Rating: Summary: This game is like a new job Review: This game is like a new job. When you first start everything is new and a tad exciting. You meet new people and do new things. Then after a few weeks you get tired of it. You don't get that promotion (your character gets nerfed by Mythic). You find yourself doing the exact same thing over and over with very little variation (at the high levels, you kill the same ugly things you killed at level 1, but this time it has a different name...ooh joy!). Oh, and if you think this game is more casual player friendly than EQ, you'd be dead wrong. Server populations are generally low, therefore harder to find people to team up with. And its even tougher if you don't pick a class that is mainly a support class. Soloing in this game is even worse than EQ. Given, your downtime will be shorter than in EQ. A solo class in EQ can gain a level (at the lower to mid levels) in roughly 4-5 hours of play time. Here in Camelot at the mid range levels, soloing takes double to sometimes triple to gain a level. The game also advertises RvR as a main feature, but it is a known fact that to honestly have a standing chance in its RvR pvp system you need to be in the top 10% of the level range to contribute. Thus, if you are looking to be in competitive team based pvp you must first spend roughly 300+ hours to hit the level cap unless you don't mind getting beatdown like level 1 sewer rats. I only reccomend this game if you have an insane amount of time on your hands to devote to it (like you are recovering from a torn achilles) because even after devoting months of your time to your character, Mythic, the developers, have been known to make that character type significantly weaker, thus cheapening the time you've spent or pushing you to spend even more time developing another character.
Rating: Summary: Fun to a point. Review: When I first bought the game, it was the first MMORPG I had ever played. It consumed my life, but at the time it didn't matter. The graphics are awesome (though your computer will slow down during RvR when Clerics and Healers are casting buffs on the fighers) and the land is huge, though where you can go is VERY dependent on your level. Wander too far and you'll be killed. The game is focused on levelling, perhaps too focused, though this is to be expected of a game where the main idea is Realm vs Realm and Person vs Person. I stopped playing because the game's programmers feel that the way to solve a class problem is to nerf [degrade] the class, undermining your levelling efforts. Bad news for those who like the game. There are also many Realm-oriented problems: Hibernia is mainly magic, and members of Hibby are prone to getting slaughtered by the likes of Midgard's trolls and pure tanks/fighters. I have recently decided to start playing again once I heard of the expansion coming out and the new races and classes, as well as the much-awaited Spellcrafting and Alchemy Tradeskills. So if you can deal with sacrificing your social life for a game that demands your constant attention, then Dark Age of Camelot is for you.
Rating: Summary: GREAT GAME!! Review: in DAOC you can choose from three (great)realms such as hibernia albion and midgard. Albion is a neutral realm meaning it doesnt specialize in anything hibernia is the land of magic and midgard is for the fighting melee chars. A MUST BUY FOR ANY ONE THAT LOOKS AT THIS!!!
Rating: Summary: lost interest in the level grinding Review: played this game for nearly 7 months paying 12.95 for the privelege top characters were a 32 level hero and a 34 level champ i found drops in one of the realms not to be on level or useful item prices at the merchants way beyond reasonble compared with hunting and selling items that were hunted i found some very rude players on line and some nice ones as well without help or guild it was very hard to play , some of the fan sites boards were increidabley flaming instead of helpful and encouraging in the end it is my first mmrpg and most certainly my last mmrpg i will ever play very glad for game consoles and other choices of gaming genres' update bout feb i reached 50 end game with champ did rvr for about a week then cancled the account no way could i begin to level up another toon doing the same thing before i cancled the account midguard had df on 12 of the 16 servers and rvr was pointlessly outnumbered for the rest of the realms to make rvr fun at that point an time
Rating: Summary: The first online game that I played and still addicted to it Review: This game is the best that I have even played and this coming from a person that never plays much video games. I like the way this game makes you feel like you are part of the story and the destiny of the character that you play. I could never get much into Playstation and Nintendo Games, but this is the one that I have to beg someone to get off the computer so that I can play this and talk to my friends. I have a level 42 Huntress and she is NOT boring at all. There are so manny things that happen and when you get the the other realms, you have the adrelin rush of killing others. It is too much fun.
