Summary: Very, very cool.
Review: This game is uniqe. It's an adventure game with 3D graphics and lots of cutscenes that add to the fun of the game. It is very challenging and I must admit that I have used a lot of help with it because some puzzles are so bizarre, but when I eventually figure them out, everything is somewhat logical, however strange it is. This sits right next to Riven and Obsidian at the top of my "best adventure game" list. I would recommend this to anyone who loves adventure games and to anyone who can think "out of the box" easily. The price is nice and cheap for the game which seems that it should cost more (having 2 cds).

Summary: A Lucasarts Classic
Review: Usually when someone says classic you probably think of EGA graphics, a text parser and internal music being played. However this is one of those 'instant classics' something that is so good that you could play it this year and the next and the next and you can tell from playin the first time.

Grim Fandango departs from the traditional point and click 2D interface and goes to a keyboard/joystick controled 3D interface. However, don't let the transition fool you. The game is top notch, the graphics are best ever (now with the 3D) and the music is a brillant mix of jazz and mexican and it sounds great.

However, graphics and music mean only little to an adventure game which is based on plot. The plot is great and is hilarous especially for fans of film noir.

To sum up, with excellent graphics and music and a great plot this game is not to be missed by anyone, especially adventure players...

Summary: This game is Fantastic!
Review: If you like games like Myst, Riven, 7th Guest, 11th Hour, etc. You'll LOVE this game. It's a long-playing, challenging game that has kept me thoroughly entertained for nearly a month now. Grim plays like a good movie. The story is fasinating, and could easily be a movie. I highly recommend this game.

Summary: Extremely well written
Review: It's a rare thing to see a computer game that's actually better written than most movies and books, which is why Grim Fandango comes as a suprise to most people. The plot is wildely original: you're a sales person in the Land of the Dead where you sell luxury packages to souls on their four-year journey to eternal rest. Of course, something rotten is up and it's up to you to solve the puzzles.

Being an adventure game, there are tons of puzzle to solve and exotic locations to visit which makes this game dangerously addictive ("just one more puzzle before I turn the computer off"). The dialogue is witty and extremely well written, which paired with the great graphics and amazing sound really makes the game come to life. (no pun intended)

I can find no faults with this game, it really is quite excellent. It's rare that you'll find a game that's this well written, so do yourself a favor and get this game. You'll never go back to mindless games like Quake again.

Summary: Fun, Challenging, Outrageously Stylish Adventure Game
Review: At [the price], this package is the best deal in gaming. Don't worry about it being the "Jewel Case" version; I don't know what's in the more expensive boxed version, but it's nothing you need to play, enjoy of the hell out of, and win the game.

The other reviewers have all been spot-on about the quality of these puzzles and characters and of the gameplay in general. I'll add that the WRITING is fantastic, full of one-liners and hilarious dialogue that puts almost all TV scripts to shame. The plot is highly original, full of unique ideas, and the wonderful combination of genres that makes up Manny's world is uncanny. It's not just film noir in the Land of the Dead; it's also high seas adventure, a beatnik cafe, labor unrest, giant cat racing...and somehow it all fits together seamlessly. I guarantee that the transition between Year One and Year Two will have you laughing with delight. Buy this. Stuff your loved ones' stockings with it. Have fun.

Summary: A Wildly Imaginative and Fun Adventure Game
Review: I prefer character driven, inventory-based adventure games over "kill everything in sight" shoot-em-ups. I like to use my brain, and I like to get immersed in a story. Unfortunately, there aren't many titles available that fit this bill, and there are a lot of turkeys out there. Not so, with GRIM FANDANGO. This wonderful game combines the surreal imagery of Mayan and Aztec art with the look and feel of a 1940's crime thriller. It has a genuinely funny script, challenging, but not impossible puzzles, and a terrific jazz soundtrack. Mixed into the story line are homages to Casablanca, The Petrified Forest, The Big Sleep, and dozens of other film noir classics. If you haven't tried this game, do yourself a favor and pick it up. You're in for a treat!

Summary: One of the most fun games I've ever played!
Review: I've was looking for something a little different. Are you getting tired of the same old games? Try this one. I did. All I can say is it's a lot of fun and very different. It comes with a touch of humor. I wish they would come out with a second addition.

Summary: Great Fun! Film Noir, Snappy dialog and good puzzles
Review: What a treat this was to play! If you want to test your brain, enjoy wonderful music and graphics, you'll love this. Definetly not for the "Hack and Slash" minded.

There's an update you can download from Lucasarts if you have a fast computer (it tends to crash with fast systems)

Enjoy the ride! Manny Calaveras is a great character to play.

Summary: Probably one of the best adventure games ever made
Review: I was very dubious when I started playing Grim Fandango. An adventure game with polygons? And the SCUMM menu interface system that was in every single past Lucasarts adventure game was gone? But I gave it a try. Thank goodness I did.

Grim Fandango is a story about Manny Calavera, a travel agent for the souls of the dead. He sells packages to the departed for their four year journey to their just rewards, and if he sells enough he can earn enough to make his own trip someday.

Imagine the theme of Casablanca with some mexican folklore and Mayan art thrown in for fun. Add big orange demons, hot rods, killer beavers, cat races, and the grim reaper and you have Grim Fandango.

The story is supurb and the voice acting was top notch. It's very difficult to do a dramatic yet humorous story, but somehow this game pulls it off. Grim Fandango could yank me to the brink of tears one moment and cause me to almost bust a gut another.

The things that make a good adventure game are all there. Logical puzzles that don't cause your gameplay to come to a standstill until you solve them, good acting, good animation, and good code! If I were ever forced to reccomend only on adventure game to someone, this would be it! Especially at the new low price!
