Summary: should have worked better
Review: This game had a lot of potential. It had an interesting premise, cool weapons, lots of bad guys, cool landscapes, etc.....

But the game just didn't seem to work despite all the parts. The action was done in sequences, where invariably music will start and enemies will attack you. The levels don't have a lot to them, mainly involving killing enemies then moving to the next level. the plot also has a tendency to vanish at times.

This is a pretty game and has some interesting parts, but just didn't keep me interested to the end.

Summary: This game ROCKS!!!!!!!!
Review: This game has no clever plots or story lines. What it does have is some of the best FSP action so far this year. Pure mayhem as you rampage through level after level of the undead. The music and sound tracks also kick.
This is a run and gun title where you must run to survive. You stay in one place to long and your fresh meat for hells minions.
I like this game much better than Far Cry. Far cry is way to hard to be much fun, even ran on the easiest level.
This game may have beat Doom 3 to the punch.
This pure first shooter action at it's best. If your looking for puzzles go play MYST.

Review: This game has some serious issues. I'm experiencing so many problems to get this game to run. Also, it will locked up my computer when I exit the game to Windows. Just goes to their Dreamcatcher's website and see all the problems that some of the people are having. Hopefully, the fix that is scheduled for release on th 19th will resolve these major glitches.

Summary: Even though the game is not OUT YET...
Review: This game is a blast from Quake's past.

I am rather surprised to see so many customer reviews of a game that has not even gone gold yet. Additionally, I am NOT very surprised to see "thinking man" shooter fans bashing a game, which, by design, is a brainless, arcade, and FUN distraction. Thankfully, you cannot compare this game to the "been there, done that" mainstream creativity pit that tactical shooting games have mostly fallen into lately. Comfortable game development often doesn't lead to innovation.

Believe it or not, folks, not ALL of us are blindly in love with mainstream titles like Battlefield, Counter Strike, or America's Army. For us (and quite a few others), there is Painkiller, and the game delivers very well... or so I believe. Like the others that have posted reviews bashing this game, I have only played the fabulous demo at this point. My verdict is this: This is better than Serious Sam and Quake, but right up their ally. That's a good thing.

Summary: Doom III concept + Half Life 2 engine = PAINKILLER
Review: This game is awesome... When I was playing this game I felt like playing continuation of QUAKE 1. Weapons are very usefull, you can use them to make frenzy combos. Graphical Painkiller must be similiar to HL2, it use Havoc 2 at least. Do you wait for HALF LIFE 2 and DOOM III ? Check PAINKILLER, you should be satisfied.

Review: this game is so bad. thank god i didnt pay full price for it when it first came out. but its not worth the $20 i paid for it either.
from the video in the beginning its a little dumb and cheesey, but i figured, oh well, ive played cheesey games before.
the command screen pops up next and it seemed way outdated. its the age of Doom 3 and Half-Life 2. where did this come from??
you start playing the game, and you just show up in some graveyard, having no idea what you're doing. you walk around a little bit, some music comes on, evil skeleton-knight kinda guys pop up and you run around and hack em up. not bad. you kill a few, parts of the wall open, and you move on. ok. this repeats itself about 5 times. now im starting to get the idea...this game is just horrible.
i made it to the second level, killed a few guys, and got disgusted. this is mindless killing at its greatest. there are no puzzles, no strategy, no skill required (as far as i got, but im willing to bet it doesnt get better).
now i didnt expect a mindblowing game, just something to pass a little time. but this was way below my lowest expectations. the FPS 'Breed" set that standard. man, i thought that game was bad. but atleast i finished it before i traded it in. this game is the first that ill be getting rid of before playing it all the way through.
the Painkiller weapon is cool and the shotgun is so-so. i wouldve like to see the other weapons, but it was too unbearable.
from these other reviews i had decent hopes. but i forgot my principle rule, dont trust critics. thats kinda funny for those of you who read my review. well, see for yourself.
hopefully FarCry ends up being good...

Summary: Doom revisted
Review: This game is totaly retro. Yes, the monsters are mindless and will chase you in single file instead of flanking you; Yes, if you can run backwards and shoot you can kill all the monsters chasing you; And yes, this game is so 1993 but you know what? It's wonderful. If you like the old school Quake, Serious Sam, and Doom genre, you'll love this game.

Some game these days are too complicated to figure out. If you like strategy then this game isn't for you. The fun factor of this game is top notch. If you're looking for some mindless blowing up of monsters after a long day then let it rip :)

Summary: Entertaining Serious Sam/Quake clone
Review: This game takes a lot from games like Serious Sam, Quake, and Will Rock. There are countless frenzied enemies rushing towards you inwhich you have to haplessly slaughter while using various firearms. The story is pretty "eh" but that's to be expected from these types of FPSs. Also, the downloaded patch required to play is kind of large.

The weapons, albeit limited, are pretty nice, except they could have been better geared towards massive combat. More weapons and ammo placement within levels would have been a major plus.

Graphics in this game are gorgeous and really set the mood, but require a pretty hefty system. I had to turn down a lot of the graphical settings on my P4 3Ghz/1024MB DDR PC3200 RAM/FX5700 256MB system. The physics system is amazing.

Sounds and music are great and fitting. The metal soundtrack and spooky ambient sounds/music really make you feel as if you're kicking butt in Hell.

The controls are okay but the keyboard movements (walking, etc) are rather sluggish.

This game is worth the money as it's pretty fun, but don't drop anywhere near $35 unless you have a rather hefty system and like mindless massive firearm combat in Hell.

Summary: Mindless, Brainless and Wonderful Fun
Review: This games is simply fun. It's not dumb but it veers away from the recent trend in first person shooters by eschewing complex controls, stealth and in game objectives and instead has one simple premise....if it moves, shoot it.

That sounds simplistic but the game handles the premise so very well that instead it basically distills everything down to pure fun.

The storyline is simple but effective: You are Daniel Garner, who died in a car accident while taking his girlfriend out for her birthday. Trapped in a place between Heaven and Hell, you struggle to uncover the reasons why you are denied entry into Heaven, the only place where you will see your loved one again. Sent on a mission to assassinate four of Satan's men, you become Heaven's hitman. I can do that.

What unfolds is rather majestic in its scope and execution. The game just looks fabulous and with the Havok engine, the environment opponents' bodies fly back, twisting and turning as you shoot them, realistically smashing into doors and other objects. There were times when I had finished off the enemies in some areas when I would just walk around shooting things to watch the effects, it's that impressive. And when you're blasting enemies, there'll be times when you just stop to watch your assailant soar through the air before continuing to the next one. The weapon sounds sound great so you can almost feel the impact of your weapons.

What really impressed me was the level design. We've all seen the endless corridors and rather staid levels in many FPS games but Painkiller takes level design to a new level, no pun intended. There's such a bizarre variety of levels, from Insane Asylums to an Opera House to an Abandoned Military Base to an Old Refinery to. you get the idea. It's creative and feels right in this game.

And speaking of levels, the end game level in Hell has to be seen to be believed. The designer put together a level that in my humble opinion would be worthy of a cinematic treatment. It's a great interpretation of what hell could be, based on the way humans have lived much of their lives.

So, get this one and as long as you aren't in need of the realistic tactical shooter type game, you'll have a blast. I know I did.
