Summary: Pretty Paper Doesn't mean your getting a Great Gift.
Review: I played Asherons Call (original) and I loved the game. I have play many online games. Ultima Online, Anarchy Online, Dark Age of Camelot.

AC2 is very pretty. The graphics are very nice, but all the new games coming out will have the same quality graphics. I played the Beta Test of this game and all I can tell you is this... BORING. It is very boring. There is little to do but level your character. The combat is simple minded and the number of choices you have for delveloping your character smacks of Diablo. It is just too simple a game to be worth much to me.

Online games like this should be a challenge. There will not be a big user base for this game after it turns retail. Simply because it's boring.

If you want simple game play, you probably will be better off with The Sims Online. If you want adventure and character development in a roleplaying environment, wait for something else to come along. Ever Quest 2 maybe. I haven't played it, but I will give it a try. Sorry to say it, but they should have done more with this game. It could have been great.

Don't take my word for it. The beta test is open to the public. Download the game and see for yourself.

Signed,
Long time Asherons Call Fan.

Summary: Incredible depth and balance with mind-boggling graphics!
Review: Asheron's Call 1 entered the MMPORPG scene just about 3 short years ago as the new kid on the block. Since that date, when they entered with a very well-made gaming experience.. Microsoft and Turbine have learned and actually listened to the players. AC2 looks to be the result, and playing the Beta version of AC2 reveals that not only is this the best MMPORPG out now, but also is the best RPG ever made for any console. Period. Look out Everquest. Roll over and give it up DAoC. The graphics here [draw] you into a fascinating world where the breeze blows softly and you can actually see the blades of grass individually swaying. The monsters have intelligence beyond that of ANY game I've ever seen. No more are the days of attack and run behind a wall or jump on a wall to avoid their attack while you heal and go back to finish them up. These monsters are SMART. They WILL find you and get to you one way or another! Perhaps while you're on that wall trying to heal they will surprise attack you ON THE WALL as they found another way to get up it, or maybe they'll just throw a boulder ot shoot an arrow through the back of your head! I am amazed. AI creatures that are actually a challenge intellectually. Hundreds of other players. A devastated world that needs the players teamwork to rebuild the fallen towns. No more running to towns or NPCs to sell loot. There are NO npcs! All player world with players crafing and selling and minging the needed armor, weapons, raw materials and supplies. Any RPG or MMPORPG fan should NOT dare miss this one. It will blow you away. Oh, and one more thing: Forget "having a night life" after purchasing when it comes out! You'll have to plan ahead just to make it to real life things like "work" or "school". It really is THAT immersive. Great job Microsoft & Turbine. You have created a true "virual reality" that it nothing short of awesome in every sense. Talk about a BANG for your buck! I think my ears are ringing from the explosion of this bang!

Summary: AC2 - Fallen Kings: The Next Evolution Of MMORPG
Review: Asheron's Call 2 is the next generation Fantasy massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) where the world dynamically evolves around you. Asheron's Call 2 features an all-new graphics engine, combat system and dynamic content system to deliver a rich, engaging fantasy world where world-shaking changes sweep you along an epic story-line.

* Amazing visuals: Asheron's Call 2's all-new graphics engine enables stunningly realistic visuals that are far and away superior to any other MMORPG on the market.

* New combat system: Features a new engrossing combat system where real-time decisions make a difference and players have hundreds of combat and magic skills available to master.

In the distant past, the land of Dereth enjoyed a golden age. The Humans, overcoming their history of dislocation and enslavement, slowly built their strength, tamed the threats to their peace, and claimed Dereth as their home. Guided by the wizard Asheron, the Humans mastered the ways of steel and magic to hold in check their nemesis, the insect-like Olthoi, and to stave off the encroachment of the Lugian and Tumerok civilizations. Though the unpredictable tides of magic surged all around them and new foes seemed to spring up endlessly, the Humans carved out a happy existence on Dereth.

However, this golden age was not fated to last forever. Bitterly opposed foes of unthinkable might struggled with one another to control the primal source of Dereth's magical power. Struggle turned to war, and war invited a horrible cataclysm. The denizens of Dereth fled deep underground into shelters created by the protector Asheron. The land above them twisted under dark waves of chaos for three hundred years.

Now, after generations of hiding in fear, the three civilized races--the Humans, the Tumeroks, and the Lugians--forge an alliance, setting aside their past enmity to work side by side. As you play Asheron's Call 2, you fight alongside the first brave adventurers to emerge from the shelters. All of the races strive to reclaim their ancestral lands from the evil that has flourished in the ruins left by the cataclysm. Together they rebuild the world, and face an uncertain future.

