Rating: Summary: Heroes4 get better Review: Buy this is you are jonesing to play...The complete heroes3 game is better. But this series will pass the latter after a few more expansions
Rating: Summary: Poor job by 3do. This is not Heroes, but a all new game. Review: I was upset and disapointed with this game. The change was far more then needed, or wanted. I wanted more of the same and yet 3do made a completely different game here. I have been playing Heroes for years and would not have paid the price for this game If I had known it was going to be so different. Sorry 3do but to me you screwed up big time with this one.
Rating: Summary: Give Them A Break Review: You have to forgive 3do. They just can't compete with a game like WarCraft3, or Unreal Tournament 2003. At the same time, though, they never claimed to. HOMM 4 is the BEST turn based RPG/Strategy out there. I've played every HOMM in the series, and each installment continues to bring the series to new heights. HOMM always has been a kind of underdog, never selling that many copies, but lots of people play it over and over again. Some improvements they've made are a 3D environment, a complete engine overhaul, completely new graphics, a new magic system, etc. They've added quite a bit for only one step in the series. So, should you buy this game, you ask? It depends, if you like a slower paced, tension built, time stealing kind of game, which requires a lot of thought, and intelligence, then you may have what it takes. Like I said, it's not a RTS, or a FPP Shooter either, so don't expect it to be.
Rating: Summary: A fun game Review: I never played the first 3 Heroes games, so I can't really draw a comparison. But I really enjoyed Heroes IV and am looking forward to getting the expansion.
Rating: Summary: Awful. Just awful. Review: This game is a slap in the face of existing Heroes fans. What were the programmers thinking? It's an absolute debacle! First of all, the combat is ridiculous. There's no hex grids, no room for tactics, and the concept of having heroes in battle, unless they are very powerful, is absurd since they are easily killed. Laying seige to a castle is a complete joke, since there's no way you can knock down walls (the only way through is the gate) and there's these ridiculous pillars behind the walls that give a huge advantage to the player who owns the castle. What's really missing in this game is immersion, which existed in both Heroes 2 & 3 and made them such excellent games. Heroes 4 however feels empty for a number of reasons. Buildings are ridiculously expensive. There's no more 'wait until the end of the week' for new creatures - they replenish sporadically. You must CHOOSE between which armies you'd like to have populate your castle, eg, choosing Champions means you can't have Angels, and choosing Monks means you can't have Crusaders. There's no upgrades possible for units. You just get them and away you go. The hero system is stupid and biased. When you're weak you too easy to kill, wheny you're strong you're too hard to kill. Learning skills takes forever and even at level 25 you've only learned half of what you're able to. The game looks too flashy and the layout is way too complicated. So much for simple looking graphics - it's hard to see exactly what's going on now. Ultimately, Heroes 4 is a total disaster with so many things wrong with it there's no way a Heroes fan could possibly like it. As for people giving it 5 stars... they're probably just looking for 'helpful votes'. Listen to the rest of the people who have bagged this game and AVOID IT ENTIRELY!
Rating: Summary: Not nearly as good as HOMM 3 Review: I am a huge HOMM fan, from version 2 and 3, and I must say that I'm very disappointed in the version 4 release. My biggest gripe is the combat screen. Gone are the strategies of well designed 2D combat map. It seems that they were too busy trying to update the graphics that they forgot how original and creative the old 2D battle map of HOMM 3 was. I use to love trying to protect my shooters by surrounding them with stronger units. Or trying to surround stronger enemy units so that they can only retaliate once per round, but you get in 3 or 4 different units to strike them down. All that seems to have gone away as enemy units can now simply fly over your protection, and half the time you can't figure out exactly what single pixel your cursor has to be over in order for you to strike the right enemy unit without wasting valuable movement walking around in circles to get at the enemy unit. It's a joke, this is a terrible game. And to release a game with no multiplayer capability in this age of the Internet. Give me a break. 3DO should be ashamed...and they have lost a die hard customer this time. Don't buy it! -Ryan
Rating: Summary: Taking away candies from children...... Review: I loved Homm3 even if it was quite easy to win against the computer. Some players claim that the AI targets there heroes and they die to easily. I really can't understand how you ever loose a hero in this game, they are all to powerfull. A barbarian fighting against 20 dragons? I think I will throw away all my arms to give them a fair chance... This game is to easy. Having a powerful hero you wander around the map collecting all the treasures. The AI will never attack you and wait when you have build up enough troops to attack his last castle. Wow what a challenge.... Videos as a reward for finishing a campaign? No way. Multiplayer sooooooooonnnnnnnnn........?????? There are some nice additions but with an AI as challenging as taking away candies from children you can't take it seriouly.
Rating: Summary: Don't believe zenphil: Heroes are plenty strong Review: After reading zenphil's comment I can only conclude that he is a lousy player. I'm just an average player myself, but I have played Heroes4 many, many times and have had no trouble at all keeping my heroes alive. He's simply wrong about the AI targeting your hero every time -- that's just not so. And if you develop your heroes properly, they can become awesomely powerful. It would be a shame if ill-considered criticism like this keeps you from playing this great game.
Rating: Summary: Great game ! One dissapointment. Review: I think this game needs to be the game of the year. OK, the graphics aren`t great but not bad either. I had played "Heroes of Might and magic III". It drived me crazy: one good step, win the battle and the victory is yours! Heroes IV is quite the same but it has more challenges, more options, more new characters and more monsters and different cities. The option to decide, which monsters you want to create in your cities, is nice too. I was very impressed that the heroes in the game can change their clsses to more advanced ones : like a soccerer becomes a fireguard and then becomes a warlock. So, what is my dissapointment from this game ? well, it might seem to you laughable, but I don't like that this game doesn't have monster upgrading. So "3DO" did it again with another great game. So, BUY THIS GAME!
Rating: Summary: This game would be AWESOME if the A.I. was a lot tougher! Review: I really love everything they did to Heros 4 except for the fact that the A.I. stinks. When I play Heros 3, I lose at least 50 percent of the time. However, when I play Heros 4, there is almost no possiblity to lose to the A.I. For that reason, this game is REALLY BORING. I was very disapointed. If they patched the A.I. it would really give new life to this game. But, this game might be a very fun multiplayer game. It's too bad they game makers are taking so long to make it a multiplayer game.
