Summary: Buyers beware this game does not read in all CDroms
Review: I'd drop a review letting you know a nasty little situation that I and other users have come across with certain games that uses the newest form of copy protection (I'm not sure what its called since info like that is hard to find). It seems that No One Lives Forever 2 and The Thing both use the same new copy protection that results in the CD being unreadable in several CDrom models such as the "Samsung SD-616F DVD drive" and "creative 52x cdrom" and I am sure there are other effected models...

Oh P.S. Thus far firmware upgrades to the Cdrom hardware have not solved the problem and as of this letter Samsung has issued no information regarding firmware updates to solve this issue, their last firmware was 7/2002. With this type of issue simple game patches will not repair this either since the cdrom will not even read the CD

Summary: Big shoes to fill
Review: NOLF 1 is in my top 10 of video games, so I knew NOLF 2 would have big shoes to fill. I'm happy to say that the sequel is an excellent followup.

Like the original, NOLF 2 pits sexy superspy Cate Archer against HARM, the nefarious and bumbling crime syndicate. It has the dry humor and campy style that made the first one a hoot to play. As before, half of the thrill is sneaking up on enemies and listening to their hilarious conversations as they complain about their employer, bicker about work assignments, and gossip about other villainous organizations.

NOLF 2 features a gorgeous graphics engine that uses the newer video cards' transform & lighting (T&L) capabilities to produce eyepopping textures, stunning water and fog, and beautiful special effects. I was impressed at how detailed the characters look in the cut scenes. In the opening menu, Cate sashays onto the screen, poses like a runway model, and struts off again. When NPCs talk in cut scenes, they make realistic expressions. You can actually read fear, surprise, digust, and impatience on their faces.

The gameplay is outstanding with plenty of weapons to play with and a crisp plot. You travel to exotic locales including Siberia, Calcutta, and a secret base on the ocean's floor.

The only disappointment with NOLF 2, for which I deducted a star, is that it is much shorter than the original. Whereas The Operative featured many short levels, A Spy in HARM's Way has 14 sprawling levels. It took me about half the time to finish this one compared to its predecessor. When a game is this good, it leaves you wanting more.

Summary: good, clean fun
Review: I like this game no matter what the people at the forum say. It is being critizied because it is shorter than the original, but that seems to be the norm now. I think it improves on the original in almost every way: graphics, AI, stealth sequences, action sequences, and skill points. It just isn't as revolutionary as the original, so it doesn't get 5 stars.

It also has a few other problems that keep it from getting 5 stars:

1. there are some parts where going in guns blazing is your only option, this wouldn't be such a problem if you didn't have skill points. But it is really hard to take on a hoard of ninjas when you have put all your skill points into stealth, it also seems that you HAVE to put some points in your armor skill and health skill to even beat the game.

2.The siberia mission: it wasn't bad, it just wasn't excellent, it got better as you get to the end of it

3. respawning guards, this doesn't seem much of a big deal to me as it did to the people in the forum. The only time this got annoying was in the siberia mission, The other times it wasn't that big a deal.

4. multiplay, I love co-op but they should have included more missions

Things that make this the one of best action games of the year:
1.the action sequences are some of the best of the year, just as gripping as the original nolf
2.the ending level is extraordinary, enough said
3. the music is excellent
4.the cutscenes are the best in-game engine cutscenes of the year
5. the jupiter engine is best use of the lithtech engine ever, looking better than the quake 3 engine
6. the replay value of this one make this just as long as the original
7. stealth sequences are also very fun, the AI is DEVIOUS

That is all I can say without taking up the maximum of 1000 words

I enjoyed this game because I didn't expect it to be exactly like the original. If you were a fan of the original and live by it, you may not like this game. I enjoyed it totally though.

Summary: Cate the Great!
Review: Another great Cate adventure! This time around Cate Archer's voice is performed by Pam Grier ( or maybe ex-football great Rosie Grier?). Anyway, take the adventure where Cate foils mimes, eats liver, baths the elderly and even takes an SAT exam !! Not for the faint of heart !! Buy it BEAAATCH!!