Rating: Summary: Best and Most addictive PC game I've played Review: I've played DAOC for about 5 months now, and the biggest problem I have is finding time to be with my family. I tried playing on the "Dred" servers in the Player V. Player mode, however, I more interested in working with people for a common goal rather than basically a shoot-em-up game. Though I've only reached lvl 25 out of 50, (working about 8 different chars up through the ranks), I have loved almost every minute of it. I can craft my own armor and bows/weapons, or I can sell them to other players. I've also made many long-term friends on-line at DAOC. It's a lot of work, and can get boring at times (try crafting up to 1100 skillpoints, I'm only about halfway there), but I think suffering the boredom is a minor problem when you have one of your realm/guildmates congratulating you on making lvl 50, or becoming a grandmaster armorer. Rating: Summary: Good to start then falls off Review: Though the game was quite addicting at first (Levels 1-20), it then began to loose some of its uniques as you spend most of your time leveling at an extremely slow pace. The quests are a tad bit on the lean side. After you reach level 50 the game looses much of its appeal as you cant level any higher. The main problem i had with the game is there was no purpose for your character. Sure you had quests but after you finsih them all whats next? wandering around killing people. Not my idea of fun.
Rating: Summary: Dark Age of Camelot -- Better than EQ but still the same Review: Mythic didn't dissapoint too many fans when it released "DAoC" -- but it definately didn't pioneer too much in the field of online gaming. For those new to the online gaming field, this is an excellent game to get and will definately give you a feel for the environment and experience you will get while playing a "Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game". First of all, this is not a traditional roleplaying game in the sense of the word. There are really no "Online Role-Playing" games out today (arguably some old MUD's and stuff are) -- but you won't find traditional roleplaying in DAoC or Everquest. The problem with all "MMORPG's" currently out today is they are insanely time intensive. If you want to be successful in the online community you are playing in, you will have to spend ALOT of time doing so. Now, DAoC is better on time than Everquest. In Everquest, 12-24 hour raids are the normal, and are *required* for you to play the "end game" (getting the best equipment, stuff like that) -- and DAoC definately edges Everquest out in this department. You can log in to DAoC for 30 minutes and get something accomplished (whether it be advance a little to your next level, do something for a quest, or craft some armor/weapons or items, you CAN do it in DAoC) -- and in Everquest you pretty much need to dedicate at least a few hours to do anything really. Another notch up on Everquest that DAoC has is its PvP (or Player vs. Player) environment. PvP is totally optional in DAoC (although you WILL get involved, its like buying a car and only driving it in first gear) -- and it is pretty well developed. Those who enjoy PvP will like this game much much more than Everquest. Mythic Entertainment also provides much better customer support than Verant. Verant was almost infamous in the market as being extremely unhelpful and lost ALOT of customers due to their poor service. Now that Verant finally has some competition, they have revamped their customer service and it's a bit better. Mythic is constantly updating DAoC to try and make it better for their player. They communicate well (and exponetially better than Verant) to their player-base and try to keep them informed. Now for the cons. -- Dark Age of Camelot is time intensive and may be lacking content and an overall "sense of accomplishment" in the end. Everquest has far more actual "content" than DAoC at the moment, mainly because EQ has been out for 2 more years than DAoC, and also because 2 expansions have been released for EQ. But never fear, Mythic is releasing an expansion soon that looks good. Unfortunately, as I said before, to be successful in any of these games it will take a lot of your time. Theres really no way around this, but be warned that the game might become addictive! Overall, I believe DAoC is a better overall game than EQ, and will offer a more rewarding experience both socially and role-playing wise. 4 Stars for DAoC.

Rating: Summary: Great Game, however Review: The game itself is wonderful! A great combination of "real" myth with a fantasy rpg twist. The graphics are some of the best, only rivaled by the ever popular EverQuest. However, as with all online rpgs, you are constantly at war with the developers. I played this game for almost a year before I was fed up with Mythic stinting my Druid. Be forewarned! Check the message boards before committing to pay the monthly charge, only to be fustrated that your character is getting "nerfed" every other month (ie. Major damage done to the Clerics before I quit). Having said that, this is worth every cent for entertainment.
