Rating: Summary: Fun to play, but... Review: I bought this expansion figuring that, like most expansions, it would increase the difficulty of the original game, like LOD did for D2. So, I began with my char from NWN, a 9/7 ranger/rogue. I found the whole first chapter and interlude WAY too easy (I guess they really want you to start a new char for this expansion). I'm hoping that it will get a bit more difficult, because it's hard to level up when you're getting meager experience points. Plus, you can no longer use your Stone of Recall; you get a ring at the beginning that sort of does the same thing, but it's only useful for Chapter 1. After that, you're on your own. That gripe aside, the game is fun to play. The new items and spells are a welcome addition. The new enemies are entertaining. The new henchmen are okay, but I find myself missing Daelen (man I loved him!). The graphics are great as well. Performance wise, the game isn't too wonderful. I had huge load times and there were a couple of instances where it wouldn't load at all (and I exceed the requirements for the game). I read on the support site that this is a problem with the CD protection; don't know for sure, but it sure is a pain! Bottom line, it's fun to play and a worthwhile addition to an already fantastic game!
Rating: Summary: So Disappointed Review: I can't believe I'm saying this about a Bioware game, but this expansion has got to be the "cheapest" (short, they say 20 hours long, but I completed the whole thing in less than 10 hours), most boring, most expensive $$ expansion they have ever released. I own practically every Bioware game ever made, and have loved every one of them... except for this one. I have downloaded and played mods that other players have created that were more exciting and more thoughtfully created that SoU. In my opinion, Bioware was in a hurry on this one, and let greed get in the way of creativity. All I can hope is that the next expansion is exciting, REPLAYABLE, LONGER!!!, and an all around better continuation of the NWN's story. If not, I will begin to wonder whether to spend any more money on Bioware creations.
Rating: Summary: This is awesome Review: I can't wait until I get it tomorrow. from what I've heard from the NWN community site, this is going to be THE BEST game I've ever bought. All of the new spells, feats, monsters, tilesets, classes and toolset tools, this is going to be a great gaming experience. I'm still disappointed that the epic levels won't come out until Hordes of the Underdark, though.
Rating: Summary: A disappointment in relation to the original Review: I found this expansion to be disappointing. I first tried the expansion with the character I finished the original with. I practically sleptwalked through the entire expansion. My paladin, approx lvl 20, and zero trouble going through it. Next, I tried it with a brand new character. First I tried a monk, and it was just too hard. Next, I tried another paladin, and it was still extremely difficult to get through it. So, for someone that was looking to move forward with a character that finished the orignal, I can't imagine this expansion will offer you ANY challenge. I think I finished the expansion in a few days. And if you want to start a new character, be prepared to really work your bottom off. Here's hoping the next expansion is better suited to either roll.

Rating: Summary: Does not really feel like an Add on... Review: I got this game as part of Neverwinter Gold. I have heard nothing bad about Neverwinter and with a second expansion coming out I bought Neverwinter Gold since it was the same price as Neverwinter. I finished Neverwinter Night last weekend. It was a great game. I love every part of it. It is the best representation of D&D in a computer game since the early days. But....Shadow of Undrentide is seriously lacking. First, you start out being "trained" as an adventurer. My character was twenty second level by the time I start this add on so I would hardly say that a player of that level would be in that situation. It seemed like the creators wanted this to be a separate game using the same game engine, but decided on an add on instead. This can be the only reason for the next flaw, which is they dump the hench men from the original for a new set which are seriously lacking the depth of the original ones. I only raise this issue b/c Bioware brings back the original Henchmen for the next add on; Hordes of the Underdark. So why else would they make this change in the middle? So in short, this is a fair enough game if you buy the Neverwinter Gold edition, but do not waste you money on buying it on its on. It is simply not worth the money. I gave it two stars since this add on has my favourite prestige class, the Blackguard. Buy it from the bargain bin.

Rating: Summary: i'm extremely happy with SOU - a must buy Review: i'm going to say it fast: if you thought NWN had potential, but wasn't everything you had hoped - buy this. this expansion is a huge step towards fully realizing the potential of NWN. the SOU campaign is far, far better than the original NWN OC. the characters you meet are much more realistic, fleshed out, and have a sense of complexity to them. the whole campaign is more challenging - the "normal" fights tend to be tough; the "boss" fights tend to be very, very challenging or impossible (if they are impossible, you have to find a special secret or solution to win); chests in town no longer contain magic items - they contain people's worthless junk; your alignment shifts properly when you steal, and gaurds will attack you if they see you breaking the law. in addition to the campaign, the new tilesets (specifically desert and ruins) look amazing. there are so many good new feats that SOU makes the game 100 times more complex. the new prestige classes are very popular and everyone is experimenting with them right now - shadowdancers and assassins are very popular. and finally, the new monsters look great, and are fun and challenging to fight. bioware has done an amazing job of giving the NWN communtiy *exactly* what they asked for: the feats, monsters, spells, and the kind of campaign that everyone wanted.
