Rating: Summary: To be or not to be.... Review: Everquest has been out for quite some time and has made its place as one of the top rpgs online to date. However time has took its toll on the current game as the graphics have become outdated. So...hence comes the luclin expansion. With so many massive multiplayer rpgs coming in the following months, Verrant only hopes this expansion will buff up the current game. As a long time dedicated EQ player, i welcomed this expansion with open arms, hoping the Shadows of Luclin would spice up the game. The most notable of the new features is the new graphics engine it offers. Long time gamers will find the new enhancement quite nice. The expansion offers the new planet luclin, with more zones, items, spells etc. With enough money one can even purchase a horse to travel the zones quicker. Although this expansion doesnt change the way the game plays it does offer more options than the previous version and keeps Everquest in the spotlight....for now. All in all this is a great expansion upgrade for the current EQ player and may bring retired EQ players crawling back.
Rating: Summary: Great add onn...after all the patches Review: After buying Shadows of Luclin I was discouraged like everybody else. It was buggy, laggy and I didn't have enough RAM to display every new model. Well two months after its release they have worked out most of the bugs, fixed a lot of the Lag and I have enough RAM to see every character. I enjoy being able to customize my appearance so that I do not look like every other dwarf out there. The new Beastlord class is a blast to play. The Vah Shir are also a refreshing change. Finally a very large race that isn't Kill on Sight everywhere. The Alternative advancement for Lvl 50+ makes me want to get there as fast as possible. Over all it has made me want to play EQ even more. If you already have EQ you need this update. If you don't have EQ try out the trilogy first. If you enjoy what you play, SoL will make it even that much better.
Rating: Summary: Luclin expansion Review: Well,Luclin is very good, dont get me wrong, but, because we have 2 EQ players in the house,Me and one other,i am usually stuck on the slow PC (its in my room) and Luclin is very choppy on it,i have timed about 5 seconds lag before i can move again after moving once, especially turning round, and near groups of PC's or NPC's,and i cant get the new graphics until i upgrade my RAM.On the downstairs computer (the good one) Luclin is great!,i got the graphics, minimal lag and a whole moon to work with.I love Everquest, but i think there should be more options to dumb down the graphics and such for us slower players, thats just my 2cp to anyone buying, and to Verant if they decide to read this, (P.S Kunark is the best expansion to date)
Rating: Summary: Out of date RPG Review: I bought this after I got Dark Ages of Camalot. Forget it. the game has really poor graphics compared to DAoC. The game has to much infighting between the people on line and new people in the game cannot compete with the "Twinks" who come along and camp all the stuff needed to advance. This game is really obsolete and there are much better games out there on the market now. Spend you money elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: 3 2/3 stars, actually. Review: If you have the computing power, SoL is a very nice addition. However, it's not enough to say to those whose PC's aren't up to par, "UPGRADE OR DON'T BUY IT," as SoL has greatly compromised the quality of old-world gameplay, without SoL, on systems that are otherwise in good shape. Before SoL, I had 128MB of RAM and a TNT2 32MB Graphics Card on a PentIII 550 computer. After SoL went live, I found many of the old world zones to be way too laggy for me and I on occasion crashed in-game. The thought of expanding to SoL was unthinkable. I went ahead and added 256MB RAM and a new GeForce2 64MB Graphics Card. I'm able to run SoL now and the old world--even retextured--zones run great. I certainly enjoy giving my characters a face lift, too. But the land of Luclin? Forget it! Verant has lots of work to do. It's a laggy mess up there. We all know Verant ca$hed in on this one. I'm upset with the way they went about it, but I still love playing EQ and will continue to do so. Overall, 3 2/3 stars.
Rating: Summary: Inaccurate System Requirement Stated Review: The stated system requirements for EverQuest, Ruins of Kunark, Scars of Velious and Shadows of Luclin is in accurate. It doesn't stop there, of course.. but those of us who play and have played Everquest for any time know that. Aside from the to-be-expected disconnects at Server, the increased lag, the incomplete zone graphics and 'broken' quests oversized download packets during play (resulting in unnecessary deaths and experience loss) make the game a love-hate endeavor. Oh, IF ONLY I'd KNOWN then what I KNOW now... but I'm already severly addicted...I would NEVER have purchased any of the above. Did the Cigarette industry end up paying out the wazoo for addiction-inflicted damage to the consumer ? Not Verant - now they have introduced a new Uber Server, $40.00 per month option. Don't be suprised. In this "Legends" option they promise to limit online players and give the consumer all they were supposed to get for the 'standard' subscription plus a few scraps to make it look worth the price. Save your money...or be prepared to pay regularly for your daily dose of Frustration.
Rating: Summary: Good Job Review: This expansion helped improve the gameplay through the new character models, introduced a new class as well as race(class hasn't been done since original, race since kunark). A few minor bugs are in it, but that's to be expected with any software especially a game under so much daily stress. The higher system requirements are what you should be running soon on your computer anyways so they are no big deal. Overall its the best expansion yet.
Rating: Summary: My 2 cp Review: Ahh the good old days when you played EverQuest and decided it was time to get Ruins of Kunark. You went out and purchased RoK and installed it. Then once all the patching was done you were able to click "Kunark Patch" and then everything was patched INTO the original game, then you hit the "Register Kunark" button and input the serial key. Same goes for Velious. It now seems that even just before the Luclin game, they were "pre-patching" Luclin files into your existing Velious game. My question is this, WHY? Why ruin a fun game if you, the player, have no plans of going to Luclin? Why should I have to have the game ruined and now I get the ka-chunk graphics, bad framerate, even in River Vale my home town, West Commonlands around the Druid Ring is now so laggy that it is like swimming in a see of molasses to just turn around. Zones that were once easy to explore are no more than a waste of time trying to run through. It is like as soon as you hit an area that has 1: a lot of people or 2: A lot of rendering to do your graphics start to lag out and the framerate gets choppy. I loved the hell out of this game pre-Luclin patching. Now I can't even go to most dungeons or graphically intense zones without my computer seizing up and sputtering. So I warn the newbies who are wanting to buy this game. DON'T! VI should have gotten all the bugs and kinks out of the game and NOT promised a shelf date that was too soon. They claim they need to keep up wit DAoC. Well DAoC from what I have seen from screenshots has better grpahics than EQ and they only require a 400Mhz Processor and 128 MB RAM, unlike EQ that says if you want to play the game you need to upgrade your systems. Making us go out and spend a lot of cash to do so only to STILL have the problesm of ka-chunk graphics, choppy, molasses-like framerate and slow zoning times. Zoning times going from 10-15 seconds now being more like 3-5 minutes.
Rating: Summary: Rushed product. Review: This was an extremely poor expansion. Verant Interactive rushed to get this product out of the door and in the processes caused a lot of stability issues with the Luclin client. Even 2 months after release they are still trying to fix bugs within the SoL code to allow players to play at a decent speed. Save your money. If you have to have this expansion wait another 6 months where in typical MMORPG fashion the majority of bugs will be fixed.
Rating: Summary: It's a good expansion fo EQ! Review: If you like to play Everquest, you must get this expansion for better graphic and advanced game play. I LVOE the new look of my chracter. (My armor looks AWESOME, too!)
