Summary: If only George Lucas would play this game...
Review: I was recently given an XBOX by my girlfriend. After reading myriad glowing reviews, I decided to purchase KOTOR. Well, folks, the reviewers are right. This is a must-have. In fact, it is, along with HALO, reason enough to own an XBOX. The story is amazingly complex. The characters are fascinating. The non-linear play is stimulating. The possibilities are virtually endless. Whereas most games will give you 10-20 hours of play, KOTOR can give you upwards of 50, if you follow all the quests. Plus, you'll want to turn around and play it again, choosing a different path (you can play light-side, dark-side, or anywhere in-between). To tell the truth, although it's idiotic and I laughed at myself, I actually felt kind of guilty when playing the dark path--especially the Zalbar/Mission ending. (No spoilers; I promise). In any case, a previous reviewer said that this beats the 'Prequel' movies. That reviewer was right. If only George Lucas would give KOTOR a spin, so he could see what a story told with real passion and imagination could be like (as opposed to one filled with endless exposition and turgid dialogue). In fact, I wish he had hired the game's writers to 'help' him out with the last prequel (I know it's too late). It's no wonder 'Empire' was the best film in the series--he didn't direct it, and he only co-wrote it! Pros:

• Can't continue the game after final showdown (it would have been nice to finish missed quests, etc.)
• Occasional bugs (sometimes the main character decides to run around in a circle without gamepad input.)
• The mythical XBOX Live downloadable content has yet to materialize Final analysis: Buy it. Don't ask questions. Don't try to justify it. Just buy it.

Summary: Twitchy and boring
Review: All you guys who can't get this thing to work, download the patch again and play with your graphics options a bit. Should work fine. That said the game is kind of boring. Every time I meet an enemy, after firing off a few shots with blasters, I have to go into each character and change their weapons to swords...After doing this a thousand times, it gets pretty tedious. Now I just charge with the swords and take a few blasts. The characters pretty much hack every body up without much instruction. Some of the puzzles are redicous. To kill the rancor you have to put a bomb and some 'liquid' into a pile of dead corpses. Then the cutscene happens and the racor comes over and sniffs and the bomb blows the liquid into a gas that kills the rancor. How the hell is anyone going to figure that little 'easter egg' out without being told. Oh well, I've read you can lob bombs at it until he's dead. I guess the world in general gives me little movitivation to go on with the fantasy. Gameplay is just too boring.

1.Greater customization would have been good ( ex.You can wear Dark jedi knight and master clothing, but they look different on your character than on the NPCs. It would have been great if your character's clothing could be more like what the apprentices or what Darth Maul wore on Tatooine-Ep 1 / you get to wear Mandalorian armor but without the Fett Helmet which kind of sucks -though the assault armor is cool.)
2.I wish the game was longer with more planets and side missions.

Summary: CAN'T Stop playing it!
Review: I enjoy playing RPG's, but this is insane! I LOVE IT! I have played plenty of D&D using the D20 system, so I walked right into this game with an understanding of the rules. Take that, and add a great story, the Star Wars universe, and BAM! You have one fine game that you can't seem to put down.

Summary: One heck of a ride!
Review: What makes Knights of the Old Republic outstanding, in my opinion, is the telling of one of the most amazing stories that has ever graced a gaming industry. It is so good that Star Wars: Episode 1 and 2 paled in comparison. A great story is essential but if it is not fun, then it will end up being just a great movie and not video games. Knights, however, did not disappoint. It offers 30 hours of non-stop computer gaming goodness! Do yourself a favour and get the game and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime in that galaxy far, far away.

Summary: Best Game I've ever played
Review: This game is the best game I've ever played (and I've played lots). The story, the game mechanics, the atmosphere, the dialogue, the RPG aspects all combine to deliver a game that sets the standard for all other RPGs to follow. This is the first title that, upon completing it, I immediately started a new game.

Summary: DO NOT BUY!!! (if you don't have a strong computer)
Review: I have been waiting for this game for a year and a half, and I finally got it the other day. I installed it, installed the patch, and when I tried to launch it I was unsuccessful. The computer would try for a while and then it would just return to desktop or freeze. When I manage to launch the game I cannot get passed the main menu. I click on "NEW GAME" and the computer just freezes up. My configuration exceeds the minimum requirements by far, thus I was hugely frustrated by this. Then I dived into troubleshooting guidance. Along with the game you get a 22 page Word file dealing with problems, which is very ominous indication. Did not help. I turned to the Internet and found out that those 22 pages cover a small portion of problems people are experiencing. I wrote to the official support sites, and received no reply, which is no wonder. I guess the developers and publishers would have to hire a lot more people just to be able to respond to all complaints. A game with so many issues should have never reached the shelves. Now, I only wish I could ask myself if it was worth the trouble, but I can't since it was not. It took me a lot of restraint just to keep my language civil in writing this "review". Spare yourself from this nerve wrecking and stick to Morrowind. One star awarded, but it's the Death Star.
After installing Windows XP Service Pack, newest sound and graphic card drivers, and with the previously installed Patch I managed to start the game, and it runs pretty smoothly now. It is really a great game. Combat, story, and sound are excellent, although I think they went through too much trouble making sure that every character has their own voice over and lip sync. The graphics are decent, but I hate the fact that many unimportant NPCs look exactly the same, but this is bitching. My true objection is against the lack of freedom. I am not blood thirsty, but I would like to be able to attack anyone I choose (you only get combat options when someone hostile to you appears), and to go anywhere I want (I guess Morrowind really spoiled me). Environment could be more interactive too. All that aside this game is incredibly infectious, and I find myself loosing track of time while playing. My wife came to fetch me and get me to stop playing at 2 AM last night, and that hadn't happened for a long time (not even with Morrowind). Dialogues are occasionally very funny. I love it when they make fun of Bastila for loosing her light sword and getting captured. Choice between the dark and light is one of the best features.
Conclusion: Make sure you have the recommended (not minimum) computer configuration, newest drivers, and patched OS, and you can enjoy this game. If not, just forget about it and heed the title of this review. I am switching to 4 stars now.

