its a very good representation of how the game plays out, and also how the game will perform on your system. It includes a tutorial section for easily picking up how the game works, and then one full mission from the game. Its quite large at 130 megs, but get a program like GetRight and that won't be a problem. IMHO, the game rocks. one of the most original and replayable games out there. If I wanted to reply the game, I could play it in an entirely different way than I played it the first time. Most games that are "replayable" just adjust the difficulty to make the enemies have higher hit points, and the damage that your character takes is doubled or tripled. One last note: the demo only contains a small portion of the story, which is one of the best that I've seen in a computer game. The demo is mainly for seeing how it performs on your system, and if you enjoy the gameplay. I enjoyed it. Play System Shock 2 when you're done with playing Deus Ex (SS2 is a little better in my opinion).

Summary: Very Impressive..
Review: The first thing you should realize with this game is that it is NOT strictly a first person shooter.. it may look like one but please do not let that confuse you as to what this game ends up aspiring to. It is as far as I am concerned at the moment the finest version of a story driven first person game on the market, perhaps in general. Like a good movie this game will keep you on the edge of your seat right up to the excellent climactic finale(Finales?). In addition to this it looks beautiful especially if you have the hardware to run it. My only reservations throughout the entire game were that in some cases the AI could be a little dim witted... example of this are few and far between though and by no means hold up the flow of the game. I heartily recommend it to any and all who prefer the entertainment of a plot that actually manages to make you feel like you are part of the action to the mindless massacre games currently flooding the market.

Summary: A superb gaming experiance!
Review: Warren Spector's newest game is another masterpiece, equal in quality with his clasics System Shock and Ultima Underworld. This game mixes the best of Gibson's Nueromancer novels with, what I consider to be, real world consperacies such as secret societies and alien abduction. I consider Deus Ex to be an overall better product than most of its overhyped contemporaries, namely the second incarnation of the horned one known as Diablo. Dues Ex is certanly more original in theme than most rpgs available today, not that I have anything against the traditional fantasy genre. The game's interface is very intuitive and user-friendly and is rendered in a highly-modified version of the incredible Unreal engine. I realy have to comend the Ion Storm team for creating a game so interactive, non-linear, and downright addictive. I would recomend this game to anyone, especialy hardcore aficiandos of RPGs.

Summary: Great game, if your computer can handle it
Review: Deus Ex is an amazing game. It can't really be placed in any genre because it's just too innovative. You control J.C. Denton, a U.N. anti-terrorism soldier enhanced with the latest technology. You can customize your character with skills and augmentations, allowing you to choose if you want to approach situations as a super-strong monster with the power to take out a tank, or as a silent, invisible sniper who barely ever takes a shot. The plot is good, but not really anything new (government conspiricies, Area 51, etc), but it's told well, which makes it much more enjoyable. The only downside is that if you don't have plenty of memory and the latest graphic cards, you're at a disadvantage. If you only meet the games minimum requirements, get ready for choppy gameplay and loads of load time. In short, if your computer can handle it, Deus Ex is a great choice.

Summary: Great game but...
Review: If you are a fan of action/RPG type games, this is a must buy. The gameplay rocks, great storyline, nerve-racking sounds effects, the list goes on... BUT, buefore you go out and buy it, there are a few things you have to know. The game is written with the Unreal engine, meaning the graphics are not quite up to date with other 1st person shooters (ie. Unreal Tourney, Q3, even Rogue Spear's are better). Also this game has MASSIVE system requirements. Even on my Pentium 3 700, it doesn't run that well. (I do have an ATI Rage 128 Pro, which could be the problem) If you aren't running it in GLide, run it in OpenGL, because Direct3D looks like ass. Anyway, if you have been wating for the game for months (like me), its been a worthwhile wait, but if you've been meaning to upgrade your computer, you should do it BEFORE buying this game.

Summary: WARNING :Don't play unless you've got the next few days off!
Review: Deus Ex is an intricately detailed game that drops you into the near future, populated by robot sentry mechs, cyber-enhanced agents, and genetically-modified beasts. Futuristic visions of New York and Hong Kong are awe-inspiring and bring to mind movies like Akira and Bladerunner. The action involves interacting with the denizens of these living environments as well as sneaking in the shadows bypassing security consoles and data terminals. The most enjoyable feature of this game is the total freedom you have in accomplishing your missions. If you're trigger happy you can try to go in guns blazing. If you're a ninja-type you can silently take down guards and security systems. You also choose your ever growing list of skills and abilities as you pick up enhancements or mods along the way. All in all, if you like an intriguing story with equally intriguing gameplay, Deus Ex will satisfy all your needs.

Summary: Great Game, just a flaw or two
Review: First off, this is an excellent game. Make no mistake, this action/RPG is the best one out there, ranking up by System Shock and others. You get upgrades, experience points to work out skills. It may seem tricky at first, but once you get used to it, it's awesome. The voices are great, and they lip-sync in for the ultimate realism. The plot is very well done, but there seems to be a problem with the visuals. See, if you don't have the 3D card the game works best on, you'll majorly have to tone down graphics like I did. Make no mistake, if you have a Voodoo, you're alright, but anything else, like for me a NVidia Riva 128, you need to turn detail down. Of course, this doesn't detract from the game, and after all, if you're only after the game for good graphics, you need to rethink your purchases. If you like sci-fi, conspiracies, System Shock or Thief, this is an imperative purchase.

Summary: A GREAT Game......BUT.......
Review: THis really is a game that makes one think and act on knowledge as much as brawn. If you enjoyed Theif 2 or System shock then you are in for something FAR deeper than those games combined. BUT.......be warned...this game does not run well on systems not useing Voodoo based graphics cards. You need to really run this in Glide...Direct 3d makes it very unstable. If you can't get a good framerate this game is IMPOSSIBLE to play. Be warned.
