Rating: Summary: FYI Review: It sound like a good game, but do not purchase. Your system will freeze after the first time you die; it will take forever to load; and you will not be able to get help. Counter Stike still is the best game for the buck, but try this one if your feeling bored and need to pull out your hair.
Rating: Summary: It doesn't live up to its promises Review: You can read any other review of the game to get the basics of the gameplay. I am going to focus on why I think it doesn't deserve more than 2 stars. Although I enjoy some elements of it, the game itself is really an exercise in futility. Most of the important (and advertised) elements of the game are not implemented, and seeing as the developers spent the last 2 months fixing bugs rather than adding much, they won't be there for a while either. The same bugs are still there, although maybe with somewhat less frequency. They are making progress, but it is oh so slow. The "realism" of the game is killed by the fact that armor is overrepresented, and infantry is is made incredibly hard to play with. Effectively, infantry becomes a flag capturing mechanism. Even die-hard infantry players are turning to armor to get something close to an enjoyable experience, rather than get cut down by tank MG fire they never even saw. And that is really the essence of the problem. CRS want to recreate WWII, but at the same time want to allow players to play whatever they want. Unfortunately a tank is worth about 20 infantry, and you can not spawn in control of more than 1 infantryman. So everyone spawns as tanks. Once the much awaited supply system is introduced, most tanks that can always be spawned will be worth only 15-20 infantrymen. But they will still be invulnerable to all but other tanks and the virtually useless AT guns. So what about the teamwork? Teamwork is essential for this game to be even remotely interesting. Unfortunately it doesn't exist. It is made impossible by 1. 80% of the players don't REALLY have the patience required to play with a team, especially given the harsh requirements of waiting for transport/other players, keeping together etc. It can take 3-4 hours to mount any sort of an operation, even with days of planning. Jump in and play? No. 2. There is no infrastructure in the game to support teamwork, making communication and coordination virtually impossible 3. The frequent crashes makes it almost impossible to keep even a force of 3-4 men together, much less a platoon. 4. The different units are so vastly different in their usefulness/effectiveness, that playing infantry becomes a chore or duty. Add to this the fact that there are many annoying, artificial constraints. For instance, a "realistic" map missing townnames, zoom-in/out, units displayed on it, and who holds what ground. Or the infamous night-time, where most players simply log off the present server and find another one. Who wants to buy black screens to cover their windows, turn off all lamps and shut all doors to the outside world just to be able to see what is going on in the game? It is impossible to find keys on the keyboard under these lighting conditions, of course, making it harder to do things like communicate or duck when you see the enemy. What happens when there is only one gameworld, and you can not log onto a different server? Dinner time? This is what I consider the bottom line: I feel there is the potential of running a Steel Panthers/West Front/Operational Art of War campaign, with REAL people commanding the units instead of you/the AI micromanaging orders. The problem is that 60% of your force is L337 S/\/1P4's with their associated MTV-generation attention span. They are not seasoned Wehrmacht troops or sturdy British career soldiers with their professional, life-long trained officer corps. And that is where things go wrong. You are left wanting what the game promises but can never really deliver. Because the bottom line is that although it is neat to have the option of working with others, the more people you depend on the less likely it is that you will actually find more than 2 hours of frantic administration and inevitable disintegration of your force. Even belonging to a 3 yr old squad of above-21 only/mostly ex-servicemen, we can really only get organized at MOST once a week, and then still only 10-15 people. It is an infantry unit, but invariably the majority will play as tanks. If you enjoy playing a Tank Quake game, you may enjoy this, even now. If you get the game working. If you, like me, dream of the terror of dropping a battalion of paratroops behind enemy lines for harassment and securing bridges/supply points, or combined arms operations, or infantry battles in the cities: look elsewhere. It will be years before the game reaches anything close to an enjoyable war experience, if it ever will. All I can hope is that other developers see the potential of the genre and are able to create something better.
Rating: Summary: Okay game I guess........... Review: You know, i bought this game because i heard both good and bad reviews. You can say i was curious about the game. So, one night, i went to Best Buy and bought this game, knowing that i didn't have a good graphic and it said it needed decent one. When i installed it and runned the program, it took at least 5 minutes to get to the main menu. Then it took another 5 minutes to get in the game. However, the gameplay was alright. I mean the maps are huge. There at least 900 people on a server but doesn't laggy. Even though there was 900 people on the server, i couldn't find the enemy because the bases are pretty far apart. Also, when you drive in any vechiles, you can't get out of them. Plus, when you ran out of ammo, you have to respawn, which takes a long time. In my opinion, i think you should wait on this game when new patches come out in the near future which make it more fun because i think the game needs more improvement. Also, why do i have to pay $... a month for playing online. i think they shouldn't do that.................
