Summary: here's a hint on how to get #7 to work
Review: I got Might & Magic 7 to work by the following:

1. Right-click on the icon on your desktop and select Properties. Click on the Compatability tab. Click the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and pick Windows 95. Then click OK at the bottom.

2. Click START on your desktop. Select ALL PROGRAMS, then select 3DO, select Might and Magic VII, then Might and Magic VII Configuration Utility. Under Video, select Software 3D, then launch Might and Magic VII.

The sound for the game might not be perfect, but at least you get to play!! I love this game! You will want to play at least twice so you can choose the Light Path and the Dark Path.
If you do choose the Dark Path, be careful.. there is a bug in the game. There are two quests where you have to pick up "lich jars". It is best to get both sets of lich jars in your pack before you turn any of them in, because if you fulfill the wrong quest first the other set will never be there for you to find.

Summary: Why Isn't 3-DO helping solve the XP problem?????
Review: I have been playing these games for a hundred years and know every nook and cranny and unpublished hint. For years, I have purchased them for all of my grandchildren. WHY does the 3-DO Company not back up their product with a "patch" for the XP problem? I thought when you purchased a game, the company was responsible for support. Years ago I could call them and talk to the programmers. They have discontinued their web site and become invisible. I have invested much of my life trying to find solutions. Unfortunately, Windows XP is so controlling that you cannot buy a computer with aught else. I now own a Gateway and their solution was to contact the invisible 3-DO Company. I have tried every solution that I have found on the internet. I feel that I have lost a long-time friend and can no longer "fly".

Summary: The Classic in its most inexpensive form
Review: If you are interested in turn-based strategy games,
in mythical environments and if you like real artwork
(sounds and gragphics) then this compendium is for you.
The sequel will never be too old in my opinion.
You can always want to play it as you can play
chess over and over. And if you have never played
HOMM then you will have great savings. 6 games in
one! Replayability is almost infinite thanks to
random map generator and maps on the nets. Playing
it multiplayer is a lot fun. And the AI is very
challenging. Be prepared to sweat a lot if you
play a small map with impossible difficulty.
There are innumerable types of strategy's you
can develop and I really like to take up any
town in HOMM 3 and develop strategies accordingly.
Don't believe others claiming some towns are
clearly superior to others. There may be some
slight superiority on the average but what
is and must be superior is your strategy.
I have played HOMM 3 Restoration of
Erathia and Shadow of Death and some
HOMM 2. Yet now I also play HOMM 1 and 2
just for fun and it is very interesting.
And in HOMM 3 Armageddon's Blade you also
have the Conflux Town which adds to your
pleasure as the ninth town.
Final comment: The music, the artwork,
the replayability, the AI, the ambience,
overall general playability is near perfect.
Don't buy it if you have never played
it and you are a very busy person because
it is addictive! And you must be able
to control yourself!

Summary: WinXp Compatibility issues, Really just HARDWARE issues
Review: In regard to your problem. I had the same. I have found a solution.

First you need to do google search for a program called DeShrink V1.6.

Use this program to DeShrink the driver named MSS32.dll.

I have found that there are times when compatibility mode must be specified for ALL executables in ALL directories, including those on CD.

Before you install, search for and find ALL executables on BOTH CD's. On install cd mark all exe to either compatibility mode 95 or 98, I used 95. After this, remove cd then put cd back in so that your install prog starts automatically.

After install completes, insert play cd, cancel autoplay, change compatibility to ALL exe files on cd.

Then you must go to where game is installed and change compatibility to ALL exe files.

This is when you use DeShrinker prog.

There are a few other things you must do.

If you bios permits you to overclock your system, then you should also be able to UNDERclock my system is 2.6 I underclocked to 1.5, this solves the problem of your processor being to FAST for Might and Magic 6.

I also disabled my AGP acceleration in dxdiag
Start run dxdiag 3rd tab

ONE MORE THING IN DXDIAG, I ALSO MOVED SLIDER ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT TO DISABLE HARDWARE ACCELLERATION FOR AUDIO.

