Rating: Summary: EverQuest Review: I would haft to say that EverQuest is the best game i was eve introduced to. Many of my friends play it so it never gets boring. Even though the game is 10.00 a month, it is worth. I would have to give Verent major Props on making this game. And on a scale i would give all the EvrQuest games a 10 out out of 10!
Rating: Summary: SoV Review: This is really for the experianced gamer. I have spent, well about 28 days playing my druid, and hes only level 35, but its been fun. Velious opened up a whole new icy world. The exp is great, and its acctually a chalenge to kill things (except those snow cougers ;) )Velious is harsh, dangerous, but very new and exciting. Can't wait for SoL.
Rating: Summary: Hooked Review: This game is great fun. I was hooked to this game by level 3. I am now a level 33 Cleric and have been to about 30 zones in the game. I have met people from the West coast to Sweden and have made aliances with many people and have found out that people come to my group because I am in it. The young ones I find give me the most fun when I help them with a quest or when I complete a quest for a much needed item. Favors abound in this game and you will enjoy it as much as I have. Please come and experience the fun and excitement that I have found with this game.
Rating: Summary: Online Community Review: This isn't just a game..it's an online community. I've been playing EQ for a long time. It's a whole world online. One of the best parts is the online players make the EQ world fun to play.
Rating: Summary: ... Review: A poor attempt to add content and game space to the EverQuest world. Graphically it is nice, somewhat better than the original and Kunark. Content wise, is still your basic hack and slash. Only a few new "mobs" have been added, most are just old models with a new skin. As far as new quests go, there is a three way faction that the game designers are still monkeying with; I decided to quit playing rather than wait on Verant to come to a final decision. The game space added is negligible to many servers, as there is a build up of higher level characters to contend with in these higher level dungeons. I give it one star for the effort involved in making it. If it were designed from a players perspective rather than an accounting perspective it would have rated higher with me.
Rating: Summary: Save your money Review: This review applies to Everquest in general as well. 1) The game is geared towards high level characters (above 45). It can take up to 6 months just to reach level 30 (playing an average of 4 hours per day). It requires a significant time commitment to advance in the game past level 10. 2) The majority of quests provide insignificant experince points, items that lost their usefulness well past when a player is able to obtain them, and/or require a large amount of time of sitting and waiting doing nothing. A supplementary game (Tetris like in nature) was included to attempt to minimize the waiting pains. 3) The game is strongly oriented towards group interaction, although soloing is possible up to around level 34 or 35. Character classes become crucial around this level and if you are playing only one character and it doesn't fit in with a group that is fighting a monster or pursuing a quest then you don't get in. Same goes for the over abundance of guilds. 4) The game is constantly being modified to remove loop holes in poorly written code. Players caught utilizing these loopholes are punished or banned from the game. 5) There are some significant social and psycholgical issues that are compounded from this game. Addiction (obsessive compulsive behavior)and all that relates to it is the biggest. The game uses the proverbial carrot to string a player along. at certain levels new spells are obtained or a new skill is learned. But, these must be advanced as well. Players will stay home from work, school, and other responsibilities just to try to game that next level or that piece of gear that they must sit 8-10 hours to kill a monster that may or may not give the item. Loss of job, divorce, poor hygiene, financial problems, etc. have ocurred from playing the game. While it not the games direct fault, it is a result that can be caused from playing the game. 6) Customer service is extremely poor. In Sony's and Verant's eyes the customer is almost always WRONG. I personally consider the game analogous to tobacco industry and smoking.
Rating: Summary: More of the best Review: I am going to write a short but correct Review. if you don't have the Everquest game you can't play this one, so your better off getting the Everquest and trying it out (you can't play this version for a while). If you have everquest, and you like the game get this expansion it is more places to advance to when you get level 35 or such. If you hate Everquest, don't get this game it is not that special, more of the same.
