Rating: Summary: To buy or not to buy Review: I was thinking of buying Red faction but then when I went to a freinds house I played a mod for unreal tournament called infiltration. I loved it but [on]... the other and I'm still deciding but most probably im going for unreal because of all the FREE yes FREE mods.
Rating: Summary: UT Review: This game is really really really good. You will love it. You don't like gore? Turn the gore level off. Simple as that. This is as good as Tournament deathmatch games get. I'm telling you, its that fun. You can download many great mods for it also! If your friends own it, give em a call! Its fun to play in games with your friends. This game features a story mode like setting, where you are a character in a Tournament. You know etc etc. Theres a training function that pits you against bots. Very good for boosting up your abilities and making you better. And of course, online play. Don't think, just buy!
Rating: Summary: Best interactive shooter ever, but the genre needs to mature Review: Yes, the graphics, movement, intelligent enemies, weaponry, sound effects, voices, infinite customizability and chat options make this the best shooter game yet brought to market. Unlike the most recent editions of Quake, this game is smooth and essentially bug-free. I'm not disagreeing with anyone here that UT is fantastic as far as it goes. But I've been playing shooters off and on ever since Wolfenstein in 1992. And I just want to say that the whole shooter genre badly needs to develop some sophistication. Killing people in splashes of gore is good for kicks, but it's not the only (or best) way to make a game exciting. Sid Meier's Civilization games proved that geopolitical savvy and crafty spywork can greatly add to a game's excitement. Combine the gory glory and interactivity of UT with the strategy and smarts of Civilization. Then you'd REALLY have a genre worthy of the new millennium.
Rating: Summary: great game, but not for Windows NT Review: I think this is great, maybe the greatest game i've ever played, but on my operating system (windows NT) I can't get it to run on full screen, only a 4x6 inch window. I've tried everything, even changing some .INI files but it still won't work! My dad is a programmer and he can't get it to work in full! when u make the window larger, the resolution goes higher, and it doesn't run on my comp cuz its only a 333MHz Pentium II. If you want a game that is easier to operate and start, stick with half life or counterstrike. Maybe the patch i downloaded was bugged or it didn't work right, I'm not sure. The AI is excellent and the internet play rocks. hopefully i will get it to run :) -good luck :)
Rating: Summary: When they pry my cold dead hands away from the mouse... Review: Having played everything from PONG to BALDUR'S GATE and owned everything from Atari 2600 to VIC20 to Commodore 64 to Amiga to Playstation to PC I know a great achievement in gaming when I see it. Unreal Tournament is quite an accomplishment for no other reason than stealing the thunder from Quake 3 Arena. It betters QUAKE in everything but graphics. It's a pretty close call in visuals too! Play it offline by yourself or go online and gun down a few strangers, either way it's one heck of a good time. First person shooter (fps) is the name given to 3D games in which you are looking thru the player eyes. You see your weapon (and a big variety here) and the game world in front of you (and an amazing variety of levels here too). UT takes a cue from multiplayer-type games and brings human-like intelligence into your computer. The computer players act like real people so you don't even have to own a modem to enjoy the multiplayer experience. However, many fans of UT swear by it's multiplayer element, which I must say, is the best in the business. On or offline we're talking about a game that has claimed 2 of my mice (er, mouses...er, mices...oh bugger!). Be sure to check the internet for fan sites full of downloadables. New levels, skins, etc. There are several official addons from the developers that are freely downloadable! These add new levels including some that were available only on the beta versions. UT is a game you will return to again and again. Many of the levels I have played so much I know every nook and cranny! At the price being asked here you have no reason not to check out this masterpiece of gaming! Hope to see you in my gunsights (virtual gunsights that is).
Rating: Summary: Horrible game! Review: I don't know what everyone else sees in this game and why they consider it so addicting and cool, it, like Quake 3 is just mindless shooting only leaving you angry. Everyone in the UT community rocket jumps, a cheap way of getting a quick kill, and very annoying at the same time. This game is plagued with rocket jumping! There are alot of things I hate about this game, too many to list here anyway.
Rating: Summary: Superb Design, Flawless Gameplay - An Instant Classic Review: This is, simply put, a miraculous feat of game design. No other game is nearly as immersive, nor realistic, as this. No other game has nearly as many gameplay options, is as customizable, or even as damn fun as this one. Except for maybe Counter-Strike. It's a tough call really, but this game wins hands down over all others in its genre in graphics and sound alone. First of all, the weapons and player models. There are 10 weapons (if I remember correctly), each very unique and each with a secondary function, so in effect you have 20 weapons, plus a teleporter that lets you jump anywhere you can shoot the thing. They are furistically real, and the explosions and blasts that come out of them look beautiful on a good system. The minigun, one of my favorites, has tracer bullets, a very subtle yet very excellent addition to this game. It adds to the realism. The very, very fun "Redeemer," a miniature nuke, is a very well done weapon that lets you fly a missile around the map and blast opponents in a terrific shockwave of carnage. The "missile cam" is my personal favorite way to guide it. Player models are exquisite. You have the ability to taunt your opponents with phrases or body motions, and movement is smooth and--for the most part--realistic as well. You can customize your player "skin" by color or by type, and these range from the usual soldier to funny, two-legged aliens. The maps are another thing. There are a lot of them, and the packaged map editor lets you make new ones in a snap. Lighting and ambient sounds pull you into the action. The various types of gameplay, including deathmatch, capture the flag, domination (where you have to control certain locations to gain points for your team), and assault (take a critical point by assaulting a base in a certain amount of time) expand the potential of this game, so that if you get tired of mindless killing, you can join a CTF game for a more intellectual game. In short, the graphics, unique weapons and maps, sound, and customization make this the must have game for all gamers.
Rating: Summary: incredible Review: this game is well worth the price. You can edit levels and make your own. If you are smart enough you can make your own character i do... It has great gameplay with good controls and graphics (if you have a good graphic card). It is fast paced in your face action. I play it everynight and it is very addictive and sinfully addictive. Get this game you will enjoy it very much and most definitly enjoy the online gaming it's even better
Rating: Summary: Absolutely the most action packed 1st person shooter Review: I was first introduced to this game, and the shooter genre, in a computer lab I worked at in college. It was only the demo version and all the computers had to run the graphics in software mode, but with about 10 of us in a game we had a blast! Since then I've "matured" into a well seasoned 3l33t killer that roXXors. (ehh... picked that up on the UT public servers :-) I've learned to love the "open" nature of this game and all the excellent mods/maps that have resulted from this. We have a daily game at work over lunch where we've recently been playing the Weapons Factory mod for UT. The single player game no longer holds my attention, although it was pretty fun when I was learning the game. But the true spirit of Unreal Tournament, and where the most fun is to be had, is in multi-player mode! Knowing there's a real person on the recieving end of the frag makes it all the more worthwhile. :-)
Rating: Summary: Outstanding game! Review: This is a game that is very addictive. The graphics and gameplay are outstanding. The levels are more than enough to keep you occupied for months. If you like crazy shooter games, this is the top of the top. Simply amazing. This is more of a GO-NUTS and shoot anything that moves near you type game - it is very fast paced. You can't go wrong with this game. Trust me.
