Rating: Summary: nice at first Review: but gets old really quick.... nothing truly innovative about the game and there is no way that it can or should be classified as an rpg.... far too easy to beat... try a real rpg instead of this: BG I & II, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment
Rating: Summary: Daiblo 2-the best Review: This is a great game with good reply value, even though some do not find it. Ther is 5 ifferent characters, barbarian(run in and keep hitting untill everything is dead, drink some reds and you're fine again)Necromancer- send your skeletons and golems(who will become VERY powerful as you gain levels, and yes you do get experience for monsters your "pets"killed)to fight for you Paladin- run in and keep hitting everything in the name of good untill everything is dead(use less reds, but more healing, and such auras Amazon- stand next to the doorway and kill everything with ranged weapons like javelins and arrows, fall back to get some space between you and the monster if you have to Sorceresss-same as amazon, but use ranged spells instead, anduse some magic shields to protect yourself The game has countless monsters, and they are much more dangerous in big groups than alone. The game has different skills for each character, which help you to decide your character's path(ex- do you want your barbarian to be a sword master, thus forcing him to use 2 hand swords and giant swords or master of club-like weapons, which would force him to use double axes and maul) there is a countless number of magical items, unique items, item sets and rarte items. all of them have different things to ad to yuo, and you may try and get a certain collection(for example, in act 2 it is possible to get a set of items that aren't supposed to be a set, but they are all thorned, and as such cause damage to the enemy just by hitting you, and you can get fortune set, which would give you a fast way of getting rare, unique and magical items, etc) The game's map does change with different characters, which may get confusing, but it adds to the replay value. Waypoints are spaced apart, but if you can get to one, then the whole area between those 2 waypoints becomes sort of easier, since you have the ability to retreat to a town at any moment. Youd do have to quit the game to save, and it will leave you back in the city with all the monsters when you restart, but if those monsters didn't restart, you would ahve a lot more trouble getting experience. and it is just obvious to start in a safe zone.
Rating: Summary: Good, but still need some improvements... Review: As many people, I am a fan of Diablo, I played this game for months and for months, without being bored. When I heard of Diablo II, before it was released, I really thought this would be much better because I heard of the fact that you can go through different cities, that you would fight the Three Brothers (Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto). This was a great idea from Blizzard entertainement. Anyway, here is my opinion about this good game: Good points: 1. the variety of NPC is a very good idea, and their differences (except for the spells, which I am gonna talk about later) are very well chosen, just like in the first Diablo. 2. the idea of having different towns was essential: when I used to play to Diablo I, I always thought that it would be much better if I could discover more places than just Tristram. 3. the story is fantastic, and the intervention of some characters in the story was really exciting (I don't need to say the names, you will discover them in the game). Sometimes, when you interact with the people in the villages, you really think you are with them :). 4. the cinematic are beautiful: they are long and the graphism are incredible; this is an important point in this game. I can give much more good points but these ae the most important... Bad points: 1. the graphism: when I began to play Diablo II for the first time, frankly the first thing I noticed was that the graphism weren't that good; sometimes i even think that in the classic Diablo they were better. In fact it is the graphism of the context that aren't good; the NPCs are very well drawn, but the places you explore are not well drawn (the same for the monsters, I think they could have been better). 2. the spells: in Diablo II, each character has his own spells; this is a good idea; however, the variety of the spells is not wide enough for each character: the barbarian has almost all his spells based on strenght, and nothing based on fire or lightning or something like that (approximately the same for the paladin). What you finally do is using only the 4 or 5 most interesting spells over the 20 or 25 you have. 3. the fights: this is a very important point : when you play the classic Diablo, you feel a real tension, stress and suspense (for an exemple against the Butcher, or against Lazarus; I was sometimes almost scared ^_^). This is what misses in Diablo II; I don't know why this happens, maybe the creatures are not as scary as in the first Diablo, maybe it is the context which isn't dark enough. The game is also not hard enough. My conclusion is that this game is really good, it is one of the best in Role Playing Games, and I highly recommend it because you will have a very good time; but Blizzard did not meet his goal in creating a better game than the first version: Diablo is better than Diablo II.
Rating: Summary: Plenty of flaws.. but a whole lot of fun. Review: I think it's quite customary for people to critize a game, once it is massively successful. There will always be that 15% who will dedicate their life to critizing and hating it. It's human nature, and this is because everyone want's to sound like an 'expert'. Those who hate DiabloII just hate it to sound like a critic. After all who would know better than an expert, right? Diablo2 is Diablo 1, just 3 times bigger. The graphics are average however. Now the reason why the graphics are not much of an improvement, is due to the fact that this game was started 2-3 years ago! Now it's a HUGE game, and the second and third acts are actually gorgeous. The last Act is breath taking in grpahics aswell. The first act is a bit dissapointing, however is it fun? The answer is a simple yes. How much fun? The answer is, more addictive than crack. The RPG elements are alright, the customization is excellent. The prime fun is the action. It's addictive and having fun is the main objective. That's what you have.. fun. This game is not for you, if you are more into the strategic RPGS, like Baldur's Gate. But if you want a game, which gives you a lot of action based fun, this master-piece is for you. The only lows besides the graphics, are that after 7 hours of addictive playin, you realize that all you are doing is clicking. But, my word it's a lot of fun. ...