Rating: Summary: Scars of Velious: Waste of Money Review: I have already expressed my feelings on the game itself. And now I would like to discuss why this 'expansion' is a waste of money. Just like the normal game, it is tedious and repetitive. There is nothing new in this expansion, at least nothing much. There are lots of new creatures, but more than half of them are simply poor, palette swapped colors of creatures that you would already find in the game. There are some new creatures, and many, many dragons, but the majority of these dragons are all, again, simple color swaps of the original dragons in the game. And in most cases, they aren't even color swaps, they are just named differently. Another reason this is a waste is because it is geared towards VERY high level players. But even so, some of these creatures are far too difficult for even the highest ranked players in the game, further demonstrating this game's extremely poor system of 'balance'. There are new items to get for your character, but again, they are mostly simple rehashes of older graphics, with very little difference, even in color. The reason i am so negative about this expansion is because it does nothign to help a game that is already, in itself, a very poor game. The game itself is very dated, and even though the next expansion is delivering a whole graphical and and engine overhaul, it still will not compare to the new games that are coming out. Everquest was a nice, new experience when it first debuted, however, it slowly but surely degenerated into nothing more than a shouting match between immature players and crying about stolen items and rip off. Many of the players fail to realize that this is simply a game, and a very dated one at that. Many people who spend their every waking moments on this game do not share my view, because they are hopelessly addicted. But this expansion shows that there is really no concern for customer support or balance issues. Avoid if you are still a young player in Everquest. However, I recommend avoiding this game altogether. Please see my review of the entire game for my reasoning.
Rating: Summary: I like this far more than Ruins of Kunark Review: Everquest: Scars of Velious is not an expansion for those new to Everquest. None of the zones on this continent are for players below level 30. Most of them require a player be a minimum of level 45 to survive. In this expansion to the ever popular rpg Everquest, a 'missing' continent has been discovered. On this continent there is a constantly waged war going on. The Coldain (Ice Dwarves) are at war with the Kromrif (Frost Giants) and to a lesser degree the Kromzek (Storm Giants), while the Kromzek are also at war with the Claws of Veeshan (Dragons). Also included on this expansion, are two more planes of life. The Plane of Mischief is home to Bristlebane (who is the god of rogues), and the Plane of Growth is the home to Lady Tunare (the goddess of wood elves and nature). In my opinion, one of the best features about Everquest: SOV is that unlike the original and the first expansion RoK, allows you to have shifting allegances. You can ally yourself with the Coldain, Giants, or Dragons basically at will, just by killing and questing for certain factions. Something else that was important to me, was that with the exception of one zone, I did not experience the video lag issues that I had with the mostly jungle look of the Ruins of Kunark expansion. The visuals in some of the zones in Velious are magnificent, and the more subtle and difficult stories/quests make it more enjoyable than the preceeding expansion. Anyone who has Everquest, and hasn't played SoV definitely needs to get ahold of it, and be ready for some changes to your world as you know it.
Rating: Summary: Just to clear up some matters Review: Ok, first of this game is an awsome game. Now you are thinking about why I only gave it one star. The reasons behind this are some of the biggest draw backs and I think most others will agree with me on some of my view points. First off, be prepared to pour alot of time into this game. To get to the highest level ( level 60...so far) can take up to 2 years of gameplay. Total playing time to get up to there is alot. I have see 113 days of a life spent to get to 60. To me that seems a bit extreme. Also another downside of this game is that all the best things in the game happen at the highest levels. Now to some people they can just jump on and make a character and just stick with that one character all the way to 60. This to me is extremly boring and quite a long process as well. The thing also about this game unlike others is that your melee skills are based almost purely on level. EX: A level one would never ever be able to kill a level 15. Another thing is that you can not control your own hits. You have no power or say if they hit or not except at the level 50+. At those levels you get disiplies that allow you to always hit a creature but then they only work for a short period of time. Another reason this game only got one stare is that no matter what people say the game is always going to be unbalanced. It has to be to keep your interest. The downside to this is that some classes in the game at, at the higher levels, are not wanted or needed. On behave of the game I will say the game is fun. Although at the lowest levels it to me seemed boring. If you have a family member that loves games, and you wish never to see them again buy this game. ( must have the second version to play) It is one of the best games I have ever played. It is overall a good game. You meet new people on-line from all over the globe. I hope this review will help some people with their decsion.
