Rating: Summary: Ultimately, disappointed Review: This is the one we've all been waiting for- too bad it fell short in a few arenas. First- I'm an old-school Pen&Paper guy, and the thing I really like the best about the ol' PnP is the ROLEplaying. I think my biggest disappointment in NWN is the vastly reduced Skill set. They basically threw out all the skills that did not relate to combat somehow. Which comes to my point- although the story is pretty good in some ways (but not close to Baldurs Gate), it seems like the story is just sitting on top of a hackfest framework. There are other things I don't like, but I think what I really really miss is having skills like "Profession(innkeeper)" and Wilderness Lore at my disposal, and so on. (And why the heck is the Healing skill as powerful as the "Heal" spell? ) There are a lot of great things about this game, that maybe would't be noticed by people who haven't played 3e pen&paper yet. The user interface is truly awesome, as are the graphics. The story is very good too, though not unsurpassed i.e.BG2. The versatility of the game may be its biggest strength; it can act as a massively multiplayer, or a cozy party dungeoncrawl, or a great singleplayer game. I'm not asking for a miracle. I don't need a 'z' axis, robes, or advanced illusions. But I guess I WAS just hoping for a little bit more.
Rating: Summary: It stinks Review: The single player stoyline is boring, boring, boring. That's all I can say. All you do is run around and smash open boxes with the help of your zombie like henchman. No party, no great story line like BGII. This game is almost as boring as the hated Pool Of Radience. Taking out the single player party interaction was a big mistake. Most of us have a life and don't have time to hook up with people online for regular gameplay. So this is a online-gaming-fanantic-need-only-apply game. The graphics are pretty good, but nothing can save it from 1 star.
Rating: Summary: Great play but not hassle free... Review: Neverwinter Nights is a great Dungeons & Dragons RPG that blends the 3rd Edition D&D rules and great storyline with some plot twists and certianly a great set-up for future sequels. The downside is periodic crashing (especially with wireless ethernet cards), slow transitions between map sections, saving/loading, etc., and having only one henchmen at a time. However overall it is very playable with many hours of enjoyment to be had.
Rating: Summary: A Major Disappointment Review: I've played all of the previous games (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate II) and was excited about the release of Neverwinter Nights. However, if you play the single-player game, this is the worst of them all. You no longer control six different characters (as in previous games); you only control one. You can hire "henchmen", but these are pretty worthless; you can't even control their inventory. Finally, you can only control one henchman at a time. So the single player game consists of your character and one worthless henchman. They have added the ability to create your own dungeons - but who has time for this? If you have no job or social life, you might enjoy it as a way to pass time, but otherwise it is a memory-hogging extra that most people will never use. If you enjoy multi-player games online, Neverwinter Nights is probably still a good game. However, if you like to play as a single player, I would recommend going back and replaying Baldur's Gate II.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed at first - blown away now Review: I was hoping this was going to be the next sequal to Baldur's Gate (as promised in BGII) so I was a bit disappointed when I had only a single character in my party. But then I started to see all the very cool stuff about this game. Not only does it have the great main storyline, the coolest thing about this game is the ability to download and play other modules designed by other gamers. This is 200 games in one! I'm recommending it to all my friends now. Bottom line...very cool.
Rating: Summary: Mindless and Dull Review: Despite the susposedly titanic failure of Morrowind... I have to give Neverfun Nights a horrible review. Simply put, this game is mindless and dull. I find myself talking to NPCs and wishing that I could just get on with it and do some fighting. Then I do some fighting and I wish that I could talk to some NPCs. Furthuremore, if I'm buying equipment, I find that I wish I was doing either of the above unpleasant actions. The problem is that the game is TOTALLY linear with uninventive environments and scenarios. The only reason I gave this game more than one star is that on occasion when I am feeling particularly tired, the game can be a little addictive. Sort of like Diablo 2...
Rating: Summary: If someone tells you this game [stinks], they're [wrong]. Review: At long last, it's here. Neverwinter Nights is a fantastic RPG that uses the 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons ruleset. The gameplay, camera controls, multiplayer, and graphics are all excellent, easily earning this game five stars. But the real meat of this game is the editor. NWN's editor is a superpowerful tool of destruction, easily accessible to newbies, and making it easy for new dungeon masters to plop down a castle filled with orcs and take it online. Countless "wizards" and easy-use tools make creating monsters, weapons, and treasures a breeze. The more advanced features of the editor (namely, anything that has to do with scripting) shift the gentle learning curve to a learning sheer cliff, but hopefully Bioware will be releasing wizards that will make scripting as easy as everything else. For those more interested in a deep single-player experience, you'll find your money is well spent, even if you won't discover what makes this game so great. The game's main campaign takes your mercenary hero through a quest to save the city of Neverwinter from the ravages of plague. It's admittedly a bit hack-and-slash, which will turn off traditional D&Ders, and it feels somewhat lonely with only your henchman to keep you company, but it's a fun, interesting experience. Multiplayer, as one would expect, is almost always a blast. Barring occasional crashes (there's some sort of bug with a DM posessing a creature), you'll be hard-pressed to find yourself bored. There are several different channels to choose from; if you prefer Diablo-style slaughter, hit the Action channel. If you're an old school D&Der who enjoys his "thees" and "thous," I'll see you in the Roleplay channel. There's room for every game type, and aside from the aforementioned crashes, there are very few complaints. In the end, Neverwinter Nights is worth every penny, whether you just want a good RPG experience or plan on using the included tools to create the dungeon of your dreams. Don't waste your money on other so-called "RPG"s like Dungeon Siege -- for your role-playing budget, NWN is this summer's blockbuster hit.
Rating: Summary: Oh my god what a disgrace to my beloved paper game Review: This game is an insult to the world of Dungeon and dragons Come on even Pool of Radiance is better than this. What the heck is this going back to the old format of dnd games Hello there, gamer want perspective like diablo2 Baldur's gate where you can see your charcter see in slash, cast a spell not a permenant camera following you has if you were in a maze. Extremely complicated for nothing thank good i have a geoforce2 asus 7700 powered by nvidia or else is it back to store for a refund or an exchange. I got nothing else to say that wasn't said from the other reviewers... Get Warcraft3 and Diablo2 or even Pool of Radiance, Icewindale... GhostRider666 the spirit of vengeance
Rating: Summary: too complicated?! have you ppl gone insane Review: True i've never played D&D before but you don't even need to pay attention to the rules....all the stupid little damage stuff at the bottom is obselete so i didn't even look at it and it was still the best rpg i've ever played. with the WIDE range of characters and the many sidequests you can do it was all fine. and i never had a single bug in this game....it never crashes and my computer is two years old. and the main quest is plenty flexible....all you have to do is put the main quest on hold and do all the sidequests...thats all i did and i beat the game with a level 15 longsword fighter. and i'm still playing the game over and over with new types of characters.
Rating: Summary: Terrible game Review: After I heard about NWN coming out I was looking forward to it, well I bought the game and the help guide. I read through the help guide for about an hour before I was able to get home and play it, well I get home and install it (which takes an hour or so) after that happened I went to go play well now I needed a patch so I went and downloaded that, I get the patch and begin to play, I played for about 50 minutes and then it dawned on me that this game has terrible graphics and the gameplay overall [stinks]. I'd rather play WarCraft 3, JK2, or Counter-Strike.