In time, you will learn more about this world. On this Asheron's Call 2 Web site we will reveal more of this story over the coming months. As you play, you will uncover secrets from the past and witness firsthand the world-shaking changes yet to come in our epic story.

Summary: It is a blast.
Review: I've played AC1 for a few hundred levels on various characters, 2 characters on DAoC to 50 & played AO for not to long.

After you play AC2 for awhile you realize that this game is actually more complex & fun then the others. It takes awhile to grasp why this is so, but when you do the game rocks.

Amazing graphics (you are gonna need at mimum a decent computer)

Slaughtering endless counts of monsters is not a must since the quests & vaults provide much better xp & offer a nice diversion from killing critters.

Great Crafting system once you start to understand it & advance your skills.

Excellent PvP gameplay at later levels.

Turbine is well known for doing some of the best monthly content updates in the industry, and they havc twice the staff to do this in ac2 then they did in ac1, so you can expect great updates monthly.

Summary: A classy MMOG
Review: I'll be the first to admit AC2 had its problems when it launched. However, all of these have now been resolved. The player classes are largely balanced, there is lots to do in game, the crafting system works well, there are now player run vendor shops, the PvP system is alot of fun, its a very newbie friendly game, the combat system is the best EVER in any MMOG. Its fast-paced, tactical, and requires skill rather than just button bashing. definately worth taking a look. Also there is an expansion pack coming out in March with a new race, new continent, and new expansion levels Hero system adding new skills and combat skill-chains.

Summary: Just not fun
Review: AC2 has good graphics. It just isn't fun. After you get over the novelty of new graphics (which have now been surpassed by many other games), you start to grind. and grind. And even that wouldn't be too bad if you weren't doing it all alone. The point of multi-player games is to play with other players. In AC2 there are times when there is NOBODY else around. Sigh.

Summary: It would be fun if...
Review: This game really does have it all. It has a lot of stuff to do and the enviroments are truely a marvel. The thing that takes away from it though, is that no one plays it. This game would be better than WoW if more people played it. It's peak population was like 600!!! Also, it has probably dropped now that WoW is out. Anyway, I would have to recommend WoW instead of this game. It's the same formula only 300,000 people play it. Your choice though, play with 600 people or 300,000 people.

Summary: Getting better
Review: I originally played AC2 in beta and was one of the long-time AC1 players who vocally complained about the mechanics and bugs pervading the game during beta and at launch as well as the seemingly clueless development team willing to release the game with the myriad of flaws. I never purchased the game but did watch from a distance as the game failed, transferred solely to Turbine and began to receive the attention it needed to become the game it could have been all along. I am now playing AC2 again and can say that I'm truly having a blast. The game has made great strides, from the character development at the low to mid-levels to the quests that are readily available and fun to do in groups or solo. Additionally, the new crafting system is outstanding. There are still many areas that need attention, particularly the high level skills (called Hero skills in AC2) and the lack of storage, however, the game is certainly moving in the right direction. Download the free trial and give it a try...you just might find yourself pleasantly surprised by what you find.

Summary: first time gamer
Review: This is my first online role playing game that I have ever played and I must say that I really enjoy playing Asherons Call 2. A friend of mine convinced me to try it because it was fun and had great graphics. Well I tried it and I'm still playing it and I cannot give it up. It has excellant graphics and I usually never get bored. The game has alot of lag but you just have to get through it and turn down your graphics and it is usually no problem.
There are so many things you can do in this game. You can become a hero of Dereth at level 45 which is really cool to do. It allows you use hero skills and to do quests unless you are not a hero. You can talk to people from all over the world and I have made some friends since I started playing this game. I like the different allegiances that you can get into. The people in the allegiances are there for helping each other out whether it is on quests or just needing some quest items that you have a hard time finding off of mobs.
I cannot compare to Asherons Call 1 because I never played it but there has been many good changes made to Asherons Call 2 since I started playing the game. They have changed the loot that mobs drop, which makes it better. They have also changed some of the quests to where they are repeatable and the experience that is rewarded. They changed the level cap which is now 150, basically the game is never ending. They are finally going to do something with the vendors which has been long awaited by alot of players.
You never have a problem finding people to fellow with to complete a quest in which you cannot solo which is always fun to do. This game is great all around to play. I will never give it up no matter what game comes out. I cannot wait until the expansion comes out. Not only do we have four continents to play on now, they are adding another continent with a new class of characters, armor, and new quests.
