Rating: Summary: Great Game!!!! Review: This game is great no questions asked, single player gets much more difficult from easy to hard and multiplayer is outstanding. If u find a vehicle or plane u can drive it, if in single player and AI is in it u can kick them out. I also recommend getting Battlecraft 42, look for a download online, its a great mapmaking addition to the game, make your own maps then play them.
Rating: Summary: Not Just For Broadband Review: This game Rocks and its not only for High speed internet users. Those who tell you you need a Cable or ADSL Modem haven't got a clue about how a computer works. Everything on BF 1942 is server side the actual amount of info that is passed back and forth is ver very small. Your system is the big factor in BF 1942. Processor Speed, memory, Hard Drive acsess speed and Video speed are all much more important than Connection speed. I play BF 1942 Multi Player on a 28.800 connection, I have my system Tweaked out and I get very little lag. I love it when those who have no clue about how the ineternet works scream at me because my ping is above 350, I laugh blow them away and increase my standing. If you are running a decent system (1.5 gig porcessor and 512 DDR with at least 128 of vedio mem) this game will run very well using Dial up.
Rating: Summary: one of the best WW2 games ever Review: okay, you want a great WW2 game, well here it is. just forget all the medal of honnor stuff, and go to this. it blows it out of the water. its so realistic. the game play is great. it takes a bit to get use to the controls, but after a while you will have it mastered. The bots on the game are pretty easy to beat, they even sometimes run right by you not even paying attention to you. but over all they can give you a challenge. but the high light of this game, the multiplayer. you get to go online and play with up to 60 other people. its great and a lot of fun. so if you are looking for a great game, well here it is. and the expansion pack makes it even better.
Rating: Summary: TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: THIS GAME IS GREAT Review: Well ive played some great war game befor but this is by far the greatest. After buying this game and installing it i learned 1 thing, well two. *This game is great *PRACTICE PRACTIC PRACTICE. You must know your history, on some of the levels such as Omaha Beach, it shows the level with u-boats washed on the shore, wich was what really happened. Nearly everything is perfect to actual events, while some things have been add to create a better fun factor for gamers, example; more tanks on levels where there was really only 1 tank, or no tanks or vehicles. \ Playing this game takes learned skill. Flying planes for example is hard as heck the first time around, when i first started flying it was ugly , still is, but im alot beter. If you are really having problems go online and play, watch how the pro players fly and ask questions.
Rating: Summary: Fun, but only after adjusting to the lameness Review: Battlefield 1942: Single player: * No gore. A disturbing trend in WW2 games: bloodless war. I guess we can't make our kids think war is cool and send them off to Iraq if we let them see war as hell. * Horrible enemy AI. Either the bots can't see you and you can shoot them in the back as they run past you, or they see you from so far away that they appear to be only a few pixels high right as they snipe your head off. It seems that the bots have a higher desire to get to the machine gun emplacements than to shoot a potential enemy. If you stand near some machine guns, bots will run past you to get to the guns, and then you can pop them in the head. * Horrible ally AI. They refuse to push forward. You end up doing all the work with moving your team towards the next control point, which means you get to die over and over from lack of support from your teammates. It also means you need to have a large number of bots set up to keep your control points defended. * No "reload" feedback. There is absolutely no feedback to tell you that you're out of ammo. No click. No nothing. Your weapon just doesn't fire. You also don't automatically reload when you're out, which might be slightly more realistic, but certainly doesn't increase the fun factor. You must keep your eye on the ammo counter at all times. * You can pick up different kits, but you can't pick up additional ammo for your current weapon. You have to get to an ammo box. * Domination type games only: The only type of game you can play is domination, where there are "control points" that each team must control to gain (or in this case, lose) points. There is no deathmatch, capture the flag, rabbit, assault, or any of the other game types that can be found in other multiplayer FPSs. * Battlefields only. There is no clearing buildings in BF1942. You will be fighting on an open battlefield in the outdoors. There are some simple buildings in Berlin and Stalingrad, but the AI refuses to use them. The enemy will always be outdoors. * Poor hit detection. I've fired several rounds into an enemy with a sniper rifle and I KNOW I've hit them, but hits aren't registered. Other times, it takes two shots to kill them, or one head shot. * Impossible to fly planes. Perhaps this is an acquired skill, but I can't get the planes to do anything for me. I end up flying off the map or crashing; I can't get anywhere near a target. The AI seems to use them well enough though. * Some boats seem to be impossible to exit if you're on them by yourself. Frustrating. * Disappointing Omaha Beach map. Not even close. After a while, you get used to these problems, and the game can be fun with the correct difficulty settings for your battles. It takes a lot of experimentation, but it really gets fun after you figure out how to set up the battle properly for the given map (and you don't expect much from the AI). The graphics are usually excellent, with some minor glitches here and there. * Multiplayer: Every time I try to play a multiplayer game I get an error message about receiving bad data. I can not join any internet servers. I suspect this is because I have the brand new 1.5 version and most other people haven't upgraded yet. I have yet to try BF1942 at the LAN. Overall. 2.5 stars. It's fun, but only after experiencing much frustration and disbelief at some of the poor choice in game design that were made. Requires you to learn how to set up the battle parameters correctly to extract enjoyment out of it.
Rating: Summary: Just adding to the fun! Review: Secret Weapons is the second expansion pack in this popular series. I believe this one is better than "The Road To Rome". You have more new maps, more weapons and more vehicles. There are 8 or 9 new maps you can play on instant battle or on-line, though it seems 2 or 3 of the new maps are quite laggy when your not playing on-line. But the new maps are very cool are harder to beat than the original maps. and some of these maps have an awesome feel to them. A couple of maps take place at night, and when you are coming up on the battle from a distance and see mortar shells lighting up the night sky and here the Stealth Bomber but can't see it until it passes by a moon lit cloud, it is absolutely awesome. There are only a of things I don't like. One, you can hardly ever find these new maps in an on-line game. Two, some of the new vehicles (like one of the new allie tanks), you drive and have turret to fire from, but the other guy rides in the top of the tank gets unleash a barrage of missiles and only he gets the credit for it. Three, I still don't like when your reinforcement ticket counts down because you don't have half of the flags covered. I can see it counting down if you own all except the main flag, but not for half. Other than that, this game offers more to this fun game. And with the release of new patches (it has become easier to download them finally), they give you new maps. The most recent new map, Attack of The Phillipines, is very cool. There are at least 4 new maps I have seen, so hopefuly they keep releasing new ones (though you can only play these on-line), So buy this and enjoy.
Rating: Summary: best experience ever Review: First of all, this game is not a great single player game. Not bad but not great. This game was made for multiplayer. There is nothing more gratifying than watching a battle unfold right before your eyes, and your a part of it. Start as a scout and if your tired of wolking hop in a tank and blast away. DO NOT LET THIS GAME PASS YOU BY!!!
Rating: Summary: Worst single player imaginable!!! Review: Simple, where i used to live i didn't have internet, DONT BUY THIS GAME FOR THE SINGLE PLAYER!!! The AI's are more stupid than my mom's dog, litteraly. I know i have a great machine. In a single player game the bots usually just sit in one spot and twitch! or they will pick you off from across the battle field. There is nothing to the single player game. It sucks!!!!
Rating: Summary: Takes Battlefield 1942 too far from reality Review: It is too bad EA Games went down the path of sci fi. It has alienated people who were fine with the reality level in the earlier two releases.