Summary: Seqeal to the game of the year!
Review: This game is great! It has some of the best graphics and the levels are huge! The singleplayer missions are fun and long. It will keep you playing for hours! The only thing that is CURRENTLY wrong with the game is that the multiplayer isn't the best but an upcoming patch will add more features to it and there is no editor out for it yet. But the developers say it will be out really soon! O yeah dont buy this game if you are a action only gamer, go get unreal tournement or something. Dont get me wrong this game has tons of action! But just like other spy games there is about 5 levels that dont have much action it. This game is a most own for anybody who has a pc!

Summary: Decent, but pretty disappointing.
Review: This is a slick, good-looking game with good gameplay. Unfortunately, it doesn't end up improving on the original much other than in the graphics department, and in some ways is worse. What follows is an unabashed whine-sessions about what's wrong with the game.

The game is pretty short. I finished it in two (admittedly long) evenings, and a good chunk of that was spent waiting through the intolerable load-times.

The promising skill-system is a big letdown. It doesn't really make for a big difference in how you approach problems; it just means doing everything a little better as the game goes on. It's mostly just a substitute for the "bigger guns for bigger enemies" system that most games use.

The AI IS nice, and the much-hyped tasking system is a good idea. Unfortunately, outside the handful of levels in which you may be observing guards outdoors for a long time, it doesn't make much difference since you'll put a bullet in everybody you see the moment you spot them.

Although the game does have a lot of "gadgets" and ammo-types, there's almost no reason to use most of them. Why stun somebody with a million kinds of grenades (which usually bounced back in my face anyway) when you can solve the problem instantly with hot lead? The only reason to vary your approach would be to save ammo, which is very rarely in short supply.

Too many bad levels. There are some cool levels with some cool goals, but there's just too much walking around performing trivial tasks. This game has the most irritating scavenger-hunts I've ever found in a game; it seems like there must've been about 6 points in the game where I was about to quit the game to avoid punching a hole in my monitor because I couldn't find my goal. This incredible aggravation has to knock down the game a star all by itself. At times I felt like the game wasn't even worth it. And when one of these problems involves dying repeatedly... Well, get a book, because you're going to be doing a lot of waiting. Maybe I'll give the game another try later, now that I know how to get through it without all the frustration.

On the other hand, the first game was good, and this can be considered about the same but better looking. Some chapters, like the Siberian mission, are excellent. So it still gets three stars. But the innovations don't go as far as hoped for, and the aggravation of the key-hunts was too much for me to stand, though maybe someone with a better sense of direction wouldn't have as much trouble.

Summary: Cate archer will live forever....
Review: The sleeper hit of 2000 has an update. And an AMAZING one at that. I played the full version (through about 7 missions so far....) and i must say i am floored by the beauty of the scenery, the humor of the writing, and possibly the best vocal acting and lip-syncing yet. But, let's not forget, is it fun?Absolutely!Even if you haven't played the first game you can slip into this easily. However, i would recommend playing the first game before this one so you do not miss out on any of the call-backs to the origional game. Some of them are totally hilarious. Smooth graphics on an athlon 900, 1 gig ram(pc 133)& a geforce 4 4200 video card. A little power, but nowhere near a killer rig. Low system requirements and incredible fun make this a five star must have!!!

Review: I agree with everyone that the game is superb, blah blah blah & all the hype!
But just a reminder:
NEVER RUN THIS GAME ON A POOR MACHINE!
you will need a very fast machine to see the game in perfect action.
I think the game's requirements is a bit HIGH.
For example they(the developers) suggest you use a Pentium4 for High details.
Yeah like i can afford that!

Summary: Check system requirements before purchasing
Review: I loved NOLF and couldn't wait for NOLF2. What a big let down when I discovered I won't be able to play. Check the system requirements, and you'll find that your video card must support T&L (transform and lighting). Granted, my system is almost 2 yrs.old now, but with an AMD 1 gig processor, 512 mb memory, and a nvidia tnt2 video card, I've never had problems playing a game until now. So unless your system is very new, or you've recently upgraded your video card, you're out of luck.