Rating: Summary: Big Beta Test Review: I bought this game a week after it was released and have been playing it ever since. I love it, and yet I can't recommend it! Very few of the "real War" features have been implimented so far. Crashes abound, and the game is basically in a beta test mode. Still... If you're into the subject and like team oriented action, there's a lot of GREAT FUN here! When it's working, the action is gritty and intense. Just bring a halftrack full of patience! Bottom line: This WILL be a GREAT GAME. Someday. System Notes: Myself and many others play on 56k dial-up. A good connection is important (I like at least 49k), but RAM is the key to FPS in this game. You'll NEED a full 512Mb as this game is a BIG memory hog!
Rating: Summary: the best game Review: I have never played a game so good. all you need is a lot of mb.i spent 19 days in a row playing this game i played it day and night it is a really good game
Rating: Summary: The most addictive game I've ever played! Review: I have been playing internet games games since they became popular in the mid-90's. I have never been this involved in a game. Yes, the game does have a few techinical issues at this point. It's a RAM hog, it has choppy framerates sometimes. But IT IS FUN. Once you get your computer set up for this game and all patches downloaded you will find your life wasting away in this virtual world. This game is not for the Quake-kid. There is waiting, there is suspense and when the fighting begins it is great. The variety of vehicles and roles you can play is limitless. The game will only continue to grow and evolve. Plus, the people you meet on the battlefield are great. I can't say enough.
Rating: Summary: DON'T BUY YET Review: This game has great potential, but has enormous problems: The 'minimum requirements' for use are frankly wrong - you will not be able to play this game without AT LEAST the recommended 'specs'. There are frequent crashes for a lot of users, even with high-end hardware. Most features mentioned in advertising and even on the game box itself are missing. The game is basically unfinished. Patches have been promised by the developers to add SOME of the features like rank (and the weapons listed in the manual), but they are slow to materialize. This game will be good if it survives 6 months, but don't buy it yet unless you really understand what you'll be in for.
Rating: Summary: The WW2 Game Review: This is the best game I have ever played of WW2 it is so real and you get the feeling of how WW2 was. It sometimes is scary because you are afride that when you are walking in night time that there is a Nazi looking at you getting ready to fire at you.
Rating: Summary: This game will only get better Review: I love this game and im addicted to it. What other game can you fly a spit swoop down on a panzer III or carry infantry to a near by town for an attack, or be a german sniper taking out allied troops one by one while you sit in a church tower and its all controlled by humans. Thats right no trick plays no doing the same move over and over and cheating the computer. Thats right folks you against me mono y mono. If you can swallow the big 65mb pacth at the begining of the game then your pretty much can put up with the small defects like ...... bad frame rate, or an ocasional bug or two. But they are working on it. The game is so competitive between the players. If by chance you are invited to a squad it makes the game more strategy wise. You can talk to other teamates online, web pages, bullitin boards etc. This game will get better with time there will be so many more units to choose from in the futureSo lets recapp good all around fun ok!!!!!! Some of the units you can be right now: planes:spit, hawk75,bf109,junkers inf: british smg, rifile, french smg, rifile, german smg, rifile Tanks: panzerIII, Mark 75, Char, and 2 other light tanks i cant think of. You can choose from a variety of weapons. The game also changes into day, night, morning, sun set, sun rise. Well all i have to is this is a good game the controls are not hard GET A JOYSTICK if you dont have one hehehe i have 2 myself a game pad for the tank and a force feedback2 for flying but thats me. Well thats it i guess get the game its only going to get better. Im sure youll be excited just as i am. Peace out!!
Rating: Summary: A Diamond in the rough Review: I've been following the progress of this game since early February and to see it be released is a great joy for me. The game ultimately is fun. From being a tanker, a trooper, a pilot -- viewing the accurately modeled country side, knowing that the road your walking on or the town your fighting in really does exist across the sea's is a high all it's own. Like any game on the shelves right now, it's not without it's fair share of problems either. Some players are reporting Crash's to Desktop, other are reporting Connection to host lost problems -- in the end though, with performance patches and feature updates this game will grow from my four star to easily an 8 star. The Naval portion hasn't been released yet -- but is expected to be released soon enough. Overall. A great game with even better potential. A definate buy.
