Summary: Overshadowed
Review: With the release of the highly anticipated sequel to the mega-popular Diablo, Diablo 2 and the release of much talked about Icewind Dale, along with mainstays like Legend of Kunark, you start to think maybe the the action/adventure game market is a little bloated. Deus Ex has not gotten a lot of hype and is so deserving of it. This is a great game for those of you that like action/adventure games and should certainly be vying for the top spot on the software charts, with the likes of the afformentioned Diablo 2 and Icewind Dale, as well as The Sims and Who Wants To Be a Millionaire Second Edition, but it's not. Pity, considering this game is as good, if not better than the rest of the pack. Get this game, and be pleasantly surprised. Hey, maybe Deus Ex 2 will get the attention a game like this deserves. Here's hoping.

Summary: Is Echelon reading this too?
Review: Almost 2 yrs ago, a game came out that changed First Person Shooters. 2 yrs later, no games have challenged Half-Life's legacy, until now. Sure, Soldier of Fortune had gore zones and fast paced action, but that was about it. Deus Ex is the only game that has... addicted me to again to the keyboard and mouse. The story behind DE is very involving, a little more so than HL even. I don't want to spoil the game, but DE oozes atmosphere, from the Statue of Liberty to the streets of Paris to a secret Area in the Nevada desert. The modified Unreal engine looks great whether in a sewer or MJ12 installation, the lighting and fogging effects are good, and the sound is very clear. About the only bad things I can say is that it takes a hefty system to run, I'd recommend at least a PIII 500 with Voodoo5 or Geforce1 or 2 card in there. There is a Direct3D patch out there for you non Voodoo card owners, like me. Just go to the Deus Ex main web site. Also, the AI was kind of buggy, sometimes forgiving and sometimes unmerciful. All in all though, the mixed in action and RPG elements like modifieable weapons and body parts make this one a definite one to get. PS- Stay away from Daikatana.

Summary: Runs Great on Windows 2000
Review: If you are running Win 2K then you know how few games run on the system. Deus Ex rocks on my system and is a great game to boot. I like the ability to go through problems as the hand of death or in stealth mode to achieve the objective. The AI of the bad guys is kind of lame -- you can chase guys with machine guns into a corner and beat them to death with a crowbar. If you grew up on System Shock and System Shock 2 you will find this game easy in comparison. Good game though, and I highly recommend it.

Summary: Very, Pleasantly Surprised
Review: I am highly pleased with this game! I don't usually go for the "First-Person" shooter games (except the R6 line) because I find the occultic atmosphere in them less than appealing. However, what made me buy this game was the fact that it doesn't involve supernatural concepts and there is no "one way" to play it. It all depends on your personality, so it makes for great re-playability. Other pluses include a FANTASTIC, unimaginable game engine with great ambience and a HIGHLY intriguing story-line. Deus's storyline is not so "futuristic" that it's hard to grasp, however. I've spent countless hours at Deus Ex Machina now and am fully satisfied in my purchase. The only drawback are the tech requirements. I'm using a PIII with 500mhz and 96megs of RAM, and I still get a little bit of etchy-ness. Other than that issue, this title is masterfully done. Definitely a must-own, even for those like myself who don't usually play this genre. One of the best games available!

Summary: If the demo is any indacation a must buy
Review: This game is ahead of its time (game play and requirements) I downloaded the demo after overcoming some miner problems I was addicted. You can be quite and sneak your way threw or you can run with guns blazing (not recommended). This game incorporates many nice features and graphics. In old games hacking a security system involved pressing the right button Not any more. I strongly suggest downloading the demo. It's 130 megs so get a program like Gozilla.

Summary: At the risk of being redundant...
Review: I realize many, many people have given Deus Ex five stars, but I simply cannot help myself. One of the best surprises I've had in computer gaming in quite a while.

In my mind, two things distinguish this game by from from the benchmark. The first is the detail. From conversations being held by various people to enormous maps to bits of newsprint scattered about, the game has gone to such lengths to create a complete world that upon completing it, I immediately began anew and discovered whole regions I hadn't noticed the first time. It's a pleasure to listen to the people around me actually interact in relevant, meaningful ways, and to be able learn what the press thinks. Without a doubt, a step in the right direction towards realism.

The second thing is the unfolding of the plot. The characters are developed uncommonly well, especially those who are not covered extensively. The writing is concise, providing a wealth of implication with each conversation (note that some characters, I felt, were just a tad 2-D - mainly Walton Simons). Thus, the game carefully crafts genuine moral dilemmas for the player to piece apart, instead of just aiming him forward and telling him 'fire at will.'

Of course, the graphics were quite good, using a clever in-engine cinematic system to make conversations more dramatic. And the object interaction was also above average (though showing its lineage to System Shock 2 quite clearly). But the above two reasons I specified were the reason the game drew me back in for a second round.

Summary: The Patch is Here
Review: I have a Pentium II 400 with the Maxi Gamer RIVA TNT2. When I first got this game it did run slow and would freeze up at the most inopertune times. But the patch is here and now the game works beautifully.

Now more on the game. It is a wonderful blend of roleplaying and 1st person shooter. While the story kind of drags on and the plot is perdictable. I did find game play challenging as well as exciting.

I suggest this to any roleplayer out there.

Summary: This game rocks!
Review: I love this game it is awsome but the system requirements are steep my pc barely goes over the minimum and the frame rate is slow becouse of that but this is still my favorite game the graphics are really great and the gameplay is sweet but make sure you have the right equipment to play the game first.

Summary: patch for D3D
Review: as noted above this is a great game for anyone interested in more than mindless shoot em up. one of the few problems was poor performance on non voodoo systems...

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Completely addicting! Wish I could give it 6 stars!
Review: I hate RPG's. Walk here, talk there, get a magic spell or treasure chest key..yawn..here comes the narcolepsy.

I love First Person Shooters though, and I bought this game blind on a whim, thinking that I'd get a hose-em-down game with a little twist of searching for stuff. I got WAY more than that.

Playing this game is incredibly involving and immersing. The conversations are intelligent without being boring. The weapons are awesome without being too far off the weird end, and the graphics are very good too.

The brilliant premise of a overreaching UN and patriotic US new revolutionaries, is frighteningly realistic, and make you really care about your character's well being. More than I few times I found myself hollering to the screen as I evaded withering troop fire, or Woo Hooing to an excellent sniper takedown (despite an ultra-realistic wiggling reticle caused by exertion)!

I've never been this captivated by a game this good in premise, storyline, action and being able to go to plan B or C before.

I haven't finished the game, but I know I'm gonna have to deal with more 3am bedtimes this week =:-o

For the love of God, buy this game.
