Summary: Going Nowhere in a Hurry
Review: I honestly wanted to give Anarchy Online a chance. The massively multiplayer genre needs some new blood, and there were some interesting things in this game when it first went live: good graphics, promising character classes, and a sci-fi setting (though really not very 'hard' sci-fi, more like fantasy with some 'futuristic' touches).

However, the developer, Funcom, has demonstrated truly astonishing incompetence and bad faith since the launch of the game. All games of this kind have rocky launches, but don't be fooled: the problems of Anarchy Online go far deeper than a rocky launch. Each patch has actually introduced serious new balance problems and several, including the most recent patch, have reintroduced old bugs and added some new ones. These are not just garden-variety bugs, but game-stopping ones, mind you.

Now Funcom has taken the extraordinary step of shutting down the support bulletin boards at its own site, which is always a sign of imminent disaster in the gaming world. It's the equivalent of a toxically bad film that a movie studio tries to keep away from critics hoping that they can just get one weekend of good box office before the word gets out.

AO's European launch is imminent. If our good friends in Europe have any sense, they'll give this game a wide berth, whatever its price. The sooner Funcom closes the lights on the few remaining players in this flaming wreck of a game, the better. Perhaps they can sell the remnants of their tattered code to a real developer and someday we'll see the game reach its potential. It's a certainty that Funcom itself can't pull it off.

Summary: Do NOT buy this game!
Review: In short, it is buggy, at times unstable, and it's creator, Funcom, keeps DRASTICALLY altering game balance such that it is impossible to tell what your chartacter(s) may be capable of doing with regard to combat, bith PvP and PvM, from patch to patch!

It is not worth the money or the frustration!

Summary: Buy Something else!!!
Review: This game should still be in beta. Current version 12.6 is a joke, broke things that used to work, made existing bugs worse, and the fixes are worse than the bugs. It is unplayable, with invulnerable mobs, crashing while zoning (often followed by multiple hours of being unable to log on), and oh yes, total lack of meaningful apology by the company for bringing the game to its knees ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON. Save your money.

Summary: Been there, did that, never got a T-shirt
Review: Hmmmmm, where to start?

I signed up right after release (better known as the Beta-5 phase to those who played it) and stuck with it for a couple months. Got my character up to 60, so I played it quite a bit; joined a new guild, had my friends who always played....

And just got so sick of entering missions, not knowing what had been completely "nerfed" in the last patch. One day I go into a mission, green monsters are easy; next day I do the same level mission and get my a** kicked. So playability, while varied and in a sci-fi atmosphere (hella-cool, why hasn't it been done before?) is completely variable from one day to the next.

Three weeks later I visit the main message board, and it's the same as when I left... a recent patch has pissed off 3/4 of the game's population...

Final analysis: Wait for the spin-off, hopefully done by a company who has their act together a little more.

Summary: Current State is Unplayable - version 12.6
Review: This was shaping up to be a very nice MMORPG, at least until this past Friday, when Funcom 'patched' the software. It's really not good form to do a patch right before the weekend, because if there are any problems, the high number of weekend gamers will be very upset. This was an understatement. New bugs were introduced at an alarming rate, rendering the game level 50+ all but impossible, with invulnerable critters, critters with infinite nano, and even more problems with "hall of mirrors" effects in doorways. Funcom has demonstrated very poor customer support, neither acknowledging nor fixing these problems. Save your money.

Summary: FUNCOM has got to have THE worst support team of any MMORPG
Review: FUNCOM has got to have THE worst support team of any MMORPG yet. Among my many complaints about this company: they frequently patch their servers on Fridays and 90% of their patches are full of bugs. The bad patches don't get fixed until monday. So, if you dont want to play on the weekend. This is the game for you.

Summary: Possibly the worst online game ever released
Review: This game is the most buggy product I have ever had the misfortune to load on my computer. On top of that, the actual gameplay is very bland, the game lacks any real content and is missing most of the things that make a MMORPG interesting.

In an attempt to solve every gaming issue that existed in customers heads from all previous games, Funcom has produced a truely boring game in Anarchy Online.

I strongly recommend *not* buying this product. I would have rated it zero stars but that is not an option.

Summary: How bad can it get
Review: It was really bad the first week, but it did get better. For a few weeks we could play better each day, and in turn see just how boring the game really was.

In the last few weeks they turned around and the game is now worse than it was at release. Each patch is a fingers crossed, heart bumping, breath catching nightmare wondering if just your class or perhaps the entire game will be SNAFU this time around.

FunCom deserves for the entire computer community to group together and put them out of business. I thought Tribes 2 was a horrid release, and then Coroned Rat proved me wrong. Why oh why couldn't AO be at least as good as WWII Online.

Pass on this one, and in fact pass on anything with the FunCom name on it forever.

Summary: Just painful to play
Review: Massive lag, frequent disconnects, and a company that apparently has no idea how to properly patch a computer program, and has no idea what the term "service" means. I feel that having this game active is the same as giving the makers (Funcom) permission to pick my pocket each and every month.

Summary: Broken and they can't fix it
Review: The game is still in beta, even though it's been released as 'retail' for months. Every fix Funcom makes to this game breaks something else. Funcom do not listen to customers and do not communicate with customers. This game had lots of potential but is now destined for the bargain bins and an early grave. Avoid it. If you want a sci-fi style MMORPG, wait for Necreon or the Star Wars game.