Summary: AMAZING HAVENT ENJOYED A GAME THIS MUCH SINCE... WELL EVER
Review: This game is absolutel spectacular. Whether you're a big Star Wars fan or never even heard of Darth Vader you will love this game. I was a fan of Star Wars but not really so into it when I bought this game. And I really never got into RPG's before, I had tried Final Fantasy and stuff but lost patience quickly. But I have now played this game all the way through twice equaling over 50 hours of gameplay and I hate it for being over. I'm completey hooked and cannot wait for the next one. Its amazingly innovative and cool in terms of story and character development and how much variation there can be on what you do and how you go about the game. The graphics are ridiculous, but onyl if you've got the hardware - i'd recommend making sure you have the preferred stuff and not the minimum before buying this game - many of my friends tried running it on their PC's and ended up riping out clumps of hair. And i'm like many people and sometimes really really suck at games but this is not too difficult. It is in no means easy, but the obstacles are more inellectual than fast finger type shoot em up scenarios. Even with combat, you don't need to be fast or bang the mouse. If you have properly equipped and built up your character for the opponents you are facing you should be able to win with moderate ease. If you die, it's because you weren't ready for that bad guy, not because you can't mash buttons. I love the light/side dark side stuff - I played first and followed my gut to the light side, and then forced myself to be an absolute SOB the second time around and became a true sith lord. Both times were awesome and entertaining. My only complaint is that the game is a little weird with certain events that are triggered by reaching a certain conversation point with certain characters. Like certain things or people are supposed to show up in certain place after talking to person x for x amount of times but because you have already been there they do not. None of these roblems stop you from completing the game - they only affect sidequests but it could still be fixed. Other than that this game is flawless - buy it, beat it, beat it again, maybe again, maybe even again, keep it for nostalgia, and desperately wait for the second one like I am. BTW I have never written a review or a message on an online message board before or anything like that - I am so impressed by this game though that I did, and sent Lucas Arts an email too... I'm telling you its that good.

Summary: Great game, a bit buggy, but a great game!!!
Review: It's got a very good story, great character development, and the side quests are mixed. Even the voice acting and the dialog are quite good. The only thing keeping me from giving it five stars is the save system. Randomly, the game would lock up during the loading of a saved game and there was nothing to do but get out of the game and restart my computer.

Summary: A great deal of fun, but a few flaws
Review: Knights of the Old Republic is an exceptional role-playing game. Having played the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars RPG, and having massive amounts of fun with that, this game was easy to relate to, rule-wise.
First, I'll go over what disappointed me. I was kind of disappointed that I couldn't pick an alien species, but that's a minor detail. There are some obvious gameplay glitches that plague similar games. First, there's the ever-annoying situation when you get into a corner or small area, and your party members close in behind you and trap you in. I hate that. Second, at times in the last few areas of the game, the combat can get sloppy. Friendly NPCs will get in your way, and block you from helping them because of tight quarters. Combat gets a bit overwhelming with the large numbers coming up against you, and if you don't carefully manage the chaos, your party could quickly be chopped down by dark Jedi. There aren't any other spots in the game where the combat gets so hairy that you have to manage it like you do in the last level, which I suppose is kind of the point. Becuase of that, you're unprepared for it. SAVE OFTEN.
There was one flaw in the story : the parallels to the original Star Wars story are kind of obvious and stick out as this game's sore thumb for me. Yet another ultimate weapon and a Galactic Empire-like enemy who call themselves the Sith, even though I've always understood the term Sith to refer to Dark Jedi exclusively. Along with that come a Wookie addition to your party with his scoundrel partner, an astromech droid with a similar look to R2D2, although no counterpart protocol droid, which I was thankful for. Among more parallels are the Ebon Hawk, a vessel that looks very much like the Millenium Falcon, a maimed dark lord with an intimidating voice, a visit to Tatooine (Jawas and Sandpeople included), and a Jedi Master who is the same species as Yoda, and has a Frank Oz sound to his voice. Some of these parallels, in my opinion, could've easily been dropped and replaced with something less-obviously ripped from the original films.
The parallels, however, stop there. There are many unique aspects to the game, which, in my opinion were the redeeming factors, including a HUGE twist that you don't see coming. Kudos to the writer who came up with it (you'll know what I'm talking about when you get there). There are back stories for the NPCs, almost all of which you get to deal with in actual gameplay. Although, some of the banter between characters would come at inconvenient moments, when you are on a roll and want to finish a quest.
Along with killing off attacking fighters when flying the Ebon Hawk between systems, there's a mini-game involving racing swoops. They look like racing boats, and can get pretty fun to race, plus they pay a lot.
All in all, I had lots of fun with this game. The characters are lively and interesting, especially HK-47, my favorite character, and the unique planets with their unique aliens were fun to explore. Any fan of RPGs, Star Wars, or both will enjoy this game.
