Rating: Summary: Unreal is an awesome game! Review: Unreal is the first and only shooter-type-game that I own, and I must say that there is something about it that differentiates it from the rest. Quake never appealed to me, but the graphics and 'atmosphere' of Unreal are just incredible and are sure to lure anyone in. I also like the fact that instead of going for the 'put a billion enemies on the screen', there are fewer, more difficult enemies(the artificial intelligence is incredible!). Unreal gets five stars from me!
Rating: Summary: Unreal will clearly redefine the future of all pc games. Review: Unreal is UNREAL!!
Rating: Summary: Unreal was UNREAL... Review: Until now. In 1998, Unreal was absolutely a beatiful masterpeice to behold, that made me drool so badly it made my drool like hoemr simpson at an all you can eat BBQ restraunt, and made R.I.P Quake II to Unreal, it was a graphical god, making incredible splendid use of lens flares and colors with true support from MMX and 3Dnow! intructions supporting processors. Making the best use of Voodoo class 3-D grafic accelerator boards with 3DFX, tagged along with impressive and well designed A.I with an innovative storyline and immerse game-play with well animated environments and realistic environmental reverb and spatial and background 16-bit quailty sound effects with support from A3D sound boards with awesome techno audio and 24-bit color support from grafics cards and upport from Windows 95 to Windows NT platform with both great single player and good multiplayer modes, software rendering support, brilliant character developement, and a variety of nicely paired preferences and designed menus, and more, unreal was the ultimate technological game with great game-play, making John Carmack's Quake II look like nothing. Yet by today's standards, unreal is nothing but a cheesey cheap low system requirements oldskool 3-D game. You'll only be able to find it in bargain bins, unfortunately. Back in 1998, it had an incredible new platform engine for amazing technological achievement. Also including a friendly easy to use fully supported unofficial level and mod editor and creator tool, unreal was not game to get bored of easily. Unless you had a top of the line or near 1998 system, you woudn't get the incredible experience out of unreal that the masters at epic and digital extremes designed unreal to originally specifically offer. I just picked up a copy of unreal, and was not impressed. I spent almost 10 minutes on the game with highest settings with my new Alienware with the latest P4 processor with Windows XP. Sure it looked decent and ran great, but then again, it was not a good experience. Too bad there wasn't a time machine, so I can see what unreal was all legendary and about back then. But that isn't possible, so I'll pass on unreal.
Rating: Summary: its ok Review: Well, going into it, I heard that this was SO much better than Quake III arena. I had played that game, and I liked it. So, I gave Unreal a go. After playing for a while, I played Quake III again. Within a few minutes, I quit Quake, uninstalled Unreal, and went back to playing Quake. The difference in the graphics was incredable. All the sharp edges are fine, but I perfer the revolutionaly rounded surfaces. Quake III blew Unreal out of the water graphically. What about the game play? Well, I was kidna dissapointed. Quake III is very intense, the kind of game you get caught up in. I found myself playing Unreal, just to see what it was like. It had no draw whatsoever. I thought the weapons were fairly difficult to use, and were kinda cheesy. For me, it is all Quake III.
Rating: Summary: Myst for the Testosterone Set? Review: Well, that's what CGW editor Jeff Green called "Unreal". After playing it, I'm inclined to agree. It incorporates (on a small scale) elements of adventure games, which slows down the first-person action without actually adding much weight to the alleged story. It does look nice, though, at least for a 1997 era game.
Rating: Summary: The best game I've played, so far... Review: When I first played Unreal, it really blew my mind with it's INCREDIBLE graphics and mood music. Imagine, if you will, playing a 3D game with almost Myst-like graphics. I just simply could not believe the rich details that this game offered. While being a 3D game, it's not a "blast-fest" in terms of body count. But still that did not detract me from enjoying this brilliantly stunning game. I enjoyed it for it's "immersion" quality - I mean, this game really got me into it's reality. The colors and textures are extremely rich, and the music is mostly atmospheric and moody. If you can appreciate these features, you will LOVE the game. But be sure your computer can handle it or it might not be too fun. It ran fine on my PII/400.Dan :-)
Rating: Summary: This is the most amazing game I've played, until half-life! Review: When the day I got unreal and tried it, I loved it so much I started calling up friends and telling them how incredible that game was, the gameplay is one of best gameplay ever experienced in a game, you are a prisoner in a prisoner vessel heading to a prison moon believed to be called(the prison ship):Vortex Rikers. But when the skaarj detect you and pull you on to the once peaceful planet of NaPali, then all goes wrong!your best friend gets eaten by a skaarj, you barely manage to escape a now turned to a skaarj slaughter prison vessel, you reach outside grounds and say this can't be real, no it's not, it's UNREAL!Unreal takes you through 39 heart beating, breath taking missions, where you fight for life to survive, collecting items like defenses and weapons, travel through temples, facilitys, castles, bases, mountians, journey through what napali has to offer, and end up and the skaarj mothers ship, confronting the queen skaarj.......unaided and alone!I would indenefinetley recommend this game to first person sci-fi fan shooters!
Rating: Summary: This one's going to last for a while! Review: With the best game engine currently in release underlying killer sound effects, great graphics, and the most evil enemy AI, Unreal is sure to stick around as one of the top games for a long time. Add to this the number of online servers and multiplayer support available for this game and you'll have a grand ol' time killing all your friends! The unsupported level editor which ships with the game can be fixed with a patch from the Unreal website and then you're making your own levels with the easiest design interface I've ever used. The game could easily benefit from some extra speech and humor (you don't hear a peep out of your own character until you die), but it's dark atmosphere and excellent surprises should have your heart pumping everytime you have to look around a corner. Whether your a die-hard gameplayer or a detail-happy level designer, this one's for you.
Rating: Summary: Unreal is a MUST for anyone reading this. Review: With the best graphics that I have ever seen, UNREAL definately takes home first place for eye candy. The sounds will undoubtedly scare the SATAN out of any one of you hardened gamers. UNREAL is absolutely the best game that could be in your library, and that is all that can be said about this great game. BUY IT NOW
Rating: Summary: Beautiful but Boring Review: Yes, the graphics and sounds to this game are unreal, however the gameplay is nowhere near. The puzzles, storyline, and overall gameplay is totally lacking from the "incredible new experience that would redefine the generation." With the four years spent in creating this game, you would think more time would have been spent in gameplay rather than just the grapics engine. Look elsewhere for "unreal" experiences.