This solution works for me hope it helps out with this really good game.

PS. Please distribute this to others you know of who are experiencing the same problem

Summary: defrective product
Review: Misleading representation. I was unable to install a single one of the 4 games in this package on my ne Hewlett-Packard Model 793 xp computer. Amazon doesn't take software back. 3Do can't accept return because I bought game from Amazon.com. Best buy's techs never heard of game and sent me back to 3 DO. I bought my pc specifically to play M&M games I don't care for the more enhanced graphic rpg's with their funny looking little dummies for inventory. I feel cheated. I enjoyed M & M 6 and 7 on my win 98 machine and was looking forward to playing on new xp. Shame on Microsoft, Amazon ,Hp and 3Do.

Summary: Yes, it does run on XP
Review: Mr. illiterate reviewer says that this "wont not" run on XP. I can only say that you need some serious help. With your computer , that is. I have XP home and this whole package runs perfectly. Please do not mis-inform people. If this will not run on your XP system, just troubleshoot. It does support windows XP. Hope I've shed some light. Happy new year!

Summary: The entire series of one of the best RPGs next to DnD
Review: Taking a look at some other RPG series on the market, Final Fantasy, Baldurs Gate/Everwinter Nights, all that fun stuff, there comes to leave a genre of game that fits the RPG bill perfectly: Might and Magic. This is the best of the M&M series into 1 package.

MM6 - Although the dungeons were incredibly lengthly, and the character selection graphics funny, the game itself took me months to complete in its entirety.

MM7 - Easily the best of the M&M series, this game shows some of the best points an RPG can have, especially how you get your own castle and choose your side (good guy or bad guy). Another one that took me a month or two to complete.

MM8 - Not as good as story line as MM7, but the game engine features some impressive enhancements over MM6 and MM7 that make the game very worth while... Although, as soon as you get Dragons in your party, their strength alone allow you to be able to maul anything rather easily. Took me about four months on and off to play.

MM9 - New game engine, which was sparked by the complaigners getting what they wanted... This game wasn't as good as previous games, but the mechanics of the game somehow mutated the original M&M game elements into a more "fit for the future" perspective (ie: taking it into a more rigid hiearachyal system of advancements of character class). Although the graphics were nice and the game play wasnt really that bad, the game was easily completed in about a 2 weeks time, and the Lich advancement wasnt able to be reached until 3 dungeons till end of game (where as all other top character advancements were done easily within 7-10 dungeons of the last dungeon, ie: lich quest wasnt able to be completed until WAY TOO into the ending parts of the game). Not bad, but could of been much better.

Althought MM9 wasnt as good, Im looking forward for 3DO to make MM10 top of the mill... They have the engine made, all they need now is a killer storyline and some awesome graphics and it will be a 5 star....... if they take their time and do a good job.

Summary: A Worthy Compendium. . .
Review: The four most recent additions to the classic RPG franchise, "Might & Magic," bundled in one fairly priced compendium, make for an excellent purchase. While none of these games are, or ever have been, ground-shaking in terms of originality or graphical finesse, they make make up for their shortcomings with deceptively addictive gameplay. One of these games alone might be worth the price of admission (save perhaps for the disappointing 2002 installment, simply called "Might & Magic IX"), but combined, for fans of the genre and those "Might & Magic" die-hards, it's a splendid bundle worth your attentions.

Summary: Last of a great series
Review: The Might and Magic Platinum edition puts three of the best titles of this series together with the final title. FOR XP USERS : please make note.. These games can be played on XP, just install the program, right click on the icon on desktop, select properties. Click on "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select your favorite O/S - Win98/ME works well.

MM6 is by far the best of the lot, although a game within the game - Arcomage - a card game is built into MM7. MM9 was released too early so outside of better graphics there is much to be desired from the game itself. Despite the previous review, 3DO.com makes no distinction where you bought your game, the tech help remains excellent, plus they do have a message board that allows you to get game and tech help from other users.