Rating: Summary: A Worthy Sequel Review: I have owned Diablo II for a while now, and I must say it is definitely a worthy follow-up to Diablo (which was a classic, in my opinion). What makes Diablo so fun and addicting is the myriad of items you can get, which is basically limitless since the computer generates them on the fly. You can never have "all the best items", it seems you always have a chance at finding a new, exciting item, even when you are very high level. The game also generates all of the levels on the fly (just like the orginial), so it is never exactly the same. This gives it excellent replay value! Also, the skill trees were a neat addition in this game, giving you many ways to develop each character class. The one caveat I would place on this title is that you need a very powerful system to run it smoothly. My old Pentium II 300 with 64 MB of RAM choked pretty bad on this game, but my new Athalon 800 with 256 MB of RAM runs it seamlessly, even with MP3s playing in the background.
Rating: Summary: Better than some even realize Review: I would like to dispel some apparent "myths" thathave caused some reviews to be less than 4 or 5 stars. First let mesay that this is the addicting action/role playing game you've beenwaiting to play, if you're not already playing it. For more specificinfo on character types, gameplay, graphics, etc. than I provide here, many other reviews have that info so I won't repeat it here. Now forthe myths: Graphics: Despite Amazon's and other reviews, thegraphics are indeed superior. Run Diablo & Diablo 2 back-to-backif you don't believe me. 3d Effects, perpective improvements, andartwork are far better. Yes the resolution and # of colors are thesame, but they are used FAR more effectively. The overall view is alsozoomed-in compared to the original. 3D-accelerated special effects canbe quite impressive. Sound/Music: No myths here. Sound is superband includes 3D sound support. I personally enjoyed the music of thefirst Diablo more, but that's just a matter of personal taste sinceDiablo 2's compositions are certainly well-done. Save-Game Feature:I have seen alleged professional reviews about how this is a terriblefeature. Those reviewers believe you must exit the game to save. Ifyou read the beginning of the manual...you will quickly understandthat the game saves AUTOMATICALLY. You don't have to worry aboutlosing a ton of experience because you forgot to save your game and anhour later died fighting the next tough demon. This feature is thesame in single and multi. If you wish to exit the game, your game isimmediately saved rather than depend on the auto-save. Multiplayer:There were some Battle.Net problems at first due to the incrediblepopularity world-wide when Diablo 2 was released. However, the serversare working quite well now. I have very little lag with 56k modem evenwith 3-4 people on the screen at once. There are times servers willgo done for a short time for maintaince (1-4hours). Latency is higherduring peak usage, but barring any technical problems or maintenaince, gameplay should be pretty good. Aside from that, the controls built-into the closed-battle.net characters should make for a relativelycheat-free and co-op rich experience...
Rating: Summary: No new terrain...just great entertainment... Review: While this doesn't introduce anything groundbreaking over the first Diablo, it does continue in the same entertaining path. The one drawback is that you have no in game save feature. Truly a bummer! The storyline is entertaining. The cinematic cut scenes are what we've come to expect from Blizzard. Overall, the game is a sequel to the original in storyline. It would have been better if Blizzard had been able to incorporate some new technology into the game engine or into the graphics. But, those drawbacks aside, if you enjoyed Diablo, you'll enjoy this one. If you have never seen, or played the first one, do not feel bad. You will not be completely lost in the storyline and the game play doesn't rely on any previous experience.
Rating: Summary: I'm not so sure... Review: I'll start by saying this: yes, "Diablo II" is a good game, but no, it simply isn't where it should be: considering the huge hype and all that. The gameplay is still the same. You choose your character from five different classes, and than wear out two or three mouses as you battle your way to the Lord of Terror himself, Diablo. The most significant difference is the new character skills. You now how the ability to choose from a set of skills as you gain in level, and thus customizing your character to fit your style of play. The game levels have moved above ground, so that you can explore wilderness areas (but also dungeons). There's a weather effect which allows for rain and lightening. And there's different NPCs you can interact with and even hire to aid you. But other than this, the game is exactly the same. The graphics is the biggest let-down of the game. They're horribly outdated. The cinematic sequences, however, are the best I've seen. So if you don't mind going over the first game in a bigger scale, you'll probably be able to extract some excitement from the game.
Rating: Summary: Good for a while Review: I bought this game thinking it would be outstanding. Boy was I sorry. Dioblo 2 is way to much like the first one. And the most bothersome problem for me is that it got boring really quick and there are virtually no replay values. Actally no replay values, I conquered the game and now it is sitting on the shelf collecting dust. If you want to spend money go somewere else.
Rating: Summary: Great game- Even the fifth time through Review: Diablo 2, is a game like few others. All though it is not a 3d game in a world of 3d, it is a game that ranks along with the greats of gaming: Doom, Half-Life, and Starcraft to name a few. Diablo 2 is essentially a click-attack game, but as you progress you realize their is strategy to the click-attack, and you gain amazing attacks as you progress in level. The game features five distinct classes, with their own style of play and three difficulty levels. The difficulty levels surpass most games, in that instead of just making more or tougher enemies, you also gain access to a new arsenal of amazing items. The story is engaging, and the quests are fun. There were not too many times where I was hoping to finish a quest from boredom. I have now beaten the game 5 times on three different characters, and still work at improving my current one. It is a great game overall, with the biggest cons being that the NPC mercenaries becoming useless in later difficulty levels, the hassels of picking up your corpse after you die, and of course the many hours of your life this game will absorb.
